SMALL DUCT HIGH VELOCITY COMFORT SYSTEM N e w C o n s t r u c t i o n R E N O V A t i o N S C u s t o m H o m e s The attractive, effective solution for keeping your home comfortable...

Comfort depends on much more than just temperature Air circulation is the critical component in indoor comfort. Even the most efficient, high performance air conditioner or furnace can t make you comfortable unless the conditioned air is effectively circulated throughout the entire structure. Our SDHV system consists of an energy efficient air handler that s coupled with your home s central air conditioner and furnace or heat pump, delivering the cool or warmed air through very small ducts with outlets that can be located in the walls, ceilings and floors. The result is an HVAC installation that maintains the integrity of your home s architecture and interior design. That means... No more unsightly registers or radiators No dropped ceilings, soffits, or other add-ons to accommodate ductwork No more cold spots or temperature stratification No more annoying whistling air in the ducts IDEAL FOR CUSTOM HOMES The vision you ve developed with your architect or builder is enhanced by the SDHV system. There are no design compromises because of sheet metal ductwork restrictions. The flexible ducts fit easily behind walls and ceilings, with outlets positioned where they re needed to deliver comfort--especially important in today s open floor plans. These small openings can be trimmed to match virtually any decor--choose from wood finishes, metal finishes, pre-painted or unfinished outlets that can be stained or painted to match your own finishes. installer can decide where to place outlets for the best coverage: depending on which size ducts are selected, you ll have six to eight outlets per nominal ton of cooling. PERFECT FOR FOR RENOVATIONS AND RETROFITS Renovating your home can create expensive problems involving the HVAC system. Removing a wall may eliminate a run of ductwork, and this can be especially difficult to remedy if the ducting was going to a second story. The space you gain by enclosing a porch or adding on may be difficult to heat and cool. Maybe you just want to replace your existing heating/cooling system with something more efficient and effective, but don t want the mess and bother of tearing out ceilings and walls to redo the ducting. Whatever your situation, the SDHV system makes it easy to get conditioned air where you need it. The flexible tubing can be snaked down walls, behind ceilings and around corners, and there s no dust and no mess in living areas your installer will simply drill small holes for the outlets. LABOR-SAVING FOR NEW CONSTRUCTION SDHV systems are easy to install and save the time and expense of having metal ductwork fabricated. Our small ducts are just 2 or 2 1/2 interior diameter about 1/3 the size of sheet metal ducts. And they fit easily into even tight or unusual spaces.you and your O u r s m a l l d u c t s a r e j u s t 2 o r 2 1 / 2 i n t e r i o r d i a m e t e r a b o u t o n e - t h i r d t h e s i z e o f o u t l e t s o n s h e e t m e ta l d u c t s.

The flexible ducts fit easily behind walls ANd ceilings, with outlets positioned where they re needed to deliver comfort especially important in today s open floor plans. PROBLEM SOLVER FOR HISTORIC PROPERTIES If you own an historic home, maintaining the aestics of your unique structure is important, yet it s likely the heating system isn t effective and central air conditioning is non-existent. It may be impossible or prohibitively expensive to install conventional ducting, yet window units are noisy and create a security issue. Ductless mini-splits work well, but they re designed for room-by-room use, not for the entire home. An SDHV system is the answer to this dilemma the flexible mini-size ducts can be installed behind existing walls and ceilings without damaging the finishes, and the tiny outlets virtually disappear to preserve the allimportant appearance of period rooms. Advantages of Small Duct High Velocity Ultra-quiet operation Easy, mess-free installation Heating and cooling compatible High degree of comfort Maintains the integrity and appearance of a home s architecture and decor

How It Works Our SDHV system maintains draftfree, even temperatures throughout a room through a process called aspiration, which utilizes small jets of air that actively mix the air. When the conditioned air enters the room, it creates a gentle suction around itself, pulling the existing air into airstream. You ll experience even temperatures from floor to ceiling, unlike conventional systems which typically dump air into a room from one register, resulting in uncomfortable cold and/or hot spots. With SDHV systems, not only is the entire house cooled and warmed evenly, but within a given room the temperature will vary by no more than 2oF from floor to ceiling (with a conventional system, hot air rises and heavier cool air drops, resulting in temperature statification). Aspiration also eliminates the need for a cold air return in every room just one return per air handler is required. This illustration shows an attic installation with ceiling outlets, as well as floor outlets from the basement. DEHUMIDIFICATION Humidity is a critical factor in overall comfort because it affects the body s natural ability to regulate temperature. The SDHV system removes about 30% more relative humidity than a conventional system; at steady state conditions, this amounts to a 10% reduction in relative humidity in the room. The cooling coils are twice as thick as traditional coils, so hot air stays on the coils longer, effectively lowering the humidity. This can also help lower utility bills: the A/C thermostat can be turned up a degree or two because most people are comfortable at a higher temperature if the relative humidity is low. SDHV Air Handler conventional system Available in 2 to 5 ton cooling capacity Designed for horizontal installation Can be installed in basement, attic, closet or crawl space; cabinet is sized to fit through standard attic openings for convenience Insulated and designed to isolate noise and vibration for quiet delivery of airflow Cabinet is painted for durability and attractive appearance SDHV system

System components designed for efficiency, quiet operation The SDHV system consists of evaporator coil with high capacity fan, one or more trunk plenums, small diameter supply ducts and diffuser outlets. These are matched to existing or new air conditioning condensers or heat pumps. Outlets/Diffusers Choose from 5 diameter round or 8 x 1/2 slotted Available in a variety of woods, metal and plastic, prefinished or ready for stain or paint Special sloped outlets fit angled ceilings Supply ducts Lined with inner layer of sounddampening spun-bond nylon with helical wire, then covered with insulation Available in 2 and 2 1 /2 interior diameter; 2 1 /2 tubing can deliver up to 45 CFM at the same sound level as the 2 tubing; 2 tubing delivers maximum 40 CFM Insulation choices: R3.3, R4.2, R6.0 with single insulation, R8.0 with double insulation 1 /3 the size of conventional metal ducting Recommended distribution: 7-8 outlets per nominal cooling ton for 2 ID tubing 6 outlets per nominal ton for 2 1 /2 tubing 2 and 2 1 /2 sized ducts can be mixed on same plenum Energy Savings Insulated tubing is energy efficient. With sheet metal ductwork, there s heat gain the in the summer and heat loss in cold weather as the conditioned air travels through the duct system. Heat loss and gain is minimal with SDHV tubing, helping to lower utility bills. Supply plenum is aluminum in 7 or 9 diameter Ducts are flexible enough to be routed through existing wall, floor and ceiling cavities Creates high velocity stream of air that s delivered quietly and uniformly AHRI matched with Century RSG central air conditioning condensers and HRG heat pumps; can also be used with our line of residential geothermal heat pumps For commercial installations, optional coils can be ordered for chilled water or hot water systems CAN be used with A/C CONdeNsers, Air-to-Air HEAT PumPS, GeotHermAL HEAT PumPS

Advanced Controls Our System Interface Board (SIB) keeps the air handler operating at peak efficiency in all seasons. This state-ofthe-art fan control system is built with a DX coil compatible with air conditioning systems and heat pumps (including geothermal, chilled water and hot water systems). In fact, the coil can actually deliver higher heating temperatures with the same energy usage as conventional air handlers. Contributing to the unit s quiet operation are soft start or gradual ramp up to operating speed, which eliminates sudden drafts, cold blow and noise. SIB controls are ready for such add-ons as electronic and UV light air cleaners; there s also a separate relay for a humidifier and the board is smart enough to turn off the humidifier when the air conditioner is running. Additionally, when the unit is OFF for long periods, the fan is energized to help prevent moisture condensation inside the ducts. High quality electronic parts include an LED display that shows the current operating status and signals when the unit is not functioning properly. All SIBs are fully tested before shipment to assure full operational dependability. Small duct high velocity air handling systems are ideal for... Log homes Open floor plans and lofts Historic and architecturally significant homes Commerical installations Custom homes new or retrofitted and other new construction, renovations and additions
