Take an SU Online Class this Summer! See next page for online class listings The ultimate in flexibility, online classes require no commuting. Note: Prior to registration, matriculated students should consult with their academic advisor to ensure that online courses are appropriate to their individual circumstances. Qs & As about Online Study What is an online class? An online class is a credit class that is completed over the Internet. It can be used to fulfill requirements for degree programs at SU or other colleges. Who can take online classes? Online classes are open to full- and part-time students, both matriculated and nonmatriculated, unless a specific restriction is stated in the class description. How much does an online class cost? Tuition for online classes is the same as for regular classes. Tentative summer tuition rates are listed on page 95. How difficult are online classes? Online classes are not easy replacements for on-campus credit classes. These structured classes involve a dialogue between students and instructor and discussion among class members, as well as assignments similar to those typically required in regular classes. The academic standards are no less rigorous, and discipline is required to complete class assignments on time. While online classes are convenient, students should expect to spend as much time on an online class as they do for a regular class (including time spent in the classroom and time spent doing outside homework). What do I need to know to take an online class? Completing an online class requires familiarity with e-mail and web browsing. Students do not need to be computer experts, but basic computer skills are important. Students should be comfortable sending and receiving e-mail messages, navigating the web, and downloading, storing, and retrieving files. Technical information Discuss special technology requirements with your course instructor or the Help Desk (315-443-2677 or help@syr.edu) before enrolling in an online course.
