What is the International Foundation Programme? A levels are not the best option for all students. Many students know that they want to study a degree in a Business, Engineering, Science, Music or Humanities-related subject at university. The IFP enables them to study a range of subjects and topics of direct relevance to their proposed undergraduate studies. The IFP was created as an alternative to A levels to meet the needs of those students who desire a more specific pre-university experience. Students who perform well on the IFP are able to progress to a wide selection universities. Our International Foundation Programme is a one-year, full-time course preparing international students for direct entry into a number of British universities. Students can choose from our six subject pathways, each of which includes Core Skills and Pathway-specific modules: Pathways: Art and Graphics Business, Economics & Accounting Engineering Humanities Music Science and Health

Why Choose Abbey DLD? The Abbey DLD Group is a network of four independent colleges, uniquely placed to offer students from the United Kingdom and around the world a college tailored to meet their individual requirements. The colleges have a long-standing reputation for delivering a premium quality education. All of the colleges share a similar approach to education: to help all our students to achieve the very best academic results. This is done through rigorous but informal teaching, small class sizes, frequent testing and expert teachers who have the interests of each student at the centre of everything they do. 6 REASONS TO CHOOSE OUR COLLEGES - Are you aiming to attend one of the UK s top twenty universities? - Are you aiming to ultimately pursue a career in one of the professions? - Are you aiming to work for a blue chip company in the UK or overseas? - Do you want to prove to yourself and/or to others that you are capable of achieving the very highest grades? - Do you want to work in the more adult environment of a college compared with that of a school? - Do you want to work alongside students from across the world who share the same high aspirations as you? COMPARISON BETWEEN INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION PROGRAMMES ABBEY DLD GROUP OF COLLEGES IFP Small group sizes with high levels of personal attention. Teaching by staff with both academic and professional teaching qualifications. Specialism in delivering courses to international students using EFL methodologies. Integration of EFL methods across the curriculum. High level 1-2-1 support. Specialist IELTS preparation from experienced teachers. Integrated academic and pastoral support. Dedicated personal tutor always available for sameday appointment. Intimate, caring, nurturing College environment with own tutor. Abbey DLD IFP progression options to over 50 universities to date. UNIVERSITY-BASED FOUNDATION PROGRAMMES Larger groups with little attention given to each student. Teaching by staff with academic, though not necessarily professional teaching qualifications. Lack of specialised experience in teaching international students at pre-degree level. EFL teaching as an add on. Less personalized support. Generic EFL preparation. Less coherent approach to student progress and wellbeing. Personal tutor allocated but availability often poor. Going onto a campus of 5,000+ students with no / very limited pastoral care. You only progress to chosen Foundation University and progression NOT guaranteed so no / very limited fall back options

Why Study IFP in the UK? There are many good quality foundation programmes run by or affiliated to UK universities that are taught outside the UK. Whilst attending a foundation programme in your home country can sometimes reduce accommodation costs, there are many additional benefits for students who come to the UK to study this programme. A UK based foundation programme can give you: - A chance to improve your English. You will be speaking English in your daily life, not just in lessons. - A route to acceptance on a degree course. If you are based in the UK for your foundation programme you can easily visit the universities you prefer to help you make your decision. - University entrance criteria. - A supportive environment in which tutorial and pastoral care are important. When you start your degree course you will feel much more at home in the UK and therefore be able to concentrate better on your first year degree studies. - The chance to settle in the city or region where you intend to study. Which universities will accept IFP? Our past foundation students have received offers from many of the UK s acclaimed universities, including: Aberystwyth Anglia Ruskin Aston Bath Bath Spa Birmingham Birmingham City Bradford Brighton Bristol Brunel Buckingham Cass Business School Cardiff Chester City City of Westminster Coventry Durham Edinburgh Essex East London European Business School Greenwich School of Management Hertfordshire Hull Keele Kent King s College London Kingston Lancaster Leeds Leicester Loughborough Lincoln Liverpool Liverpool John Moores London Metropolitan London School of Commerce Manchester Manchester Metropolitan Middlesex Newcastle Nottingham Nottingham Trent Oxford Brookes Portsmouth Queen Mary Regent s Business School Roehampton Royal Holloway Salford Sheffield Hallam St Andrews SOAS London South Bank Southampton Sunderland Surrey Sussex Swansea Trinity Laban Conservatoire Warwick University College London University of Central Lancashire University of East Anglia University of Greenwich West London University Westminster University York

JOANNA KANENG PAM FROM NIGERIA PREVIOUS SCHOOL: Capital Science Academy PROGRAMME OF STUDY: International Foundation Programme GRADES: Overall IFP Score: 76% DESTINATION: ASTON UNIVERSITY - INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT Joanna has been one of the most consistent and hardworking students on the IFP this year. She has been a tremendously positive influence on her peers and was a vibrant member of the student council for her year group. She will be a very positive and dynamic member of the student population at her chosen University.

TAIR KAMILOV FROM KAZAKHSTAN PREVIOUS SCHOOL CATS Canterbury PROGRAMME OF STUDY: International Foundation Programme (Humanities Pathway) Overall Score: 77.7% DESTINATION: UNIVERSITY OF YORK - POLITICS AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS The education I had in Abbey College Manchester went far beyond the classroom and far beyond my expectations. Excellent teaching is provided as well as a lot of different enrichment activities which integrated me even more into the college community. The small size of classes made it easier for students to communicate with teachers for problem solving and help. Personal Tutors also helped us to solve life s daily problems. The college also gave us very useful advice when we applied for universities including advice on writing personal statements and interview practice.

RENHE WANG FROM CHINA PREVIOUS SCHOOL Ginhua Daxue High School PROGRAMME OF STUDY: International Foundation Programme (Engineering Pathway) Overall Score: 80.5% DESTINATION: UNIVERSITY OF WARWICK - CIVIL ENGINEERING The personal support I got from the college throughout my time there was amazing such as helping to get my visa, during classes and with my university application. Learning at the college was hard but fun and enjoyable. The teachers were happy to stay behind at the end of class to answer any questions or to see me during their free periods. The other students were really friendly and to have achieved the score I now have is the perfect ending to my time at the college. I can t wait to start the next step in my academic career.

MANDY PUI FROM MALAYSIA PREVIOUS SCHOOL SMK St Columba PROGRAMME OF STUDY International Foundation Programme Engineering Pathway DESTINATION: UNIVERSITY OF SHEFFIELD - MECHANICAL ENGINEERING Learning at the college was hard, but fun and very enjoyable. The teachers were always happy to help and happy to stay behind at the end of class to answer any questions or to see me during their free periods. I also met a lot of other wonderful students and I hope to keep in touch with them all. Outside academic classes there were lots of enrichment activities we could choose from. I selected the engineering club and had the chance to work alongside some other Abbey College students and an engineer from a local company. We did a real life project for the company over six months, which was a fantastic experience and was something that I was able to put into my university application.
