Foralongtimenow,theDangarIslandcommunityhashadinsufficientoptionsforthesafeandreliableberthingofsmall commutervessels.solutionshavebeeninvestigatedsince1979wheniananddeniseforrest,onbehalfofagroupof residents,wrotetohornsbyshirecouncil(hsc)abouttheuseoftinniesforcommuting.in1995anotherattemptwas undertaken,thistimethroughthedangarislandleague(dil)whenterrydorroughwaspresident.neitherattemptto raisefundingfromthehornsbyshirecouncilwassuccessful. Inlate2009,islandresidentsagainapproachedtheLeaguetoseeifaviablecommutertinnieberthingfacilitysimilarto thebrooklynmooringco,op(bmc)couldbeestablishedondangarisland.sincethen,thedilsub,committeehasbeen workingtoexaminealltheoptionsandtheirimpactsontheisland.thisgrouphasregularlyaddressedthecommunity throughmulletmailarticles,manypublicmeetings,newslettermailings,andemailsaswellastheleague swebsite. Asaresultofthiswork,theDangarIslandMooringCo,operativeCommittee(DIMC)nowhasafully,developedproposal forasmall,vesselmooringfacilitysituatedoffthepublicwharf. Theyallhaveverysignificantproblemsassociatedwiththem,andthebestlocationisthepublicwharf.AttheJuly2011 publicmeetingresidentsagreedthepublicwharflocationwasthebest.theotherswererejectedforanumberof reasons,includingthattheaccessistoosteep,thereisnobuggyaccess,nohandicappedaccess,greaterlocal disturbance,somesitesareonfarsideofislandfromusers,environmentalrestrictionsandimpacts,significantly increasedcostsandworseweatherexposure,amongothers. Itshouldbenotedthatforover150years,whenaccesstotheislandhasbeenexamined,thisareaofthenorthshore hasalwaysbeenselectedasthebestfromanumberofperspectives,especiallyweather. A.Privatejettiesarebuilttolowerstandards.Afacilitywithmoreusersneedstobetoahigherstandardtoensurethe boats,peopleandthestructureitselfaresuitablyprotected,safeandsturdy.inaddition,thisdesignprovidesa componentofwaveattenuation,whichwillminimisetheriskofweatherdamagetothefacilityorthetinnies. Afacilitythatisnotdesignedproperlywillnotbeinsurableforliability,anditispossibleyourprivateboatinsurancewill beinvalidatedifitistieduptoafacilitythatisinadequatelydesigned. 10.
