VCBH Alcohol & Drug Programs Youth...provides a broad range of services for alcohol and drug-related problems which include prevention services, assessment, treatment, crisis intervention and referral services to youth and families. Our programs are county-wide, with clinics located in Oxnard, Ventura, Simi Valley and Fillmore. consist of school programs, specialty court programs, and clinics serving the general community. The school based programs are at Pacific High School, Frontier High School, and the Gateway Recovery Classroom. Referrals to our programs come through families, school counselors, teachers, community-based organizations, mental health providers, and probation. Prevention...works to prevent alcohol and other drug-related community problems using environmental and community change approaches. Programs help youth through support, referral services and outreach programs. Our initiatives are underage and binge drinking, impaired driving and other drugs of abuse. We contract with the Ventura County Office of Education Friday Night Live youth program, and Straight Up youth development project. prevention Drinking was the cool thing to do. I wanted to fit in and have fun. Getting help is not just about being clean and sober. For the first time I have hope that I can achieve anything. outpatient Treatment provided at our clinics in Oxnard, Ventura, Simi Valley and Fillmore Standard program for youth 12 17 years of age; Transitional-age youth program 18 21 years of age 3 9 month program Ten or less in a group Two groups per week; 1-½ hour sessions Confidential treatment services Individual and group counseling Family counseling Drug Medi-Cal reimbursed Curriculum Youth programs use an evidence-based treatment curriculum. This is not a 12-step based program, but rather an intensive outpatient model for youth with alcohol and other drug-related problems. Our evidence-based treatment curriculum is a research and scientifically based curriculum for working with adolescents. Our curriculum consists of individual, group and family sessions, and parent and youth substance use education groups. The primary goal of the curriculum is to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by alcohol and other drug use through treatment and education, treatment with an emphasis on relapse prevention.

I felt so ashamed; I never knew it was so easy for kids to get alcohol and drugs from parents. Family counseling is our first step on the road to healing. Specialty Court: Recovery classroom Since 2008 the Ventura County Behavioral Health, Ventura County Probation Agency, and Ventura County Office of Education have collaborated to start the Gateway High School s Recovery Classroom program. The Recovery Classroom is an intensive outpatient alcohol and drug treatment program within a public school setting. The goal is to increase sobriety, school attendance, and academic performance. The program serves teens involved in the juvenile justice system for alcohol and drugrelated problems. Goals School attendance must remain above 90% with at least a C grade point average and be working toward school credits, graduation, diploma, or equivalent 90 days sober to graduate, with no violations of probation Involvement in community activities, education or employment Upon completion, the Recovery Classroom team will review for possible termination from probation Individual and group counseling Family counseling Court reviews one time per month Staff Our highly trained multi-disciplinary team of professionals is comprised of State Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors, Marriage/Family Therapists, Special Education Teachers, Probation Officers, and Nurse Practitioners. Our clinical staffing is physician directed by our team Psychiatrists. reclaiming futures Ventura County Juvenile Drug Court This is a collaborative partnership between the Ventura County Behavioral Health Department, Ventura Superior Court, and the Ventura County Probation Agency. The mission of the Juvenile Drug Court is to help youth to break the pattern of alcohol or drug abuse and the negative behaviors associated with it. The Juvenile Drug Court program is for minors whose primary reason for involvement in the criminal justice system is substance abuse, are non-violent offenders and show motivation toward dealing with their substance abuse problems. Participants are under the jurisdiction of the juvenile court and receive close probation supervision and intensive substance abuse treatment. The Juvenile Drug Court program is a three-phase program, typically 12-18 months. The length of time is determined by the youth s performance, including attendance at treatment, court appearances, school performance, and regular contact with the probation officer, and sobriety maintenance. In our community In collaboration with law enforcement, educators, parents and community groups, we are taking steps to make our path for our youth a safe one and help to sustain healthy communities in Ventura County. A snapshot of our efforts: Initiated the passing of Social Host Ordinances in all of the cities and unincorporated areas of Ventura County to combat underage drinking. Social Host Ordinance s target the location in which underage drinking takes place. Private homes are the settings most frequently identified as the place of last drink among young DUI offenders in Ventura County. These laws hold individuals responsible for underage drinking events. Host Reality Parties through Straight Up Reality Improv, to teach parents about underage drinking parties. Straight Up youth want parents to face the current realities and learn how adults can help to change these dangerous social norms in Ventura County. Give educational presentations in local schools to educate teachers and parents about the dangers of alcohol and drug use. Provide cities with Alcoholic Energy Drinks warning signs in retail establishments. Partner with law enforcement targeting DUI prevention efforts. Talk to parents and youth about prescription and over-the-counter drug abuse and help to establish safe disposal bins in local police stations.
