I never thought my kid would be using drugs. He is a good student and a high school athlete. Who knew that he got drugs from my medicine cabinet? I felt so ashamed; I never knew it was so easy for kids to get alcohol and drugs from parents. Family counseling is our first step on the road to healing. Specialty Court: Recovery classroom Since 2008 the Ventura County Behavioral Health, Ventura County Probation Agency, and Ventura County Office of Education have collaborated to start the Gateway High School s Recovery Classroom program. The mission of the Juvenile Drug Court is to help youth to break the pattern of alcohol or drug abuse and the negative behaviors associated with it. The Juvenile Drug Court program is for minors whose primary reason for involvement in the criminal justice system is substance abuse, are non-violent offenders and show motivation toward dealing with their substance abuse problems. Participants are under the jurisdiction of the juvenile court and receive close probation supervision and intensive substance abuse treatment. The Juvenile Drug Court program is a three-phase program, typically 12-18 months. The length of time is determined by the youth s performance, including attendance at treatment, court appearances, school performance, and regular contact with the probation officer, and sobriety maintenance. Goals Decrease juvenile criminal recidivism Increase school attendance and performance Improve employability Achieve sobriety Increase community involvement Decrease juvenile arrests for drug use and possession Decrease drug-related crime Drug abuse assessment and treatment Frequent reviews by the judge Education programs and assistance Supervised case management Solutions Program The Solutions program meets the needs of individuals with co-occurring disorders, both mental health and substance abuse problems. are the same as for Juvenile Drug Court, with an emphasis recovery on individual counseling, crisis intervention and relapse prevention.

In our community In collaboration with law enforcement, educators, parents and community groups, we are taking steps to make our path for our youth a safe one and help to sustain healthy communities in Ventura County. A snapshot of our efforts: Initiated the passing of Social Host Ordinances in all of the cities and unincorporated areas of Ventura County to combat underage drinking. Social Host Ordinance s target the location in which underage drinking takes place. Private homes are the settings most frequently identified as the place of last drink among young DUI offenders in Ventura County. These laws hold individuals responsible for underage drinking events. Host Reality Parties through Straight Up Reality Improv, to teach parents about underage drinking parties. Straight Up youth want parents to face the current realities and learn how adults can help to change these dangerous social norms in Ventura County. Give educational presentations in local schools to educate teachers and parents about the dangers of alcohol and drug use. Provide cities with Alcoholic Energy Drinks warning signs in retail establishments. Partner with law enforcement targeting DUI prevention efforts. Talk to parents and youth about prescription and over-the-counter drug abuse and help to establish safe disposal bins in local police stations. Work to ensure safe alcohol retail practices in our cities. collaboration our partners Ventura County Human Agency Ventura County District Attorney Ventura County Superior Court Ventura County Office of Education Ventura County Probation Agency Ventura County Public Defender Ventura County Public Health Interface Children Family Why Ventura County Alcohol & Drug Programs?
