Comparison SMART Sync 2011 software SMART Sync classroom management software enables teachers to observe and guide students from their computers. When a teacher broadcasts his or her desktop to student desktops, the window will zoom to best fit if Full Screen mode is selected. Windows teachers can add a Mac student to a group. However, Mac students are unable to join groups on their own. Voting is disabled. When the Pen tool is selected, Windows students can annotate and erase on their desktops. Mac students are unable to use this feature. Mac teachers have shared control only. Teachers are unable to give exclusive control to Mac students. Teachers are unable to share media files with Mac students. Pass the Chalk mode is disabled for Mac students. 3

Questions and chat Application control Students can ask teachers questions, and teachers can send their responses to individual students or to the whole class. enable Chat to encourage online discussion and collaboration. create rules to allow or block access to specific applications. share application blocking rules with other teachers. centrally manage application blocking rules through SMART Administrator Tools - Classlist Manager. Not currently supported Mac students are unable to participate in Chat and Questions when they connect to a Windows teacher. create rules to allow or block access to specific applications. define applications as Windows-specific or Mac-specific. 4

Characters that are supported in Windows file names are automatically converted to Mac supported file names, and vice versa. Multicast and file transfer recovery are supported. Collaboration create a collaborative environment in which they organize their students into groups. Support for teacher aides Students can share screens and files, present their work to others and complete group assignments. Collaboration is not supported for students running on a Windows MultiPoint Server. connect to other teachers classes as teacher aides. Teacher aides can install and use SMART Sync software without purchasing an additional license. Not currently supported Collaboration is disabled when Mac students are connected. Student configuration add students to the SMART Sync Class List Server to centrally manage class lists. configure SMART Sync Student software during or after installation. enable or disable specific software features, such as asking questions, chatting, sending files and exiting the software. The SMART Sync Student software user interface can be visible or not visible to students.
