This becomes part of the merchant profile, which is downloaded directly into the secure card reader by Payment Express for the utmost security. Your Payment Express Gateway should be kept confidential because it enables real-time transaction processing. HOW DOES IT WORK? THE PAYMENT EXPRESS GATEWAY SERVICE Taking card payments requires three components: The Point of Sale Software (Hamilton products): the software interface that tracks what is being purchased The Payment Gateway (Payment Express): Payment Express provides a level 1 PCI compliant payment gateway. All of the customer credit card information is fully encrypted on the gateway, and Payment Express is responsible for securely processing a customer s card transaction. Once complete, the information is then sent to one of the banks Payment Express is certified with in a daily uplink. The credit card authorization information is sent with each transaction record. The Acquiring Bank: responsible for settling the processed transactions into your chosen business bank account(s). You will need to get a Merchant ID with one of the banks that Payment Express is certified with. Once Payment Express has the Merchant ID, the credit card authorization data can be sent to your bank and they will pay your company, settling the funds into your account. SECURITY AND ENCRYPTION The Payment Express terminal solutions have robust encryption measures in place to prevent personal cardholder data breaches without compromising the speed and convenience of your cardholders financial transactions. The payment devices have implemented the most comprehensive, P2PE security solution available, that immediately encrypts data at the point of swipe so personal information is never in the clear. They also incorporate Payment Express proprietary DUKPT key management system that dynamically encrypts every transaction with a unique key, as well as being PA DSS v2.0 certified. Page 4 of 8

GLOSSARY MERCHANT Provides the point-of-sale payment solution in order to sell their product or services to a customer, e.g. a car wash operator. CUSTOMER/CONSUMER The cardholder placing a purchase via the merchant s payment solution. The cardholder receives their credit card from an issuer. ISSUER/ISSUING BANK The card company (Visa, MasterCard etc.) or bank that issues the credit card to a cardholder. ACQUIRER/MERCHANT BANK The financial institution that provides the merchant with the necessary merchant accounts for accepting credit card payments (e.g. Visa, MasterCard). The acquirer processes authorizations and settlements to the merchant s accounts and handles the financial exchanges between the merchant and customer s credit card issuer bank. PAYMENT GATEWAY PROVIDER This is Payment Express. Payment Express provides the gateway technology to process payments via the Internet. This is the bridge between the merchant s point-of-sale and the acquirer s financial processing system. PROCESSOR/PROCESSING NETWORK/BANK PROCESSOR The clearing house provider that processes the credit card transactions and settles funds to the acquirer/merchant. The processor works as the central clearing house for the acquirer and conducts processing between the merchant site and the acquirer. The processor is connected to the merchant via the payment gateway provider. EMV A payment card standard (developed by Europay, MasterCard, and Visa) incorporating chip technology for strong authentication, encryption and fraud control. Rather than swiping a credit card to read the magnetic strip, the card is inserted into a slot or held near a wireless reader. EMV technology provides greater protection against copying and re-using static data from the magnetic stripe. Using an EMV card can take longer than a card with a magnetic stripe. The liability shift in the U.S. was Oct 1, 2015 for all but ATMs and pay-at-the-pump (Oct 1, 2017), in Canada it was Dec 2012 for all but Interac (Dec 31, 2015).
