Agenda Approach Assess Entry Points Planning Detailing and Building the Roadmap 2
Open Mic: How many of you have a published roadmap? Is it current? 3
Our Approach to Building a Roadmap 1. Assess the Current State 2. Determine the Entry Point/Next Step 3. Plan for Incremental Releases 4. Detail the Plan, Build a Roadmap 4
1. Assess the Current State 5
Assessment Framework 6
Assess the Current State Maturity 7
Assess the Current State People Process Tools 8
Assess the Current State Scoring 9
2. Determine the Entry Point / Next Step 10
2. Determine the Entry Point / Next Step CA PPM Portfolio Management Requirements Planning IT Financial Management Project & Program Management Application Portfolio Management Resource Management Demand Management Cost and Time Management Health and Status Reporting Reporting 11
3. Plan for Incremental Releases 12

Open Mic: How often do you have releases? 14
Incrementalism is Crucial benefit cost Do not let PERFECT get in the way of BETTER! Source: Romero Consulting time 15
4. Detail the Plan, Build a Roadmap 16
A Typical Roadmap 17
Detailing the Roadmap 1. The Goal 2. Functionality Included 3. Functional Dependencies 4. Value Statements 5. Cultural Impacts 6. Draft Work Plan 18
1. The Goal Brief and direct scope statements Business focused Areas involved (Project Management) People impacted (Roles or Groups) Example: Status Reporting This release will focus on improving the communication of project status. The PMO will implement a standard approach for all project managers to prepare and communicate project status information within CA PPM. 19
2. Functionality Included 20
3. Functional Dependencies Identify upstream functionality that will be leveraged/required in this release Example: Status Reporting Status Reporting Release Project Risks Status Object Updates Project Issues Security Updates Project Milestones/ Deliverables Metrics Creation 21
4. Value Statements What are the benefits of this release and how will each user experience those benefits Example: Status Reporting This release will maximize communication of project information with minimal effort using a standard approach for all projects to follow For a Project Manager: Ease of Use CA PPM will be configured for a streamlined status report submission avoiding functionality not required For Executives and Management: One Stop Shopping A Dashboard and Storyboard report will display and distribute real-time status information for all projects 22
5. Cultural Impacts The biggest risk when implementing CA PPM can be poor adoption due to cultural impacts Take the time to generate a list of possible cultural impacts Example: Status Reporting Moving from flexible tools and timelines to a fixed approach and reporting cycle Poor visibility into project data in current reporting cycle to realtime transparent live data 23
6. Draft Work Plan Develop an estimate of effort and duration for each release This is early stage planning and represents the scale or general size of each release Example: Status Reporting Role Name Role Responsibility Estimate of Effort (Days) Project Manager Schedule owner, internal communications, status reporting and Solution signoff 10 Clarity Administrator Access group creation, knowledge transfer activities 10 Clarity Trainer Training guide development for Application Data entry and Assessments 10 EA Client Requirements Definition, Data collection, Attribute identification, App assessment definition 15 Operations Client Requirements Definition, Data collection, Attribute identification, App assessment definition 15 24
Summary 1. Assess the Current State Take the time to understand and align on where you are today 2. Determine the Entry Point/Next Step Need to demonstrate value quickly 3. Plan for Incremental Releases Do not let PERFECT get in the way of BETTER 4. Detail the Plan, Build a Roadmap Create a longer term plan and communicate the plan to set expectations 25
