Certificate in Shipping And Logistics Co-organized by The Hong Kong Shippers Council HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education Introduction The Certificate of Shipping and Logistics is jointly developed by the HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKU SPACE) and the Hong Kong Shippers Council as a re-constitution of the highly popular Comprehensive Certificate Course. The aims of this programme are: 1. To provide industry practitioners, especially the new entrants a comprehensive training programme on the basics of shipping and logistics operations; 2. To provide practitioners an academic progression path that leads to hi g he r ac ade mic/ pro fessio n al qualific atio ns thro u g h t hi s pro gramme. Medium of Instruction The lectures are normally conducted in English, supplemented by Cantonese. Handouts and examinations are in English. Award Students who have an overall pass (2 examinations, 1 quiz and 1 written report) and have attended at least 70% of the lectures will be awarded the Certificate. Minimum Entry Requirements Applicants shall 1. Attained Hong Kong Diploma in Secondary Education (HKDSE) Level 2 or above in 5 subjects including English Language; or 2. Attained Hong Kong Certificate of Education Grade E/Level 2 or above in 5 subjects including English Language; or 3. 1 year relevant work experience at supervisory level in shipping and logistics industry; or 4. Completed Form 5/Secondary 6 with employer s recommendation endorsed by the Hong Kong Shippers Council. Applications will be considered by the Admission Committee on a case by case basis. Those with other equivalent qualifications and relevant work experience will be considered on individual merits. Further study Graduates of this programme having attained Grade C or above in either one of the examinations are eligible to apply for the Professional Diploma in Logistics and Transport Management Programme.
The Programme Structure The programme covers 12 topics in 2 modules in 8 months and the lectures will be arranged every Tuesday night. Visits will be organized to sea container terminal, air cargo terminal or the like during the course. Module 1: Freight Transport Operation 1.
