1. Introduction The Labtech LMS is a comprehensive education tool designed to enrich courses by embedding digital content and assessments into traditional teaching and learning. A full suite of content creation tools is included to enable instructors and instructional designers to enhance their courses with customized digital content. Scheduling, communication, and web 2.0 tools allow multiple options for students and instructors to meet the diverse needs of learners in the 21st Century. This document is the installation and quick guid of Labtech LMS running on the Microsoft Windows platform. This guide is specifically for Standard versions 1.x.x starting at version 1.0.0. The intended audience for this document are IT andministrators, teachers or students. A basic understanding of the Windows operating system is required to understand this documentation. 1.1. Requirements The following are the requirements to install Labtech LMS : Hardware: There are no limits on the type of hardware used to host an Labtech LMS installation. However, as your needs grow, so will the need for additional resources. A simple Labtech LMS installation requires about 50M of free disk space and 32M of free system memory. However, a minimum of 128M free memory available to PHP is recommended. Disk space should be allocated according to usage. Software: Labtech LMS requires an environment running the following: PHP version 5.1+ (PHP 5.2+ recommended) Mysql Server 4+ (Mysql 5 is strongly recommended, and mandatory for Labtech LMS Enterprise installations) Web server (Apache 2+ recommended, although Labtech LMS can work with Apache 1.x, IIS, nginx or lighttpd) Write access from the web server to some folders inside the Labtech LMS installation ( setup on Linux Server with Apache below) Page 3 of 19
2. Installation 2.1 User Acount Control Run the Labtech LMS Setup.exe file. Application Labtech LMS popup will appear for certain versions of Windows (see Picture 2.1). If it does, click on the Yes button. Before or after this popup your anti-virus software may or may not also popup a message or screen identifying this setup program as an unknown or untrusted application. If so, click on whatever option in your antivirus program that allows the setup to continue. You may have to configure your anti-virus software before hand to allow this setup program to proceed, or you may have to disable your antivirus program all together for a short time, run this setup program and then re-enable your anti-virus software. Picture 2.1 User Account Control 2.2 Welcome Screen Labtech LMS Wizard Welcome screen will now appear (see Picture 2.3). Please read this and all subsequent screens carefully. It is recommended that you close any other applications/windows you have open/running at this time. Click on the Next button to continue or the Cancel button to abort installation. Page 4 of 19
Picture 2.2 Welcome Screen. 2.3 Select Component The next screen displayed is the Select Component (See Picture 2.3). This will be the Component that is used Labtech LMS within the application. Select the component you want to install, clear the component you do not want to install. and then click on the Next button to continue, the Back Button to return to the previous screen or the Cancel button to abort installation. Picture 2.3 Select Component. 2.4 Select Start Menu Folder The next screen displayed is the Select Start Menu Folder (See Picture 2.4). Accept the default, or modify the folder name where you wish the Labtech LMS to be installed, if you don't want to create start menu folder, check Don't create a Start Menu Folder and then click on the Next button to continue, the Back Button to return to the previous screen or the Cancel button to abort installation. Picture 2.4 Select Start menu Folder 2.5 Select Additional Task The next screen displayed allows selecting additional tasks to perform during installation (See Picture 2.5). Check or uncheck the box to create a desktop icorn for the Labtech LMS and then click on the Next button to continue, the Back Button to return to the previous screen or the Cancel button to abort installation. Picture 2.5 Select Additional Task. 2.6 Ready To Install The next screen displayed allows final confirmation of the installation settings that have been entered in the previous screens (See Picture 2.6). Review all settings and if they are all correct and you are now ready to install Labtech LMS and then click on the Install button to continue, the Back Button to return to the previous screen or the Cancel button to abort installation. 2.7 Installing Process The next screen displayed the process installing requirement of Labtech LMS such as xampp, extracting LMS file (See Picture 2.7). Please wait while setup installs Labtech LMS on your computer or click Cancel button to abort installation. Picture 2.7 Installing Process. Page 10 of 19
2.8 XAMPP Installation The next screen displayed XAMPP Installation (See Picture 2.8). After the installation of the Labtech LMS is complete, the next step is to complete the XAMPP Installation. 2.9 XAMPP Installation Progress The next screen displayed The progress installing XAMPP that have been entered in the previous screens (See Picture 2.9). Please wait while setup installs XAMPP on your computer or click Cancel button to abort installation. Click Install button to finish Installation Wizard.
