The Les Mason and Gail Devine Travel Award in Graphic Design Exchange Students Closing Date for Semester 2 2015 Exchange: 1 April Les Mason was one of Australia s leading graphic designers. A member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale, he had a reputation for graphic design excellence with a career spanning over 30 years. Born in California, Les studied painting and interior design at the Chouinard Art Institute in California, before moving to Melbourne in 1961. After opening his own studio in South Melbourne, he began the work that earned him respect and built the reputation of the design industry. During his career Les won a string of internal and Australian awards in packaging, corporate identity, annual reports, advertising campaigns and architectural graphics. Les is also known for his work as art director of Epicurean where he established the magazine as the most prestigious of the wine and food industry. Gail Devine, Les wife, established this travel award to honour both the significant contribution Les made to the Australian graphic design industry as well as celebrating their joint passion for art and travel. Gail hopes this travel award will provide an opportunity for conscientious and motivated students to deepen their learning and dedication to graphic design by being exposed to artistic influences overseas.
