Attention 7-12 parents and students: Last year we had the opportunity to pilot a 1:1 Chromebook program in grades 7-8. During this program, we were able to assess the impact providing each student with a device had on the learning environment. In addition, we learned many aspects that needed to be reworked to make any type of 1:1 program what is best for LCCS. As a result of our findings from the Chromebook pilot program, we have decided to implement the following to provide a 1:1 environment in grades 7-12 at LCCS: Grades 7-8: We will once again be providing Chromebooks for all students in grades 7-8. The Chromebooks will be in cases to help eliminate the potential for damage. Parents will have the option to request that their student leave his/her Chromebook at school. Full expectations for Chromebook use will be communicated when Chromebooks are ready to be distributed. This information and all necessary forms will be distributed in the next few weeks. Grades 9-12: We have opted to implement a modified Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program at the high school level. Please note: The Chromebook program will be extended into grades 9-12 for students who do not have a personal laptop. Chromebooks for grades 9-12 will not be provided until the open enrollment period for the BYOD program has closed. More information regarding LCCS provided Chromebooks for students in grades 9-12 will be communicated at the beginning of October. We recognize that many students already have a laptop they use outside of school. As a result, we are excited to announce that students in grades 9-12 may now bring personal LAPTOPS to school for use on the LCCS student wireless network. Please review the policies of this program in the pages that follow. 1
LCCS Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Policy a) ONLY laptops may be brought and used as part of the grades 9-12 BYOD program. - A laptop is defined as a personal computer that has a lid which can be closed and has its own built-in physical keyboard - Tablets of any kind with Bluetooth keyboards DO NOT qualify as laptops - Personal Chromebooks may also be registered, however, due to the difference in the way Chromebooks are managed, there will be a $30 charge to cover the needed license for Chromebook management software. b) Students who bring personal laptops are specifically agreeing to apply all the computer policies at school to the use of their personal computers. c) Students will not have access to the student wireless network until their computers have been checked for current operating system updates, malware, viruses, and current anti-virus software and the LCCS management software is installed. d) Students bringing technology to campus must verify that their anti-virus software exists and is up to date. Knowingly bringing on premises or infecting the network with a virus, Trojan, or program designed to damage, alter, destroy, or provide access to unauthorized data or information may result in disciplinary action that could include suspension of BYOD privileges. e) Personal student laptops will only be configured to use the LCCS student wireless network. f) Students may use personal laptops and the LCCS student network to access legitimate material for school use. g) In the classroom, teachers will decide when it may be used and for what purpose(s). The technology may only be used to access files on computer or Internet sites which are relevant to the classroom curriculum. h) When authorized for use by the classroom teacher, laptops will remain visible. i) Use of a personal laptop is a privilege that may be revoked at any time due to noncompliance or for any other reason such a loss of privilege is deemed necessary by administration. j) Hacking, altering, or bypassing network security and sharing IDs/passwords are examples of inappropriate behavior and may result in disciplinary action that could include suspension of BYOD privileges. k) LCCS is not responsible nor will be held liable for any loss of or damage to personal laptops l) Students take full responsibility for their personal laptops. LCCS is not responsible for the security of personal laptops. m) Connecting laptops to physical school technology property is prohibited. Items include but are not limited to printers, data projectors, speakers, hard wired network, etc n) Students are responsible for trouble shooting and technical support of their personal laptops. The school is not responsible for technical support of or repairs to personal laptops. o) All Internet access will be filtered and no attempt shall be made to bypass the filter using any technology available (proxy servers, remote desktop sharing, etc.). p) LCCS has the right to collect and examine any laptop that is suspected of causing network problems or is believed to be the source of a malicious attack or virus infection. q) Laptops are not to be brought to nor used during lunch. 2
Laptops must meet the following system specifications to be added to the LCCS network: Windows/Linux PC Core 2 Duo Intel or AMD Equivalent (Athlon 2X2) or better 4GB RAM or more Windows 7 or newer Minimum 10GB available hard drive space Antivirus software required (Microsoft Security Essentials recommended; preinstalled on machines running Windows 8 or newer) Apple Mac OS10.8 or newer 4 GB RAM or more Laptop Enrollment In order to ensure a smooth and systematic enrollment of devices, students will be provided a designated enrollment window during which they may bring a device. If a student misses his/her enrollment window, they will need to wait until the final open window at the end of the enrollment period. Enrollment windows are as follows: Grade 12 Friday, September 18, 2015 & Monday, September 21, 2015 Grade 11 Tuesday, September 22, 2015 Wednesday, September 23, 2015 Grade 10 Thursday, September 24, 2015 Friday, September 25, 2015 Grade 9 Monday, September 28, 2015 Tuesday, September 29, 2015 Open Enrollment All grades 9-12 Wednesday, September 30 Friday, October 2, 2015 Enrollment Procedures On the date of their enrollment window, students will need to bring laptops to Mrs. Heidi Roberts in the Central Office before school. If a laptop requires a password for access, the password must be provided on the attached form at the time* the device is brought for enrollment. (*If a password is required but one was not given, the laptop will be returned to the student and he/she must wait until the end of the enrollment period for it to be enrolled onto the network). During the day, laptops brought for enrollment will be scanned by a LCCS computer technician to ensure it is free of malware, viruses, and any other software that could compromise the wireless network at LCCS. 3
Once a laptop has passed the scan, the LCCS management software will be installed. Installing this software ensures we are able to maintain the integrity and security of our network and is a requirement for a laptop to be added to the network. Laptops will be available for pickup from Mrs. Heidi Roberts at the end of the enrollment day. As previously stated the following use guidelines apply to all devices, whether personal or provided by LCCS: Technology Acceptable Conduct & Use Agreement Lake Center Christian School provides a wide array of technology resources for student use. This agreement, along with the student handbook for each school, outlines appropriate use and prohibited activities when using technology resources. Every student is expected to follow all guidelines stated below, as well as those given orally by the staff, and to demonstrate good citizenship and ethical behavior at all times. In accepting this agreement, students acknowledge the following rules and conditions: As a Lake Center Christian School student, I understand that my school network and email accounts are owned by LCCS and are not private. Lake Center Christian School has the right to access my information at any time. GOVERNMENT LAWS: I will use computers in conformity with laws of the United States and the State of Ohio. Violations include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Criminal Acts These include, but are not limited to, hacking or attempting to access computer systems without authorization, harassing email, cyberstalking, child pornography, vandalism, and/or unauthorized tampering with computer systems. 2. Libel Laws - Publicly defaming people through the published material on the internet, email, etc 3. Copyright Violations - Copying, selling or distributing copyrighted material without the express written permission of the author or publisher (users should assume that all materials available on the Internet are protected by copyright), engaging in plagiarism (using other's words or ideas as your own). LCCS NETWORKS: 1. I understand that passwords are private. I will not allow others to use my account name and password, or try to use that of others. 2. I will be polite and use appropriate language in my email messages, online postings, and other digital communications with others. I will not use profanity, vulgarities or any other inappropriate language as determined by school administrators. 3. I will use email and other means of communications (e.g. blogs, wikis, chat, instant-messaging, discussion boards, etc.) responsibly. I will not use computers, cell phones, personal digital devices or the Internet to send or post hate or harassing mail, make discriminatory or derogatory remarks about others, or engage in bullying, harassment, or other antisocial behaviors either at school or at home. 4 4. I understand that I am an Ambassador for the school in all my online activities. I understand that what I do on social networking websites such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook should not reflect negatively on my fellow students, teachers, or on Lake Center Christian School. I understand that I will be held responsible for how I represent myself and my school on the
Internet. 5. I understand that masquerading, spoofing, or pretending to be someone else is forbidden. This includes, but is not limited to, sending out e-mail, creating accounts, or posting messages or other online content (e.g. text, images, audio or video) in someone else's name as a joke. 6. I will use LCCS computer resources responsibly. I will not retrieve, save, or display hate-based, offensive or sexually explicit material using any of LCCS's computer resources. I am responsible for not pursuing material that could be considered offensive. I understand that I am to notify an adult immediately if by accident I encounter materials which violate appropriate use. 7. I will use LCCS technology resources productively and responsibly for school-related purposes. I will not use any technology resource in such a way that would disrupt the activities of other users. 8. I will not attempt to bypass security settings or Internet filters, or interfere with the operation of the network by installing illegal software, shareware, or freeware on school computers. 9. I understand that vandalism is prohibited. This includes but is not limited to modifying or destroying equipment, programs, files, or settings on any computer or other technology resource. 10. I will respect the intellectual property of other users and information providers. I will obey copyright guidelines. I will not plagiarize or use other s work without proper citation and permission. 11. I will not use or access files, software, or other resources owned by others without the owner s permission. I will use only those school network directories that are designated for my use or for the purpose designated by my teacher. 12. I will follow all guidelines set forth by LCCS and/or my teachers when publishing schoolwork online (e.g. to a website, blog, wiki, discussion board, podcasting or video server). 13. I understand the Internet is a source for information that is both true and false; and that the school is not responsible for inaccurate information obtained from the Internet. 14. I understand that Lake Center Christian School administrators will deem what conduct is inappropriate use if such conduct is not specified in this agreement. 15. I understand that I am responsible to take care when using LCCS technology resources, including but not limited to, desktop computers, laptop computers, tablets, and Chromebooks. Repair costs incurred for damage to these resources which exceeds normal use will be billed to my parents. 5

I understand that my personal laptop may be searched by LCCS administrators in accordance with the technology use policy. I have read the applicable policies and this user agreement regarding LCCS technology resources and use of student-owned laptops and agree to abide by their provisions. I understand that violation of these provisions may result in suspension or revocation of system access and/or suspension or revocation of permission to use my personal laptop for instructional purposes while on campus.
