Masters Education at the IIIEE Thomas Lindhqvist IIIEE 1 December 2008 EMP - MSc Programme in Environmental Management & Policy A multidisciplinary programme designed to educate individuals in the area of Cleaner Production and related preventative environmental management. The overall objective is to give a solid knowledge regarding policies, strategies, instruments, and technologies used to promote preventive approaches to environmental problems. All courses deal directly with the conceptual and practical aspects of preventative environmental strategies. The education is built upon a multi-disciplinary approach. 1
MSc Admission Requirements The applicant must have a Bachelor's Degree (not less than 3 years of full-time studies) in one of the following areas: engineering, natural science, business administration, economics, law, or relevant social science. The entire Programme is conducted in English, hence sufficient English language skills are an absolute requirement for participation. Strategic Environmental Development (9 ECTS) Applied Research Methods (8 ECTS) THESIS The thesis work (30 ECTS) is an individual research task focusing an aspect of preventive environmental strategies or approaches, resulting in a thesis of high quality. Students will be encouraged to select thesis subjects related to their home countries, and linked to industries, authorities or organisations active in these countries. For the thesis work, the Institute will encourage and try to facilitate the involvement of advisors active in the countries and organisations in question. These advisors will work in close co-operation with the main responsible advisor at the Institute. Many of the theses written by former students have been developed in co-operation with and for organisations and industrial enterprises. The thesis projects are normally linked to research at the IIIEE. 4

Central European University (CEU) Lund University (IIIEE) University of Manchester University of Aegean The MESPOM Consortium aims to advance a truly European perspective on environmental studies by combining Nordic, Mediterranean, Western and Central European scholarly and practical traditions and approaches. 5
MESPOM Study Programme The 2-year (120 ECTS) Masters programme is delivered in English and includes three terms of taught courses followed by a fourth research term. First two terms taught at CEU, comprise mandatory and elective units focused on legal, economic, and political as well as scientific and technological aspects of key environmental challenges and the society-environment interaction. Third term students choose between specialised tracks in either preventive environmental strategies in the public and private sector (at IIIEE) or environmental sciences and pollution control (at the UoM). Both tracks emphasize hands-on research and practical experience in industries, organizations, and laboratories. Fourth term the students conduct their individual research projects and write Masters theses at any of the four Consortium partners. This is normally combined with internships at inter-governmental organizations, government, industry or NGOs in Europe or home countries.
