Thermostatic bar showers Troubleshooting and maintenance
General Fault Diagnosis Outlet too cold Outlet too hot - Hot water supply must be 10ºC higher than desired mixed outlet for the mixer to operate efficiently. - No hot water reaching mixer - Filters / Flow regulators blocked - If the fault has been present since the mixer was installed it is possible that the inlets were installed incorrectly. - The water supply will be colder in winter months due to the outside. - Mixed pressure systems i.e. Mains Cold Gravity Hot - No cold water to the mixer - Refer to manufactures guidelines. - Check the water supply for any blockages. and clean, Refer to cleaning and - Check that the inlets are installed correctly Hot on the left / cold on the right on the mixer bar, this can be checked by viewing for condensation on the right side of the bar and holding your hand (NOT TOUCHING) over the left side feeling for radiated heat. If inlets are incorrect the pipework will need to be re plumbed. - It maybe necessary to adjust the hot supply, i.e. increase the hot water setting on boiler. And / or -If the hot water is supplied from a combination boiler, check the mixer valve to determine if Flow Regulators have been fitted. If not then they will need to be fitted, Refer to installation section. - The max pressure ratio is 5:1 if this cannot be achieved it will be necessary to fit a pressure reducing valve to the cold supply or a booster pump to the hot supply. - Check the cold supply for any blockages. - If the exceeds 46ºC refer to installation and maintenance sections, If the problem persists contact our customer service department. -Filters / Flow regulators blocked and clean, Refer to the cleaning and 11
General Fault Diagnosis continued Outlet too hot Only hot or cold water from mixer outlet Fluctuating flow - If the fault has been present since the mixer was installed it is possible that the inlets were installed incorrectly. -The water supply will be even hotter in summer months due to the outside. - Mixed pressure system i.e. Gravity Cold Mains Hot - Possible that the inlets have been installed the incorrect way around -If only cold water is coming out of the mixer bar it is possible there is a Cartridge fault - Filters / Flow regulators blocked - Possible Blockage - Check that the inlets are installed correctly normally Hot on the left / cold on the right on the mixer bar, this can be checked by viewing for condensation on the right side of the bar and holding your hand (NOT TOUCHING) over the left side feeling for radiated heat.. If inlets are incorrect the pipework will need to be re plumbed. - It maybe necessary to adjust the hot supply, i.e. decrease the hot water setting on boiler. - The max pressure ratio is 5:1 if this cannot be achieved it will be necessary to fit a pressure reducing valve to the hot supply or a booster pump to the cold supply. - Check that the inlets have been installed correctly normally with the hot on the left / cold on the right on the mixer bar, this can be checked by feeling the left and right sides of the mixer bar. If incorrect the pipework will need to be re plumbed. - Remove and check the condition of the thermostatic cartridge refer to the cleaning and maintenance section. and clean, refer to the cleaning and - Check both water supplies for any blockages. -Check the handset for any noticeable build up of lime scale, if there is a lime scale build up remove and submerge in a 50/50 solution of hot water and white vinegar, leave to soak for approx 4 hours. 12 - Check flow regulators at mixer outlet and handset outlet.
9. General Fault Diagnosis continued Fluctuating flow - Filters / Flow regulators partially blocked - Possible Air lock - Remove cartridge and service, refer to the cleaning and - Check shower hose for any blockages and / or kinks. and clean, refer to the cleaning and Fluctuating Temperature - Possible that the inlets have been installed the incorrect way around -Check that the pressures do not exceed of that stated for the product -Temperature is affected when another outlet is being used - Turns Hot -Turns Cold - If using a booster pump which pulsates the may be effected due to the pulsating. - Remove the handset for the handset holder and lower into the bath / shower tray, run the shower on the coldest setting for 15-20mins. - Check that the inlets have been installed correctly with the hot on the left / cold on the right on the mixer bar, this can be checked by viewing for condensation on the right side of the bar and holding your hand (NOT TOUCHING) over the left side feeling for radiated heat. If inlets are incorrect the pipework will need to be re plumbed. - If pressures are to high adjust as necessary, refer to specification. - Over ride of hot pressure -Over ride of cold pressure -Excessive demand on combi boiler - Check flow regulators at mixer outlet and handset outlet, clean if necessary. 13
General Fault Diagnosis continued Cannot adjust Poor flow rate Water leaking from shower head when the valve is turned off / closed Water leaking from shower valve / controls -Possible that the Cartridge is sticking due to a lime scale build up -Over ride manually - Insufficient head height -Filters / Flow regulators partially blocked -Flow valve not fully opening - This can be normal for a short period of time after the shower has been used. - Check that the pressures do not exceed of that stated for the product - Flow valve leaking -Leaking from flow valve -Leaking from thermostatic cartridge - Remove the thermostatic cartridge and service. Refer to the cleaning and - Remove the handle by removing the end cap and centre retaining screw, turn the flow of water on fully and turn the cartridge spindle anti-clockwise to increase the water and clockwise to decrease the water. - The required minimum header height is 0.2 Bar (2 metres). this is the distance from the bottom of the cold water storage tank to the top of the shower head. -Remove Filters / Flow regulators and clean, refer to the cleaning and -Remove and check the condition of the flow valve. Refer to the cleaning and - If pressures are to high adjust as necessary, refer to specification. - Remove and check the condition of the flow valve, Refer to cleaning and maintenance and spare part section. -Remove and check the condition of the flow valve, Refer to cleaning and maintenance and spare part section. -Remove and check the condition of the thermostatic cartridge, refer to cleaning and maintenance and spare part section. 14 - Check that the pressures do not exceed of that stated for the product - Check that the pressures do not exceed of that stated, If pressures are to high adjust as necessary, refer to specification.
Cleaning & Maintenance Your fitting has a high quality finish and should be treated with care to preserve the visible surfaces. All finishes will wear if not cleaned correctly. The only safe way to clean your product is to wipe with a soft damp cloth. Stains can be removed using washing up liquid. All bathroom cleaning product (powders and liquids) will damage the surface of your fitting, even the non-scratch cleaners. NOTE:- Never use abrasive detergents or disinfectants or those containing alcohol, hydrochloric or phosphoric acid. Regular maintenance We advise that the valve is regularly serviced and the handset cleaned particularly in hard water areas to maintain an even spray/ flow of water and best performance. See opposite for the UK map Of hard water areas. The following Tools are Required for Servicing: - - Cross head screw driver - 23mm A/F Box spanner NOTE:- Before carrying out any servicing Isolate both water supplies to the shower valve. Refer to section 8 (setting) for a diagram of the components of this valve and the order in which they fit together. - Remove the control handle, by removing the end cap and loosening the grub screw. - Unscrew the cartridge anti-clockwise out of the body. - Place the cartridge in a bowl and carefully add hot water (just off the boil) and vinegar to de-scale the cartridge. - Leave until the water has cooled and rinse with clean water. - Grease the seals with a silicon grease and carefully refit. - Reset the maximum and refit the handle.
