Susan Wakil Scholarship (Undergraduate) Information for Applicants 2016 Established in 2015, with funding from The Susan and Isaac Wakil Foundation, the Susan Wakil Scholarships aim to encourage individuals to undertake a Bachelor of Nursing (Advanced Studies) degree at Sydney Nursing School, at the University of Sydney. The Susan Wakil Scholarships are awarded in three scholarship categories to assist students from rural or regional Australia; students from the Greater Sydney region; and students who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. SCHOLARSHIP CONDITIONS OF AWARD Applicant Eligibility: Applications will be accepted from candidates who: Meet the specific requirements of one of the following scholarship categories: a) Rural or regional scholarship: applicants are from rural or regional Australia; or b) Greater Sydney scholarship: applicants are from the Greater Sydney region; or c) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander scholarship: applicants are an Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander person. d) are either a citizen or permanent resident of Australia; and e) will be commencing in 2016 in the first year of a Bachelor of Nursing (Advanced Studies) degree at Sydney Nursing School; and f) will be enrolled full-time; and g) preference for the scholarship will be given to applicants who are not already in receipt of a scholarship. Scholarship Value: The total value of each scholarship will be payble over three (3) years: a) Rural or regional scholarship: Two scholarships, each with a total value of $87,500, to cover course fees and living expenses. exceed $87,000. b) Greater Sydney scholarship: Three scholarships, each with a total value of $20,000 to cover course fees and uniform or study-related expenses. exceed $20,000. c) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander scholarship: One scholarship with a total value of $87,500, to cover course fees and living expenses. exceed $87,000. 1 of 5
Scholarship Selection Criteria: a) All applications will be assessed by a scholarship assessment committee appointed by the Dean. b) Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria in a specific scholarship category will be shortlisted on the basis of their ATAR result, a 500 word personal statement including the appicants University Admission Centre (UAC) identification number. Scholarship Conditions: a) The tenure is up to 6 semesters, and total value received by each scholarship holder is capped and stated as above under title Scholarship Value. b) Annual amount is payable over two equal instalments after relevant census dates. c) The student must accept the scholarship in the semester in which it is offered. Deferral is not permitted. d) Student must enrol at least 24 credit points per semester. 24 credit points must be for courses that have not been attempted previously. e) Scholarship value will be adjusted in accordance with section 3(e). f) To retain the scholarship, the student must be enrolled full-time and demonstrate satisfactory progression with a SAM of 50. g) The scholarship holder is required to meet with the Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching) or their designated academic once a semester to discuss their progression. h) The scholarship can be approved for suspension only if the student has valid medical or personal reasons. Such requests must be approved by the Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching). i) The scholarship holder will be expected to prepare a brief note of thanks to the donor on an annual basis, including an update of their progress. They will also be expected to promote the Susan Wakil Scholarships and the postgraduate Advanced Learning Master s programs, at relevant faculty and University events. j) The scholarship will be terminated if the student withdraws from the agreed degree program, suspends without prior approval from the Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching), or fails to demonstrate satisfactory progression. k) The Scholarship will be awarded to an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
