about PBA Canada This designation was rebranded on January 1, 2015 and was previously known as Registered Public/Professional Accountant - created in Alberta in 1980, Canada in 1984, Atlantic Canada in 1996, Ontario in 2013 and British Columbia in 2014. Professional Business Accountants Society of Canada: Promotes, organizes and coordinates the educational activities of a diverse and growing group of professional accountants. The PBA designation can be attained when certain educational and work experience requirements are met. Promotes and furthers the profession of accounting across Canada. become A PBA MEMBER The Professional Business Accountants Society of Canada membership requires a range of skills and education, encouraging applications from qualified women and men. Qualification Requirements The PBA membership requires an approved application, application fee, annual membership fee, transcript of post-secondary education and a complete resume with references. PBA Member and Designation holder: The applicant is required to have a minimum of two years work experience in accounting along with the educational requirements. As a member, you will be required to maintain a CPE level of 25 credits per year and all members in public practice must have or be covered by Errors & Omissions insurance. Associate Member: Any applicant that has not completed all the required education and work experience can apply for associate membership. All associate members must be actively working towards completion of the PBA requirements. Associate members retain many of the same rights and benefits of the association and are bound by the bylaws and policies of the association. PBA Canada encourages students of accounting to join the association as an associate member. All of our required courses will be available online through our education partner.
