GE Healthcare Centricity Enterprise Provider Tools The clinical information system that gives you critical data when and where you need it. As a healthcare provider, your patients rely on you to deliver the safest, highest-quality care possible. So you need accurate and up-to-date patient data right at your fingertips. Whether you re looking for a patient s latest lab results, checking on medication allergies, or entering documentation, your time is at a premium. Centricity Enterprise was built from the ground up by providers, for providers. With a long heritage of supporting efficient workflow, Centricity Enterprise is a clinically rich, robust system with fully integrated clinical, financial and administrative applications. Comprehensive clinical documentation capabilities are designed around the way you work, helping you manage your challenging workload. By integrating patient information from all points in the healthcare delivery network information that can be used to support clinical decision-making Centricity Enterprise helps prevent medical errors and increases the quality of care you provide. 1

Manage and share information Healthcare providers have to sift through a massive amount of information in order to deliver safe, quality care. In addition to finding details of the patient s medical history, you are also expected to apply the most up-to-date medical knowledge to your treatment decisions. Centricity Enterprise organizes data and displays it in a way that makes sense. It also enables true teamwork by enabling the sharing of information or assignment of tasks across the enterprise, so that every member of the care team has simultaneous access to all patient data. Patient List Management Get secure, easy access to patient lists and records from any in-house or remote location. The frequent list directory allows you to manage a virtually unlimited number of lists and to subscribe to group lists. User-defined, role-based lists are automatically updated, so you ll always know where your patient is located. Provider Inbox and Messaging Management Take control of your workflow. From this central location, you can define and organize the types of messages and alerts you receive. Use Provider Inbox to review results, documents, alerts, tasks, messages and activities. You can also send patient care notifications to other users, or share notes with other providers. The Inbox notifies users of outstanding tasks and other critical information through a variety of customizable alerts. Tight integration with Document Display means that you can acknowledge results, display annotated information, or sign documents from within the Provider Inbox. Maintain clinical data GE Healthcare was one of the first software vendors in the industry to provide a patient-centered, lifetime medical record spanning the entire continuum of care. Access comprehensive current and historical patient data when and where you need it, helping improve clinical performance, decision-making, productivity and patient safety. Because time is important, Centricity Enterprise gives you customizable viewing of information as soon as it is entered, shaving hours or days off of the usual turnaround time of paper-based processes. Results are maintained as part of a patient's lifetime electronic medical record, building a comprehensive, cross-continuum record. Document Display Document Display is the primary tool for reviewing patient data. Displayed data includes provider progress notes, transcriptions, radiology results, cardiology results, laboratory results, micro results, nurses notes, nursing assessments, incidental encounter, telephone encounter information and more. Document Display also provides links to externally stored images, such as radiology, and scanned images from other GE Healthcare or vendor systems. Coupled with the Inbox, users reviewing results from the core clinical areas can also electronically sign, acknowledge or forward the results following their review. This functionality streamlines workflow by offering a single point of access and documentation to relevant patient information. Provider Inbox Document Display

Clinical Flowchart Viewer The Centricity Enterprise Clinical Flowchart Viewer can be used to aggregate and review laboratory results, medications administered, and patient assessments in either spreadsheet or graphical format, with different default views for inpatients and outpatients. Additionally, it has robust pre-built graphing capabilities, flexible medication display and filtering controls to sort findings, laboratory results, charted actions and observations. Choose to display a variety of related data, such as administered medication comments, most recent laboratory results and reference ranges. Chart Summary View Designed for clinic settings, Chart Summary View retrieves ambulatory patient data from the Centricity Enterprise database and displays an overview of a patient s medical status in an easy-to-view, single-screen format. Rather than flipping through a paper chart, you can view the patient s relevant information on the exam room terminal. A single click is all that s required to access the details you need, such as: Problems Prescriptions Allergies and intolerances Visit history Recent diagnostic results Health maintenance alerts Health Maintenance Alerts Health Maintenance Alerts can be set up to notify you when a patient-specific action is needed. Alerts may be displayed in your Inbox as well as other applications, such as Chart Summary View. Health Maintenance Alerts help you make more informed decisions with a specific focus on improving the quality of patient care and controlling costs. For example, an alert can be sent when a patient is due for a mammogram or an immunization. Chart Summary View

We ve been able to reduce potential medication errors more than 70 percent since the implementation of the system. When patients see the doctor and nurse accessing their information from the computer, it gives them a sense of security and the feeling that we re working in a more streamlined and automated fashion. It has had a very positive effect on patient satisfaction. Dr. Matthew Berger, M.D., Director, Medical Service, Einstein Division, Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY Streamline workflow Patient safety is a mission-critical goal of healthcare, and the ability to efficiently manage orders is paramount. Centricity Enterprise streamlines the process of entering, verifying, dispensing, and administering medication orders, while also providing necessary checks to help prevent the most common sources of medication errors. The system also allows you to personalize your ordering experience an important tool in driving CPOE adoption and improving ordering efficiency. Enterprise Orders and Pharmacy Once an order is entered, it must be transmitted to the clinician responsible for carrying it out. Any gaps or ambiguities can cause delays or errors. The tight integration of orders in Centricity Enterprise allows all orders to flow efficiently across the transition points of care, increasing efficiency to help improve the safety and quality of patient care. Centricity Enterprise Orders and Pharmacy automation streamlines workflow by reducing repetitive and timeconsuming tasks, and integrating workflows across the healthcare continuum. This robust and extensible ordering system supports all types of orders providing checks and balances that preserve the seven rights of medication administration to ensure accuracy at every step. Customize workflow Customize workflow to meet your organization s needs, while still maintaining signature and verification requirements. Patient-care activities can be customized by creating practice-specific workflows using the following functionality: Patient-specific order profiles Provider personalized order sets Conditional orders (e.g. if a patient s temperature reaches 101 F, order noted lab tests) Electronic online signing of orders Integrated closed loop medication management Future orders Order renew notifications Electronic prescriptions Cross-continuum medication reconciliation Integrated clinical decision support Support for medical student and resident signature handoff Customizable validation steps for additional provider review

Communicate and coordinate Built on a single integrated database, Enterprise Orders and Pharmacy easily handles transitions between inpatient and ambulatory care settings. You can place patient orders from any location in the enterprise to the appropriate support staff, who then can carry them out in a timely and efficient manner. This provides consistency of workflow and data collection, as well as reporting, data trending and disease profiling. Alerts inform users as orders go through each stage of signature or verification, notifying nurses when new orders are ready to be carried out. In the ambulatory setting, patients have the option of taking a written prescription, or having you fax it directly to their preferred pharmacy. The seamless integration of orders in Centricity Enterprise greatly facilitates the reconciliation process. Using Prescription Pad, you can document a medication history on admission, while also viewing the prescriptions the patient is taking at home. Once the medication history is reviewed, you may then generate new medication orders, which are directly communicated to pharmacy. Upon discharge from the hospital, you can select new medications started during the admission from the hospital medication profile, and copy them into the patient s prescription list. The system can then generate a discharge report containing patient medication administration instructions. Ensure safe care Enterprise Orders and Pharmacy integrates clinical decision support at multiple points in the workflow, including orders and handoffs between staff. Data necessary to place the correct order or to calculate the correct dose (including allergy lists or conflicting orders) is available throughout the order cycle. Clinicians charting the order can view the same alerts and other data seen by those who placed the order. Enterprise Orders and Pharmacy eliminates handwritten prescriptions one of the most common sources of preventable errors and performs real-time drug-allergy, drug-drug, duplicate order, and maximum dose conflict checks every time you place an electronic medication order. It also targets another area of error reduction: medical student and resident signature hand-off. With Centricity Enterprise Orders and Pharmacy providers can: Place orders from any location in the enterprise, and communicate those orders to the appropriate support staff to carry out patient care in a timely and efficient manner Suspend an order session and return to it later, or enter orders that will be initiated at a later time Adapt best practice-based care guidelines to an individual patient s condition Dynamically modify orders to meet the patient s changing condition Personalize their ordering experience through user-defined preferences and favorite lists of orders and order sets, and have those preferences available to proxy users for ordering as well

Build clinical notes Clinical Note Builder gives you two options for efficiently documenting a patient encounter, and supports a wide range of clinical workflows using free-form text-based templates, problem-oriented structured forms, or a combination of the two. In free-form notes, the history and physical exam data can be entered using a variety of data-entry methods, including text macro tools, voice recognition tools such as Dragon Naturally Speaking, dictation, or free-text typing. Alternatively, you can select structured forms to capture the historical and physical exam data by selecting items using drop-down lists, check boxes, radio buttons, or other electronic tools. This structured data can then be easily fed into the optional Centricity Enterprise Evaluation & Management Coding Advisor. In either format, the provider can automatically populate the note with data from the Centricity Enterprise Clinical Data Repository, thereby eliminating redundant data entry and transcription errors. Patient data that can be captured includes: Allergies Current medications Immunization history Referring provider Past medical history Past surgical history Family history Social history Specific information for the current encounter Problems New orders for current encounter If patients present multiple problems during the interview, you can easily select additional templates during the note building process. Once findings are entered, you can switch directly to other Centricity Enterprise applications to perform additional tasks, such as updating allergy information, indicating patient problem(s), placing appropriate diagnostic or medication orders, or writing prescriptions. When the workflow is completed, the system generates a clinical note from the findings entered and the tasks performed. All partially completed notes automatically create a notification in your Inbox as a reminder, and the system also maintains a complete audit trail of the changes. Clinical Note Builder

Clinical Note Builder optional companion products Centricity Enterprise s Evaluation & Management (E&M) Coding Advisor assists you in calculating the correct E&M code for the current visit, and ensures that appropriate documentation exists to support the selected coding. As you document clinical symptoms and findings, the E&M Code Calculator works in the background, incorporating user-defined parameters, counting discrete data elements and recommending the appropriate CPT4 code for the visit. You can then review and accept the results of the code, or provide additional free text information while recalculating. Once the final E&M code is calculated, you can add further CPT4 modifiers, as well as charges for additional procedures and supplies. The Anatomic Image Annotation tool enables you to associate one or more graphic image with a particular clinical note, and to annotate that image. A separate image viewer window allows a simultaneous review of both the document and the image. The annotation capabilities include straight line and freehand line drawing, rectangular and ellipsoid shape drawing, and keyboard text entry. Lines and shapes can be drawn in different colors, and shapes can be shaded or cross-hatched for emphasis. Summary With Centricity Enterprise, providers have the tools they need to collect, store, manage and apply patient information so they can provide safer, better care. From records management to error prevention, Centricity Enterprise can help you deliver the best possible care every time.
