This is a fast paced Secretarial job in our elementary school office with additional duties as District Health Assistant, both requiring the ability to multi-task while retaining a cheerful and professional demeanor with all students, staff and visitors. This is a temporary position for the remainder of the 11/12 school year that may become a permanent Classified Secretarial/Health Assistant position with benefits at the start of the 12/13 school year. Medical Office Assistant certification and/or experience in a clinical setting or school health clinic are preferred. POSITION SUMMARY The essential functions of the job may include, but are not limited to the following: serving as elementary office receptionist by receiving and routing phone calls and visitors with the ability to calmly manage calls and visits from upset, angry or confused callers; maintaining a variety of clerical records such as personnel, student files, student attendance, and student discipline records; entering and retrieving data using a computer and word processing and spreadsheet software programs; maintaining manuals and updating resource materials. The medical assistant duties may include but are not limited to the following: providing first aid and medical care to injured and ill students; coordinating medical trainings for staff; organizing the documentation and administering of student medications; tracking and documenting all student immunizations and submitting annual report to the health department; communicating with staff regarding students special medical problems/needs; communicating with parents and staff regarding disease outbreaks; performing screenings for vision, height, weight, head lice and checking vital signs; and serving as the District McKinney-Vento Liaison. Current first aid/cpr certification and willingness to be trained for medication, epinephrine and glucagon administration are also required.
