The MS in Educational Leadership requires 36 graduate credits. Certifications are also offered in Principal Certification, Curriculum Supervisor Certification, and Supervisor of Special Education Certification. Complete these application requirements for any of the following programs: Master s Degree, Curriculum Supervisor Certification, and Special Education Supervisor programs. Valid teaching certificate. If no certifications, then a teaching certificate is not required. Five years full-time teaching experience (by the time the degree is awarded). Personal statement a letter of intention outlining the candidate s professional goals and educational objectives for attending the program of their choice. Two letters of recommendation. Program Plan Two. Complete these application requirements for the Principal Certification program; and, if the Principal Certification program will be gained in conjunction with a Master s Degree, Curriculum Supervisor Certification, and/or Supervisor of Special Education, complete these requirements instead of the Program Plan One requirements. *Please note that if you do not initially apply for a Principal Certification and later decide to gain this certificate, then you will have to reapply and add numbers 6 and 7 below to your original application. Both letters must substantiate the candidate s leadership potential and qualifications to become a school administrator. Portfolio items: Essay concerning how principals shape learning in their schools. Resume that includes evidence of leadership potential (other leadership roles). Applicant s educational philosophy. A written description of a problem based learning activity. Personal statement a letter of intention outlining the candidate s. professional goals and educational objectives for attending the program of their choice. Tuition and Affordability Tuition is set per credit hour; most courses are three credits. Tuition rates are effective for the calendar year beginning June 1. Graduate Assistantships Several departments offer assistantships which provide a stipend in addition to a tuition scholarship. Applications for assistantships should be made to the director of a particular program after admission. Financial Assistance Students applying for financial aid administered by Saint Joseph s University must file for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In order to be eligible for federal assistance, the applicant must be enrolled on a half-time basis (at least 6 credits per semester) and be a citizen of the United States or have a permanent resident status.
