2 More ways to achieve more with inkjet printing With a new generation of dispersing agents, ASF now introduces the next generation of inkjet inks with even higher performance this means more pigment stabilization options for formulators, more colors for designers and printers, more digital printing. Inkjet printing requires highly stable inks at low viscosities. Such inks can only be achieved with the most carefully selected high-performance pigment dispersing agents. Efka products are known for their high performance and have become essential for modern inkjet applications. hard, waxy clear, free-flowing Tailor-made dispersing agents, and Efka 7732 provide pigment dispersion by steric stabilization using the most innovative processes in industrial polymer chemistry. This new generation of polymeric dispersing agents is tailor-made for inkjet applications and ASF s new product series covers the full range of formulating requirements for all important ink types and a broad selection of pigments to give the highest performance in solvent-based and UV-curable inkjet inks. Competitor Efka 7732, and Efka 7732 do not contain solvents. road solubility and show good solubility in common monomers and oligomers used in UV-curable inkjet inks. Efka 7732 is also effective but shows slight haziness in some monomers. Easy to handle products, and Efka 7732 are liquid and solventfree. Unlike products that are solid or waxy, they are easy to handle and easy to dissolve. EDC_4311_e_R_Efka_DispAg_Vers1.indd 3 The dispersing agents also show good solubility in solvents commonly used in mild- and strong-solvent inkjet inks. The products also have good solubility in ethanol and ethyl acetate. All three products have limited to no solubility in very apolar solvents such as pure alkanes and mineral oils. For these media a product such as Efka 7711 is better suited.

Efka dispersing agents not only impart good stability to the finished ink but also to the higher concentrated mill bases. This allows storage of the mill base without risk of flocculation before use in the finished ink formulation. A good example of this stabilizing ability is given here for a 100 % UV-curable ink formulation. is compared to a competitor dispersing agent for use with a quinacridone pigment. 1 viscosity stability (%) Products 100 80 10 30 40 50 active dispersing agent on pigment (%) 70 millbase ink Comp millbase Comp ink Here provides good stabilization of the mill base and the finished ink whereas the competitive product does not sufficiently stabilize the pigment. The stabilizing properties of the dispersing agents impart good filtration performance to the inks resulting in clog-free print-heads and filters. EDC_4311_e_R_Efka_DispAg_Vers1.indd 4

4 Smooth flow for perfect coverage Low viscosity and near-newtonian flow Performance over a broad range of pigments A flat rheological profile with minimal viscosity change on storage or jetting is a very important requirement for inkjet inks. Developing low viscosity in the finished ink is also important. oth of these properties can be achieved with the new Efka dispersing agents. and outperform the tested competition products for all the tested pigment chemistries in a UV-curable inkjet formulation. Furthermore the high- and low-shear viscosity values are almost equal indicating a near-newtonian flow profile.
