BT Telemarketing Services INFORMATION FOR CUSTOMERS GBR (Geographic Based Routing)/Enhanced AreaLink Technical Issues IMPORTANT NOTE: This document contains information on the GBR (Geographic Based Routing)/Enhanced AreaLink call treatment features as available on both the DSN platform and the Network Intelligence Horizon (NIP2/CPR2) platform. DSN Platform You decide which CSG (Caller Subscriber Geography) areas you feel are most important to you for further derivative and agree with your BT account/technical support those that can be specified. The remainder of the country catchment areas are handled within the standard AreaLink features call delivery process. You can define where the calls from these specified areas can be answered either through individual treatment and/or within grouped areas of different origins. The feature routes calls on the basis of partial Calling Line Identities (PCLIs), specifically on the first 4-7 digits of the callers number (excluding the leading '0'). Hence it is possible to identify individual local exchange processors by specifying to the seventh digit, e.g. 0208 744 1234 - here, recognition of the seven numbers in bold type will allow identification of the Twickenham exchange processor. Currently AreaLink breaks down the country into 722 areas (CSGs). GBR (Geographic Based Routing)/Enhanced AreaLink will give you the option of possibly selecting from approximately 6000 areas. GBR (Geographic Based Routing)/Enhanced AreaLink is available in three categories to provide greater granularity. We now offer Standard, Regional and National, in all cases the nodes must always sit directly in front of an AreaLink node. Standard allows up to 25 PCLI's per advanced plan to be specified, whereas Regional allows you to analyse a single continuous region in terms of up to 250 PCLI'S and National allows you to analyse the entire country in terms of up to 4,000 PCLI'S. Horizon Platform This feature permits you to define areas based on the fixed geographic location of the originating caller, for PSTN (Public Switched Telephony Network) callers this is the BT exchange location, Mobile callers are mapped to the nearest exchange to the mobile interconnect BT DMSU (Digital Main Switching Unit) location. The geographic exchange level can be picked and built up into definable areas using an on-line (control) maptool. It is also possible to define the exchange areas via other best-fit overlay maps using the maptool such as postcode Sector level (e.g. IG9) and TV Regions (e.g. Anglia), these overlays can also be defined using an off-line (Sales) maptool (NB: not exchange areas using off-line tool). Horizon Mobile Calls: There is one of two routing options available when setting up this feature:

1. A specific single branch is enabled so that all Mobile callers will route on this path. This is possible because of the Caller Line Identity that allows us to recognise if the call is of a mobile type. 2. If the above option is not used, then the feature will route mobile callers on the branch allocated the CSG relative to the Geographic BT interconnect point. All mobile calls, regardless of operator, that are delivered via BT will interconnect to BT's network via a DMSU (Digital Main Switching Unit) point. A mobile callers point of interconnect will vary depending on the mobile operators network design and the condition of the interconnect route at the time of the call i.e. if the nearest route is not available, then it may re-route via a different DMSU. This makes it impossible to guarantee the accuracy of the callers geographic origination. The BT interconnect DMSU's geographic location is mapped to the CSG that covers that area. Therefore, a mobile call that interconnects via a BT DMSU will route on the branch allocated the CSG that covers that location i.e. the same branch as the PSTN calls that originated from the same catchment CSG area. As of July 2001 there are 74 DMSU's mapped to 61 exchanges, or 60 CSG's, or 12 TV regions or 61 Post Codes depending on map definition used. To see which areas have a mobile BT interconnect point associated, please see table below: BT Inbound Services - Horizon The following table shows the relationship between the mobile BT interconnect points and the mapping area options of the map tool used for geographical 'Area' routing Advanced features. Some PBXs do not forward their CLIs. Likewise PBXs with DDI generally forward the CLI of the PBX and not that of the individual callers extension. 2. Oftel has issued in some geographical areas, exchange concentrator level numbers out of their processors home catchment area, e.g. 0208 744 1xxx is issued to be used in another exchange areas catchment and hence erodes the accuracy of the GBR (Geographic Based Routing)/Enhanced AreaLink feature. 3. GBR (Geographic Based Routing)/Enhanced AreaLink is not available on Inbound International or Universal services due to the inaccuracy in obtaining originating CLI from abroad. 4. GBR (Geographic Based Routing)/Enhanced AreaLink is not available on 0901-44, 0906-44 and 0909 (adult) service numbers due to pricing and commercial issues. 5. There must always be a OTHER branch to capture calls from areas not specifically listed in the order. 6. Selective barring of areas is not allowed. Advanced Features are a national service and all calls must therefore be routed to a termination point.

7. There is a maximum limit to the size of any Advanced Feature plan. Where this feature is used in combination with other features in a large complex plan, it is important that the order is submitted for validation before any commitment is given to the customer. DSN Restrictions & Notes 1. The service management system is limited to a maximum of 430 nodes. Any customer order requiring more than 500 answering centres should be referred to the Advanced Features Technical Support Group. 2. It is possible to have up to 92 branches from an GBR (Geographic Based Routing)/Enhanced AreaLink node. 3. All coverage areas of the country must be allowed for by combining the use of GBR (Geographic Based Routing)/Enhanced AreaLink and Arealink nodes. 4. The limit of 500 answering points per plan applies and will need to be considered in plan builds. 5. Two of the branches on each node must go direct to an AreaLink node and should be individually labelled OTHER and NONE. Where the network CLI is not forwarded, the call will default to the NONE branch (These can be specified with CSGs and hence the need for always associating with the standard Arealink node). 6. It is possible to receive CLI's that are unspecified, e.g., from unknown OLO or mobile numbers and new BT numbers not yet included in support data. These will be dealt with by the OTHER branch. 7. Customers cannot use the DSN ServiceView to build or amend GBR (Geographic Based Routing)/Enhanced AreaLink (Standard, Regional or National) nodes within a call routing plan. 8. Mobile phone access: Calls to DSN (Derived Services Network) AreaLink from mobile phones, whoever the mobile carrier, are allocated to eight DSN catchment areas CSG 931 to 938. Because there is no control over where the call is originated or indeed interconnected between the mobile operator and BT core network, there is no geographic significance to these types of calls. Horizon Restrictions & Notes 1. This feature is very user powerful and as a result requires more call processing during call handling than other features. With the added potential to have between 2 and 2500 branches defined, there is a restriction of 4 nodes per plan enforced. 2. There is an option to have a single branch for international calls. This is possible because of information included in the call network signal message that allows us to recognise if the call is from an international origin, but we can not identify the country or geographic location of the caller. 3. Network CLI's down to the 7th digit (e.g. 01473640), which is enough to associate to a geographic local exchange or concentrator, are used by this

feature as the basis for routing the call, therefore withheld CLI's are still used. (This is not the Presentation CLI) 4. As well as the mandatory 'Other' branch, used to route unspecified area calls, there is also a mandatory 'Unrecognised' branch, used to route calls that have originated from unknown CLI's or when no network CLI exists. 5. Cascading of this feature is allowed only once, i.e. this feature is allowed to be followed by one other of the same type on its output branches, that includes anywhere in the call flow that follows it in the plan. 6. Mobile phone access: Calls to Horizon AreaLink from mobile phones, whoever the mobile carrier, will interconnect via a BT DMSU, but there is no control over where the call is originated or indeed interconnected between the mobile operator and BT core network. Therefore, there is no guaranteed geographic significance to these types of calls. British Telecommunications plc 2001
