LPNs may perform all skills listed except those that are notated RN Please complete the following checklist for each person on your service and keep on file at the station. The must sign off each person to be competent in the skills or recommend to be completed before that person performs the skills. (a) Cannulate peripheral veins (RN) (b) Administer and monitor isotonic intravenous solutions (c) Utilize advanced airway management devices (RN) (d) Utilize Federal Drug Administration approved home glucose monitoring devices and oximeters (e) Administer prescription medications including: (1) Epinephrine auto-injectors (2) Supplemental oxygen using: Non-rebreather mask or nasal cannula (3) Aspirin (4) Albuterol EMT-I while functioning with an advanced life support emergency medical service: may perform all practices and procedures listed above. In addition, with the approval of the service s physician medical director the care may include the following as set forth in written protocols: (1) Establish and utilize advanced airway management devices including: (a) Intubation (RN) (b) Oropharyngeal and tracheal suctioning and (c) Extubation date (2) Perform advanced physical assessment including: (a) Percussion of the chest (b) Auscultate breath sounds (c) Auscultate heart tones (3) Needle decompression (RN) (4) End tidal CO2 and Pulse Oximetry monitoring (5) Administration of supplemental oxygen by: (a) Nasal cannula (b) Simple mask (c) Partial rebreather mask (d) Non-rebreather mask (e) Venturi mask (6) Ventilate a patient with devices including: (a) Bag valve mask (b) Flow restricted oxygen powered device (c) Automatic transport ventilator (7) Place orogastric and nasogastric tubes Form created 08.18.2009 Revised 9/10/2012 Page 3 of 6
