MBA Program Master of Business Administration

Overview The goal of the Montclair State University MBA program is to ensure that our graduates have the skills and knowledge needed to be effective managers and leaders in an increasingly complex and competitive global economy. Montclair State alumni are well-rounded, self-motivated and employed by many of the best companies in the region. Equipped with an education built upon standards of excellence, our alumni enjoy tremendous opportunities for rich and rewarding careers. The School of Business invites applications from persons with baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate degrees. Because we actively seek a diverse student body, all previous academic majors are considered for admission.

Why the Montclair State MBA? Montclair State University is New Jersey s second largest university, with over 16,000 students in its undergraduate, master s and doctoral degree programs. It ranks as one of the top institutions in the region. The School of Business at Montclair State is accredited by AACSB International, the top standard for college-level business programs world-wide. Only about one third of the programs in North America hold this prestigious accreditation, a mark of excellence in business education. In 2005, the MBA program celebrated its 25th anniversary, marking a quarter century of transforming students lives through high-quality management education. It now serves more than 340 students on our main campus and through our satellite Saturday-only MBA program. MBA classes are small (usually no more than 25 students), allowing for a high level of interaction with faculty and fellow students. The Montclair State MBA is designed to meet the needs of working professionals. All MBA courses meet for a single 2-1/2 hour session each week, either on a weeknight (Monday- Thursday) from 7-9:30 p.m., or on Saturday. We also offer an accelerated two-year program of Saturday-only classes, held on the Lincroft campus of Brookdale Community College, in Monmouth County.

The Montclair State University Advantage Unique Environment The MBA program at Montclair State University integrates excellent faculty, talented students, dedicated staff and successful alumni to form a team-oriented and supportive community. The small size of MBA classes ensures that each individual has the opportunity to get involved and shape his or her MBA experience. Many seminar-style classes enhance the learning experience. Students cite the friendly, informal atmosphere as a major strength of the MBA program, facilitating both learning and networking. At the same time, our MBA students benefit from the resources and the facilities of Montclair State University, a comprehensive learning and research environment. A Quality Education Our AACSB-accredited MBA degree prepares you for today s global business environment by providing a framework of comprehensive functional skills and managerial knowledge, as well as innovative advanced courses that help students develop a specialized, in-depth understanding. What you learn can be immediately put to work on the job. Excellent Value The quality of the educational experience in our MBA program, and the contacts you make, combine with our highly competitive tuition to provide excellent value to our students. Teaching Gets Equal Billing With Research Our full-time Ph.D. faculty of the School of Business teach 90% of the Montclair State MBA classes. In addition, many have extensive business expertise. Their consulting and research experiences come with them into the MBA classroom. The small percentage of professors in the MBA program who are not full-time School of Business faculty are business practitioners with extensive applied knowledge in the professional areas in which they teach. Flexible and Convenient Scheduling As a student in our MBA program, you will appreciate the flexible combination of evening, Saturday and summer classes, conveniently scheduled so that working professionals can take all our courses without significantly altering their job schedules. Our students also have independent study options. Learn About Leadership You can interact with distinguished business leaders of major corporations through our Executive Perspectives course. The speakers in this executive series bring major news from the boardroom, reveal the realities behind senior management decisions and discuss their own careers with you.

Admission Requirements To apply, see www.montclair.edu/graduate There is no admission deadline: applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. But applicants should note that only one cohort starts each year in the Saturday-only MBA program, usually in late February. Apply well in advance of your preferred start date, to ensure a comprehensive review of your application. You apply to the MBA program through Graduate Admissions. An application includes: An earned bachelor s degree from a regionally-accredited college or university One official copy of the academic transcript from each college and/or university attended GMAT scores A personal statement Two letters of recommendation The application fee International students also must submit: TOEFL scores A course-by-course evaluation from World Educational Services (WES) of your degree transcript, if from a non-u.s. university

Frequently Asked Questions Are there any prerequisites for the MBA? The only prerequisite is an undergraduate course in calculus. If you didn t take calculus as an undergraduate, you may apply and be accepted to the Montclair State MBA program on a deferred or conditional basis, taking the required calculus course before you enroll in the basic MBA courses for which it is a prerequisite. Is work experience required? Work experience is not required for acceptance into the MBA program. However, work experience is considered in the admissions decision, and most Montclair MBA students have worked full time for 2-6 years before applying to the program. Is the GMAT required, and if so, what is the minimum score? Under what circumstances can the test be waived? The GMAT is an MBA requirement (the GRE cannot be substituted). You can begin an application portfolio before taking the GMAT, but all your credentials must be received before your application can be reviewed for admission. Although we look for GMAT scores of 500 or better, if your other credentials meet our standards, there is no fixed score that will prevent a review of your application. The Montclair State MBA program uses an AACSB scoring system to weigh academic performance. To calculate this, multiply your undergraduate GPA by 200, and then add your GMAT score. If the total is between 1100 and 1200, your GMAT score should be acceptable, if your other credentials are also strong. If the total is below 1100, your other credentials, such as work experience, may be particularly important in the admissions decision. Does your program have mostly full-time or part-time students? About 80% of our students are fully employed professionals and attend the University on a part-time basis. By sharing their work expertise with classmates and faculty, they greatly strengthen and enrich the MBA program. I plan to be a part-time MBA student. How many years do I have to complete the degree? A student has eight years to complete the MBA program, although most part-time students complete in less than four years. If you need to interrupt your studies for personal or professional reasons, a leave of absence can be granted for up to two years, and the leave time does not count against the degree time limit. Please visit our Web site for answers to more frequently asked questions: www.montclair.edu/mba. The GMAT may be waived only for applicants who submit proof of the following to Graduate Admissions: An earned terminal degree (Ph.D., M.D., or J.D.) in any discipline; or An earned M.S. degree with a significant quantitative component (e.g. in a discipline such as math, engineering, computer science, statistics), from an accredited U.S. college or university.
