Consequences of not meeting the need. There will be an increase in: teen pregnancies unplanned and unwanted children abortions People will be ignorant about the risk of abortion. Starting in middle school Classes will be taught 2-3 times per week Make the public aware about abortion risks and the need for birth control Through public relations, articles, and brochures. Educate parents about birth control and risks of abortion. Provide a workshop at back to school night Supply guest speakers at events where parents attend Encourage parents to be more open with teens Digital Bridge Academy - Fall 2006 26

1: Educate about birth control and the risks of having an abortion. Educate youth about abortion 2-3 times per week for at least an hour. Teach about other options to abortion: adoption, temporary custody, open adoption, and keeping the child. Before the class begins a questionnaire will be distributed assessing their knowledge about abortion risks and birth control. Digital Bridge Academy - Fall 2006 27 2: Increase public awareness Help the public become aware of these issues through public relations, articles, and brochures Provide brochures to help people learn more about abstinence, birth control, and abortion. Provided outside of stores schools, libraries, colleges, youth centers, clinics, parks and hospitals. Create articles about women s experience with abortion and the unintended consequences. 3: Parents need to be open and talk with their children. Invite parents to a back to school night workshop about sex, birth control, abortion and how to discuss with their children. Goals of Solution Decrease in: teen pregnancies unplanned and unwanted children abortions Teens will be educated about birth control, the options, where it is available and the correct ways to use it Teens will be aware of the risks that come with abortions Help parents to be open minded to discuss sex, birth control, abstinence and abortion with their teens. Help the family to communicate better and teens to feel comfortable talking with their parents about these issues. Educated parents about sex education. Have educated teens and parents knowing about the risks and other options besides abortion. -37% don t know the risks of having and abortion. -63% know the risk of having an abortion. Encouraging teens who have sex to use birth control and know the risks of abortion.
