Overview and Start-up Activities Background- AEL Program Research on Best Practices Interviews (Students, Administrators, Faculty, Staff) Target Audience for Recruitment and Instruction YEAR One Activities YEAR TWO Growth

Model 1: FastTrack to College Year One: Research Class Design: length, content, recruitment Stand-alone transition-to-college class 3 weeks, part-time College and personal readiness Academic Instruction (Texas Success Initiative Preparation)

What our cohort #1 taught us: Customer feedback: This was a necessary offering. Students were deeply under-prepared for college. Passing the GED did not mean they were academically ready for college. We needed more class time.

FastTrack to College: Lessons We Learned Cohort 1 3-week course, 48 hours Successes: Positive student feedback Positive teacher feedback Entrance to college Challenges: Not enough time Low TSI passing rates Low TABE progress rates

FastTrack to College: Lessons We Learned Cohort 2 10-week course, 70 hours Successes: Students passed the TSI College entrance Challenges: Low enrollment Retention Many students bypassed this class from our GED classes because of time of year

FastTrack to College: Lessons We Learned Cohort 3 Spring: GED to College Academy Summer: FastTrack to College, 10-week course in the summer

Model 2: On-ramp for Integrated Education and Training Contextualized GED for CNAs Transition Course supplement Certified Nurse Aide IET Course (with concurrent AEL)

Transitions for Career Pathway students Goal: Prepare students for success in CNA training and employment. Contextualized GED for CNAs: GED preparation contextualized to Certified Nurse Aide curriculum (College Continuing Education) Transition instruction Transition Course supplement: Study skills Soft skills for professional CNAs (local employers) Job search skills and strategies (Goodwill)
