Rimage Producer and Professional Windows OS Guide/FAQs For Rimage end users February 2014 Why has Rimage changed to running Windows 7 on Rimage Systems? Is Windows XP Pro outdated? Microsoft periodically releases new operating system (OS) versions and eventually stops supporting old ones. Microsoft has announced the Windows XP Pro OS end of support date is April 8, 2014 and many corporate users are migrating their business platforms to Windows 7. After this date, Windows XP Pro will no longer be a supported operating system from the technical support umbrella of Microsoft. Rimage migrates its operating system support to maintain pace with the current Windows OS versions available and supported. For this reason, Rimage began shipping Windows 7 on its embedded systems in Q1/2012. Rimage systems that originally shipped with Windows XP Pro actually shipped with a variant of Windows named Windows XP Pro Embedded. Windows XP Pro Embedded has the same end of support date that as the standard Windows XP Pro product, April 8, 2014. So what does all this mean to me? Rimage will continue to provide Service and Support for embedded Rimage products utilizing the Windows XP Pro Embedded OS as part of the original system purchase. You will not experience any change to your Rimage maintenance agreement support for the near future. If there is a problem stemming directly from the Windows XP Pro Embedded OS, Microsoft will not provide support or fixes. What version of Windows 7 ships on my Rimage System? Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit). I would like to run Windows 8.0 or 8.1 on my Rimage System. Is that available on Rimage embedded systems? Windows 8.0 and 8.1 are not supported on Rimage embedded systems. Windows 8.0 and 8.1 operating systems are supported on client computers and computers for non-embedded Rimage systems running Rimage Software Suite. I would like to run Windows Server 2008. Is that available on Rimage embedded systems? Yes, if you want Server 2008 on a system you must select the disc publisher part number that includes Server 2008. 03-2014

What version of Windows Server 2008 will I get? If you re ordering Server 2008, the specific version will be Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. This version only provides support for English within the operating system. The Rimage Disc Publisher software can still be localized to the standard languages Rimage supports. Can you put all this OS information in a table for easy reference? Yes, you can find it here: http://www.qumu.com/products/rimage-disc-publishing/windows-7 I have a Rimage system. Can I convert it from Windows XP Pro to Windows 7? If you have a system with an Everest printer, please read the Everest section below. If you have a system with a Prism printer, skip to the Prism section further below. Everest Printer FAQ I purchased a Rimage Everest system (Professional 5400N, Producer 6100N, 7100N, or 8100N) before Windows 7 systems were released. Can I convert it to Windows 7? If you have a Rimage maintenance agreement (hardware or software) and your system qualifies, you can get the conversion software at no additional charge through Rimage Services. If your system qualifies, but you do not have a maintenance agreement, you will need to purchase an agreement in order to get the Windows 7 OS conversion software package. Contact Rimage for details and pricing. How do I know if my system qualifies for a conversion to Windows 7? Systems that contain a Q45 motherboard are able to convert to Windows 7. How do I know if I have a Q45 motherboard? Opening Rimage System Manager, or Web RSM, you will find the information displayed below on the main landing page. In the case of System One below, the 7100N, you see Q45 in the description to the right of Board: below. That system is capable of running Windows 7. In the case of System Two below, the 8100N, you do not see Q45 and instead see Q965 so that system is not able to run Windows 7.

You will receive a complete set of illustrated instructions and a torx driver with your conversion kit. What follows is a quick summary of the steps involved. Producer III: You must remove the embedded CPU module with the provided torx driver and apply the Microsoft certificate of authenticity sticker to the front of the CPU module. 5400N: You must apply the Microsoft certificate of authenticity sticker inside the front of the system, which is easily accessed by opening the front door no tools required. Next, run the recovery disc to install Windows 7 and the RSS software. Operating System Activation: You will need to type in the software license codes provided on the packaging and activate your operating system with Microsoft using one of two methods. 1. For systems with an active internet connection: During the conversion process, the Rimage System will prompt you to contact Microsoft over your internet connection and activate the installation. 2. For systems without an internet connection: During the conversion process you will be prompted to activate the installation by telephone. The sticker placement and the activation process MUST be followed or you will be in violation of your Microsoft agreement AND we will be unable to Rapid Exchange your CPU or system going forward. Finally, each time you run your recovery software in the future, you will need to type in the license key and go through the activation process by internet or telephone.

What will change if I convert my system from Windows XP Pro to Windows 7? Your Rimage software, which includes QuickDisc, CD Designer, and System Manager, will not change in function or appearance. When you interact with the operating system, which will now be Windows 7 instead of Windows XP Pro, you will see some changes; the functionality will be the same but the look and feel will be different. Should I convert my system from Windows XP to Windows 7? You will not see any functional differences between a Rimage Windows XP Pro system and a Rimage Windows 7 system. Many of our end user customers who are interested in converting existing systems from Windows XP Pro to Windows 7 are under corporate mandates that dictate that all computer systems in that company, or on the corporate network, must run Windows 7. I purchased a Rimage (Professional 5400N, Producer 6100N, Producer 7100N, or Producer 8100N) before Windows Server 2008 systems were released. Can I convert to Windows Server 2008? Server 2008 conversion kits are not available at this time from Rimage. I have or will purchase a non-embedded system. Can I run Windows 7 and/ or Server 2008? Non-embedded systems (2000i and 3400) were qualified with Windows 7 in July of 2011. Nonembedded 3400 systems support Server 2008 running on external control centers. The 2000i external control centers do not support Server 2008. How will Rapid Exchange work now that the installed base of Rimage systems will be running Windows XP Pro and Windows 7? When an update is purchased, Rimage updates our system equipment records to indicate a Rimage Maintenance customer configuration change. We will stock our Rapid Exchange inventory of disc publishers with both Windows XP Pro and Windows 7 systems. End users exchanging a Windows 7 system will get a Windows 7 system back and end users exchanging a Windows XP Pro system will get a Windows XP Pro system. Rimage continually monitors our Rapid Exchange customer base and service history to ensure we provide the correct Rapid Exchange system. I currently own a Rimage 5300N/5100N or Producer II system. Can I run Windows 7? Unfortunately, the embedded computer modules in those systems are not compatible with Windows 7. Please contact Rimage Inside Sales to inquire about refresh options.

I currently own a Rimage system with an Everest III. Can I run Windows 7? Unfortunately, Everest III printers are not compatible with Windows 7. If your system has a Q45 motherboard, and is on Rimage maintenance as noted earlier in this document; contact Rimage Inside Sales to inquire about upgrading to an Everest 600 printer. Prism Printer FAQ I purchased a Rimage PrismPlus! system (Producer 6100N, 7100N, or 8100N) before Windows 7 systems were released. Can I convert it to Windows 7? You will need to upgrade to a Rimage Prism III printer and have a qualified Rimage system. If you have a Rimage maintenance agreement (hardware or software) and your system qualifies, you can receive the conversion software at no additional charge through Rimage Services. If your system qualifies, but you do not have a maintenance agreement, you will need to purchase an agreement in order to get the Windows 7 conversion software package. Contact Rimage for pricing. Can I upgrade my PrismPlus! to a Prism III on my Producer III system so that I can use Windows 7? A PrismPlus! can t be upgraded or adapted or changed into a Prism III. In order to make the Prism compatible with Windows 7 we had to make so many changes to the printer that upgrades are not possible. Microsoft requires that only Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) signed device drivers be installed on Windows 7 64 bit operating systems. As a Microsoft OEM, Rimage must follow these requirements. WHQL stipulates that peripheral devices pass a set of automated software tests from the Universal Serial Device Implementers Forum (USBIF) and Microsoft. These tests ensure that the peripherals comply with the USBIF and Microsoft requirements for USB Printer Class devices. The Rimage PrismPlus! disc printer does not fully support Windows Plug and Play (PNP) and does not conform to the USB Printer Class Specification. The PrismPlus! design is more than 10 years old in some respects and several components have reached end of production. We could not make the needed changes to the PrismPlus! printer without a redesign of many significant components. Can I convert my PrismPlus! to a Prism III on my Producer III system so that I can use Windows 7? Please contact your Rimage Value-Added Reseller or Rimage Inside Sales with any questions about these options and to obtain pricing.
