Buddhist monk Mathieu Ricard, the Dalai Lama s official interpreter, has described Régis Colombo s pictures as, a tribute to the inner beauty of people and the sparkling light of places. Kaleidoscope world! Régis Colombo s photo collages imprint the magic of travel on the memory with the power of a multicoloured flashbulb Contacts Régis Colombo Rue du Valentin 34, 1004 Lausanne Switzerlande Tel +41 21 312 19 00 rc@regiscolombo.com www.regiscolombo.com Transparencies, a report from the photographer s imaginary world The images from the Transparencies series borrow both from traditional imagery and from the very modern photographic process of digital fusion. Régis Colombo s compositions are indebted to photojournalism - with moments of eternity captured by the photographer - as well as to daydreams - in which the traveller s good and bad memories get mixed up - and recreate the quintessence of the places he has visited: New York, Dubai, Paris, London and Kiev! The dozens of images assembled into large pixel frescoes always have more than one story to tell. Seen from a distance, they draw the eye, hypnotise it like a neon light, and then imprint themselves upon the memory with all the power of a flashbulb. From up close, they reveal an infinite number of small anecdotes, curiosities glimpsed, deliberately provocative winks and smiles. Colombo s images are different each time you immerse your gaze in them, they transport those who linger over them to the ends of the Earth, at the same time giving them the most fabulous of all freedoms offered by travel, the freedom of imagination.
press kit Régis Colombo - a painter in pixels Swiss photographer Régis Colombo has made a name for himself both in his own country and abroad through his portraits, advertising work, landscapes and above all, through the long journeys he has been documenting for over twenty years now. This backpacker has taken snapshots all over the world, traveling through Asia, Africa and both North and South America -to forty or so countries in allgiving preference to paths which no telephoto lens has seen before. Because of his indefatigably curious eye -sensitive to even the slightest variation in the light, demanding nothing less than technical perfection- Colombo is always on the lookout for photographic discoveries which concentrate nuances, vibrations and moments of magic beyond words. Ever since he began work on his Transparencies series five years ago, Colombo has been edging closer to an ideal of the perfect image, one which contains all others, all sensations, all emotions. Collages full of violently expressionistic colours -here the computer mouse is handled with the same freedom as a brush on canvas- these genre scenes are reminiscent of an electronic Jérôme Bosch, they are the digital heirs to pop art. Indeed, Colombo s photographs make constant allusions to painting. The artist was in fact a painter long before he became a photographer, which is why his impressionistic Transparencies transcend the photographic image and enrich the viewer s Transparencies

«Régis Colombo dilue les couleurs et la mémoire du temps comme une photographie exposée au soleil. Il nous invite ainsi à voir le dedans du dehors comme il se plaît à le souligner. Il n en a pas pour autant oublié ses réflexes de reporter et a tenu à immortaliser sa vision de l éternité pour ouvrir une fenêtre afin qu entre la lumière.» Antoine Blanc Régis Colombo dilutes colours and the memory of time like a photograph exposed to the sun. He thus makes us see the inside from the outside as he likes to stress. Nonetheless, he has not forgotten his reporter reflexes and wished to document his vision of eternity to open a window to let the light in. Antoine Blanc
