3.1 COMMUNICATING INFORMATION 3.1.1 Writing sentences to form short paragraphs enhanced by pictures 3.1.2 Using different font styles and sizes for emphasis: Bold Italic Underlined Writing letters in the Reading Development Library series. Changing font type and font size in Kid Pix Studio Deluxe s Paint a Picture projects (using the text boxes in the Typewriter tool); and in Print Shop Ensemble III, using headings and text boxes. 3.2 HANDLING INFORMATION 3.2.1 Using pictures to record and present information In Maths learners can use Kid Pix to create block graphs and pictograms with the help of the Line and Rectangle tools and the Rubber Stamps. 25

3.3 ICT MANAGEMENT 3.3.1 Managing the computer software including: Using more items in pull-down menus 3.3.2 Managing computer files, including: Opening, saving, printing, closing files Entering, copying, cutting, pasting, inserting and deleting text, images and sound For example, Pick a Picture, in the Goodies menu. Using Print Shop for creating simple projects like cards, banners and posters. Saving their own projects in Kid Pix, Print Shop and Thinkin Things 1 (BLOX Flying spheres and shapes) Cutting and pasting through the Edit menu and the Moving Van Magnet option in Kid Pix. Copying and pasting objects in Print Shop. 26

3.4 ICT EVALUATING 3.4.1 Being able to describe interactions with computer software 3.4.2 Being able to explain how to use the computer to present ideas and information 3.4.3 Being able to explain how to solve problem tasks presented by the software. 3.4.4 Being able to talk about encounters with various forms of communications technology at home. Teachers can organise sessions to stimulate discussions between learners where they can relate their own experiences using the computer. Example: Describe how a particular problem is solved in activities in Thinkin Things and Maths Workshop. During whole-class follow-up sessions, learners may be encouraged to present their solutions to peers. Awareness of types of communication instruments including the mobile phone, radio and television, compact discs and DVD players. 3.5 CONTROLLING None in Year 3 To be introduced in a later year group. 3.6 MODELLING None in Year 3 To be introduced in a later year group. 27
