Meetings September 9 October 14 November 18 December 9 February 10 March 10 April 14 May 12 The Graduate Studies Committee (GSC) met eight times during the 2014-2015 academic year (specific dates listed above). Committee members participated in program reviews for the following departments: Assistive Technology Engineering, Assistive Technology Studies and Human Services, Cinema and Television Arts, Computer Science and Software Engineering, Family and Consumer Sciences, Humanities, Linguistics and TESL. This year the committee reviewed and approved curriculum from eight academic colleges, which included new programs: concentrations in Entrepreneurship, Human Resources and Sustainability for the Masters in Business Administration program, M.S. in Finance, General Education Induction Credential for Multiple and Single Subject, option in Entrepreneurship and Innovation for the M.S. Engineering Management, option in Applied Epidemiology for the M.P.H. program, and M.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis. The committee also approved two new certificate programs: Graduate Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management for Engineering Professionals and Certificate of Preparation for Advanced Studies in Communication Disorders and Sciences. The GSC moved to approve the CSUN Syllabus policy. The Educational Policies Committee and the Graduate Studies Committee chose to have a single syllabus policy for all classes (both graduate and undergraduate). The policy was passed by the Faculty Senate and approved by President Harrison on March 17, 2015. The GSC formed a subcommittee to revise the culminating experience descriptions in the University Catalog. Beverly Cabello, Lesley Krane, Beth Halaas, Rick Moore, Maggie Shiffrar, Mary-Pat Stein and Andrew Weiss volunteered to serve on the subcommittee. The subcommittee created a survey for graduate coordinators to complete, describing their program s culminating experience. The GSC members contacted their assigned graduate coordinators to ensure that the program s information was correctly and accurately reflected. The committee will review the data to revise the Culminating Experience language in the Catalog. Jack Solomon, Director of Academic Assessment and Program Review informed the GSC that WASC and the CSU Chancellor s Office have now turned their attention to graduate assessment. He stated that WASC is requiring Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILO) across the campus for graduate programs. Solomon suggested the GSC create campus-wide ILOs for all graduate programs. He recommended the committee review the Geological Sciences 2

catalog webpage as an excellent example of well developed and assessable Program Learning Outcomes and Student Learning Outcomes. The committee will review the Geological Sciences catalog webpage as well as contact Social Work, Business, Education and Physical Therapy for examples of assessment models that have passed accreditation.
