RSS6-T RF Channel & Broadband Automatic Switching Station info@tekronsystems.com www.tekronsystems.com 1/7

INTRODUCTION The RSS6-T is designed for the redundancy of analog and QAM RF channels, as well as CATV Broadband feeds in Headend and Hub sites. The RSS automatic switching station incorporates six (6) independent A/B switches. Each switch module monitors independently the main & backup input feeds for its automatic switching operation and for remote status monitoring & alarming over TCP/IP Networks. The RSS6-T automatic switch covers a wide input RF level range and incorporates front panel Threshold adjustment for each input being monitored. It can be used to monitor feeds before or after Broadband amplifiers, after Fiber receiver, or monitor a single TV channel or QAM channel in the 5 MHz to 1GHz CATV Band. Because it continuously monitor the main and backup inputs, it will only switch to the backup input feed when the RF level of that input is present and above its threshold setting. The RSS6-T incorporates front-panel switch override capability as well as indication of switch position & level status. An Ethernet/IP port is available for remote monitoring, alarm and control of the RSS station via SNMP protocol & Web-page. A serial port is also available for connection to modem for dial-up DTMF-tone (phone) switch control in emergency situations. The remote control of the switch overrides in this case, the RSS switch automatic operation as well as the front panel toggle switch. Optional back-chassis terminal connections are also available for local/remote monitoring and switch control via contact closure. Other RSS models are also offered for automatic switching applications in the Headend and remote Hub sites for the redundancy of: Analog & Digital video/audio channels DVB-ASI & SDI Digital TV Channel feeds Split-Band RF-Broadband feeds RF Broadband feeds L-Band (LNB) Broadband feeds Tekron Communication is specialized and offers solutions to Remote Site Switching Monitoring & Remote Control (SMC) applications in CATV Headend/Hub sites and Broadcast transmission sites. A short list of available models can be found on the last page. 2/7

INPUT SWITCH OPTIONS: RF sensing & Threshold switch adjustment: Front panel fine adjustment available to set the level at which each module automatically switches. The threshold level of the main and the backup inputs are separately adjusted. Fail-safe during power loss: On power loss, the switches in the RSS6-T will switch back or remain switched in the main input to pass it without service interruption. Disabling switch back to main input: In normal condition, the sensing mechanism automatically switches to the back-up input when the main input drops to a level to a critical pre-set (threshold) level and returns to the main input when level of the main input is restored, with a built-in Hysteresis between switchover and switch back. Automatic switch back to the main input of each switch module can however be remotely disabled over the Network from the Web-page or via SNMP. This is intended to prevent excessive switching when an intermittent problem is encountered, to allow technical staff to investigate the cause of the problem before returning the switch (front-panel, remotely over IP or over dial-up) back to its normal automatic operation. Ignore input-b status during automatic switching: Each of the six (6) switches can be set separately remotely (over IP from Web-page & SNMP, or over dial-up) to disable effect of input-b status on automatic switching. In this case, input continues to be monitored to indicate its status and send (SNMP & email) alarms on drop of level below Threshold. IN normal operation when input-b is in alarm condition, it prevents the switch from automatically switching to this backup input. Manual Control: A front panel 3-way toggle switch allows the technical staff at the Headend to disable the switch automatic operation and select the main or backup input. LED status indicators will show if the unit is in manual or automatic mode and whether it is in the main default or backup position. Remote Control: TCP//IP and RS-232 ports are available at the back for remote override and control of each of the six (6) switch modules housed in the chassis. OUTPUT CONTROL OPTIONS: Local Status Monitoring: Front panel LED are available to indicate status of the main & backup inputs, switch position and if switch is in automatic or override mode. Remote Monitoring & Alarm: An Integrated Ethernet/IP port is available for: - Status monitoring & switch control from the Web-page using Web-Browser. - Alarm, Status monitoring and switch control via SNMP protocol. - Alarm via email text-alert messaging. - Switch control over a dial-up line and Ethernet Network. Remote dialup & IP access can also disable/enable automatic return & ignore input-b. OPTIONS: Switch delay: Fixed (2-second) delay before switching can be factory set, with internal jumper setting to disable or enable it. U.P.S.: An optional (18-24 volt) AC/DC input socket can be provided as backup to maintain unit operational during main AC-power failure. NEG power supply: The RSS6-T can be supplied with NEG 48V DC internal supply. 3/7
