We ve Written the Blueprint for the Decen The Product Orenco s AdvanTex Treatment Systems utilizing the commercial-sized AX100 can make raw wastewater up to 98% cleaner, meeting stringent regulatory requirements. It can also reduce nitrogen signifi cantly, depending on infl uent and confi guration. And the AX100 offers all the benefi ts of Orenco s residential-sized AdvanTex Treatment Systems: Consistent, reliable treatment, even under peak fl ows Compact package, small footprint, for small sites Premanufactured package, including textile medium, for quality control Low maintenance requirements; low life-cycle costs Production of clear, odorless effl uent that s ideal for reuse The Program It takes more than a product, however, to solve onsite wastewater problems. It takes a comprehensive program one that ensures a successful project every time and provides support for the life of the system. That s what Orenco Systems has done. We ve engineered a program, not just a product. Orenco s commercial AdvanTex program includes Trained and authorized Dealers, Installers, and Service Providers Training and plans review for Designers A comprehensive project checklist for successful system design, installation, start-up, and follow-up Round-the-clock system supervision via Orenco s remote telemetry controls A commitment to ongoing O&M, signed by system owners Web-based tracking of site and performance data on Dealer extranet Ongoing manufacturer support through Orenco s Engineering Department AX100 fi lter pods can be installed above ground or partially bermed, depending upon site conditions. * NOTE: Covered by U.S. patent numbers 6,540,920; 6,372,137; 5,980,748; 5,531,894; 5,492,635; 5,480,561; 5,360,556; 4,439,323

ntralized Wastewater Treatment Industry Decades of Research, Thousands of Installations Orenco s patented* AdvanTex Treatment System is a recirculating fi lter that s confi gured like a recirculating sand fi lter a packed bed fi lter technology that Orenco engineers have helped to perfect since the 1970s. Like recirculating sand fi lters, AdvanTex is reliable and low-maintenance. It is superior to other packed bed fi lters, however, in its serviceability and longevity. It is also superior in its treatment media. AdvanTex uses a highly effi cient, lightweight textile that has a large surface area, lots of void space, and a high degree of water-holding capacity. Consequently, AdvanTex Treatment Systems can provide treatment equivalent to that of sand fi lters at loading rates as high as 25-50 gpd/ft 2 (1000-2000 L/d/m 2 ). That means AdvanTex can treat high volume commercial and multi-family fl ows in a very compact space. Our textile-based, multi-pass treatment technology has undergone third-party testing and evaluation to ANSI Standards. About 10,000 residential-sized AdvanTex fi lters have been installed since 2000. And about 1,000 of our new, commercial-sized AX100 units are now in operation, including the installations described on the back page. Textile Media The treatment medium is a uniform, engineered textile, which is easily serviceable and allows loading rates as high as 50 gpd/ft 2 (2000 L/d/m 2 ). Spray Nozzles Effi cient distribution is accomplished via specially-designed spray nozzles. Laterals and Lids Isolation valves, fl ushing valves, and hinged lids with gas springs allow easy access and servicing by a single operator. Telemetry Controls Orenco s telemetry-enabled control panels use a dedicated phone line and ensure round-theclock system supervision and real-time, remote control.

AdvanTex AX100 Treatment Systems Carefully Engineered by Orenco Orenco Systems has been researching, designing, manufacturing, and selling leading-edge products for small-scale wastewater treatment systems since 1981. The company has grown to become an industry leader, with about 275 employees and with more than 100 distributors and dealers representing most of the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and parts of Europe. Our systems have been installed all over the world. Orenco maintains an environmental lab and employs more than a dozen civil, electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers, as well as wastewater treatment operators. Orenco s systems are based on sound scientifi c principles of chemistry, biology, mechanical structure, and hydraulics. As a result, our research appears in numerous publications and our engineers are regularly asked to give workshops and offer trainings. Oregon Riverside Community Twelve AX100s are providing advanced secondary wastewater treatment in Hebo, Oregon, for a small community collection system that discharges directly into Three Rivers, after UV disinfection. The average annual design fl ow is 17,000 gpd (64,400 L/d) with a peak daily design fl ow of 80,000 gpd (303,000 L/d) to account for I&I contributions from the collection system. Effl uent BOD 5 and TSS are averaging 4.4 and 4.5 mg/l, respectively. Malibu, California Restaurant Ten AX100s at the top of a Malibu bluff are treating high-strength waste from a large (200+ seat) beachfront restaurant, 100 feet (30 m) below. This high-visibility tourist destination requires reliable, odor-free operation. Effl uent sampling indicates excellent treatment, including nitrogen reduction. At an adjacent housing development, another system, consisting of 20 AX100s capable of treating up to 60,000 gpd (227,000 L/d) peak fl ows, is under construction. Mobile, Alabama Utility-Managed Subdivisions South Alabama Utilities (SAU) in Mobile County, Alabama, has become the subject of nationwide classes, presentations, and tours because of its ambitious and innovative solution for serving 2,500 new customers in nearly 30 new subdivisions and commercial properties northwest of Mobile. How? By installing 18 miles (29 km) of interconnected Orenco Effl uent Champion Hills is one of the many subdivisions in rural Mobile County served by Orenco s effl uent sewers and treatment systems. Sewers that, by full build-out, will be followed by 100 AdvanTex AX100s to treat half a million gpd (1.9 million L/d) of effl uent, at better than 10 mg/l. Under SAU s program, developers, builders, homeowners, and the utility all share the cost of extending wastewater infrastructure. With nearly 200 dwelling units currently on line and treatment for 230,000 gpd (871,000 L/d), total costs are averaging about $8,000 per home (for infrastructure, tanks, STEP systems, and treatment)... roughly half the cost of conventional sewers. Environmental Profile AdvanTex Wastewater Treatment Systems - Manufactured by Orenco Systems, Inc. Background Product Onsite Treatment & Dispersal Energy Efficiency & Sustainability Many designers, builders, and homeowners want to choose products for residential and commercial construction that reduce their projects impact on the environment. Wastewater treatment products are no exception. The need for environmentally sound wastewater treatment products is especially great on environmentally sensitive building sites, small sites, isolated sites, sites with high groundwater, and sites with inadequate infrastructure. Orenco s AdvanTex Treatment Systems are an environmentally sustainable wastewater treatment technology for both residential and commercial applications. Orenco s AdvanTex Treatment System is a compact, pre-packaged product for onsite treatment of wastewater to very high ( advanced ) treatment levels. Excellent treatment: AdvanTex Treatment Systems consistently achieve effl uent quality equal to or better than that provided by municipal treatment plants. (AdvanTex effl uent averages 5 mg/l or less BOD and TSS when loaded at the same hydraulic loading rate used during NSF Standard 40 testing.) The effl uent is ideal for further treatment for nonpotable re-use. Water conservation: Onsite treatment and dispersal allows for subsurface irrigation and reuse applications. It also recharges the local aquifer, replenishing water resources. Energy effi ciency: Pumps that recirculate effl uent to AdvanTex AX20 Residential Treatment Systems rarely exceed 1/2 hp and only run about 30 minutes per day. Pumps for AdvanTex AX100 Commercial Treatment Systems rarely exceed 1 hp. Consequently, power usage for treatment is very low, especially compared with power usage for blowers in suspended-growth treatment systems. Long pump life: The pumps used in AdvanTex Treatment Systems have an expected life of 20-30 years, far longer than other pumps, especially grinder pumps. Orenco s pumps can be easily disassembled and have a repairable liquid end, making total pump replacement unnecessary in most cases. Each Commercial-sized AdvanTex AX100 Treatment System can treat 5,000 gpd of domestic strength wastewater to advanced standards, using only 3 kwh of electricity per 1,000 gallons. Health and Safety Installation Impacts on the Environment Groundwater safety: AdvanTex Treatment System packages incorporate strong, durable, watertight equipment that prevents wastewater from leaking and surfacing, which can pollute groundwater. AdvanTex Treatment Systems are especially safe for areas with high water tables. Nitrogen reduction: Multiple tests have shown that AdvanTex wastewater treatment reduces nitrogen by 60-70% under real-world conditions. Minimal site impact: The residential AdvanTex AX20 system can usually be installed with a backhoe, eliminating the need for cranes or other heavy equipment that can disturb the building site. Modular construction: For the commercial designer and builder, the modular nature of AdvanTex AX100 treatment pods allows large projects to add treatment capacity as needed and avoid oversized, unneeded infrastructure. This approach to wastewater treatment saves economic resources and limits the environmental impact of installation. LEED Profile AdvanTex Wastewater Treatment Systems Background Energy & Atmosphere Water Efficiency Sustainable Sites Innovation & Design The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Certifi cation (GBC) for new building and major renovation is an important accreditation for today s environmentally aware engineers, designers and builders. With increasing interest in environmental sustainability and effi ciency, more builders and renovators are seeking LEED Certifi cation for their projects. Orenco s AdvanTex Treatment Systems can help you gain LEED GBC. EA Credit 1: Optimized Energy Performance: Pumps that circulate effl uent to AdvanTex Treatment Systems rarely exceed 1hp and run for just minutes per day, using far less energy than aerobic blowers. EA Credit 2: On-site Renewable Energy: Off-grid solar panels have been used to power Orenco s low-horsepower (1/2 hp) recirculation pumps, like the ones used at the LEED-Platinum-certifi ed Audubon Education Center at Debs Park, in Los Angeles. WE Credit 1: Water Effi cient Landscaping: Subsurface irrigation using treated effl uent from an AdvanTex Treatment System can reduce the use of potable water for irrigation. WE Credit 2: Innovative Wastewater Technologies: An AdvanTex Treatment System with onsite soil dispersal helps recharge the local aquifer. After tertiary treatment, water from an AdvanTex Treatment System can be reused, saving potable water for other benefi cial uses. SS Prerequisite 1: Construction Activity Pollution Prevention: AdvanTex Treatment System pods are smaller than many wastewater fi ltration systems, so they require smaller equipment to transport and install, which uses less energy. The installation of AdvanTex Treatment System pods also requires minimal digging, so soil disturbance, soil erosion, and dust are reduced. SS Credit 5.2: Maximize Open Space: When combined with a neighborhood collection system, AdvanTex Treatment Systems enable developers to cluster homes more closely together than is possible with typical septic systems. This creates a development footprint that allows for a high ratio of open space to development, which promotes biodiversity. ID Credit 1: Innovation in Design: AdvanTex Treatment Systems can be a key feature in designs exceeding performance standards set by the LEED for New Construction Green Building Rating System, and also in areas of innovative performance not specifi cally addressed by LEED. 2009 Orenco Systems Inc. 800-348-9843 www.orenco.com AHO-FS-ATX-5, Rev. 1.1, 11/09 Page 3 of 4
