MSC PROGRAMME The MSc in Economics and Business Administration is the key element in NHH`s portfolio of programmes. It consists of eight distinctive profiles, of which six are offered for international students: Economics (ECN), Energy, Natural Resources and the Environment (ENE), Finance (FIE), International Business (MIB), Marketing and Brand Management (MBM) and Strategic Management (STR). MAJOR: 6 COURSES MINOR: 4 COURSES ELECTIVES: 2 COURSES OR: ELECTIVES: 6 COURSES THESIS - 45 ECTS - 30 ECTS - 15 ECTS - 45 ECTS - 30 ECTS (1 SEMESTER) MSC IN ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION - 120 ECTS MINOR CONCENTRATIONS You can select a minor from the following fields: Economics Energy, Natural Resources and the Environemnt Finance International Business Marketing and Brand Management Strategic Management 6 7

MARKETING AND BRAND MANAGEMENT The Master in Marketing and Brand Management (MBM) is aimed at students that want to lead and make decisions in the marketing department of a company, including positions such as brand manager, marketing analyst or head of marketing. Building and managing strong brands is fundamentally important to gaining competitive advantage and ensuring long-term profitability for product, services, corporations and organisations. Furthermore, understanding consumer and competitor behaviour is essential to every business and organisation. Brand Management has been an area of expertise at NHH since the beginning of the 1990s. The MBM programme is unique in its ability to kick-start the students marketing career in becoming future leaders in the field of marketing. The specialisation provides students with in-depth and research based knowledge of marketing, consumer behaviour and brand management. CURRICULUM The general course plan in the MBM programme comprises six major courses, six elective courses and a thesis. Two of the major courses are mandatory and may be chosen from a core of five subjects. The remaining four may be selected from the total MBM portfolio. Examples of courses in the MBM programme: Consumer Behaviour Brand Equity and Pricing Managing Corporate Reputation Advertising Economics Product Development and Design Corporate Social Responsibility By selecting four of the six elective courses from within one of the other MSc specialisations, you can build a minor concentration. This gives you an in-depth understanding of a second field in addition to your major. Furthermore, you may strengthen your minor by selecting the two remaining courses from the same field of concentration. The combination of a major and a minor will provide you with a broader knowledge and expertise that will give you an advantage in the job market. INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE DID YOU KNOW THAT... more than 50 per cent of master students at NHH spend a semester abroad on exchange? Instead of a minor concentration, MSc students may opt to go on exchange for one semester. NHH participates in master exchange programmes with more than 130 institutions in over 40 countries. Ambitious students seeking further academic challenges may apply for the Double Degree programme or the CEMS Master s in International Management programme, enabling them to graduate with two internationally recognised diplomas. 8 9

THE DIFFERENCE IS BERGEN AND NORWAY Norway differs slightly from its other industrial counterparts as it was still largely a country of farmers and fishermen until the early 20th century. Today Norway has one of the most developed economies in the world. This is a transformation that has left a deep imprint on Norwegian society. A strong tradition of equality and fairness has fostered a high degree of gender, economic and social equality. Norwegian companies have likewise developed a unique system of management, emphasising employees quality of life through participative management with a concomitant emphasis on innovation, high technology and a concern for the environment. Norway is ranked by the United Nations among the countries with the highest quality of life and standard of living in the world. The Norwegian economy is one of the most international in the world and is dominated by the development of, and trade in, energy and natural resources. Offshore oil and gas, fisheries, aquaculture, and power generation are important areas of research at NHH. Founded in 1070, the city grew around its colourful harbour and has since been a hub of commerce, seafaring and craftsmanship. Located between mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, the city has always looked outwards towards overseas opportunities. Bergen s rich historical legacy is contrasted by a modern city filled with bars and cafés, restaurants and nightclubs, and a very active music scene. At the same time, picturesque fjords, valleys and towering mountains create a magnificent backdrop to Western Norway. A trip in the mountains offers both tranquillity and challenge, and for those among you who are more adventurous, Bergen offers opportunities for paragliding, white-water rafting and rock climbing. Rest assured that whether you follow the cobblestone paths in the midst of North European architecture or the hiking trails up the mountains, your time in Bergen will be spectacular. Surrounded by seven mountains, living in Bergen means living in one of Europe s most naturally majestic but at the same time cosmopolitan cities. JOHN BYRNE, MSc Student from Ireland 22 23
