O U R M I S S I O N Providing hope for the homeless and hurting in our community through services and partnerships with the Christian community. O U R G O A L HOPE South Florida is a holistic Christian response to homelessness that was inspired by the City of Fort Lauderdale leadership s efforts to address the growing numbers of homeless persons frequenting the downtown area and is a first-of-its-kind collaboration of churches. Founding T A B L E O F C O N T E N T S Our goal is to bring about transformation in the lives of the homeless and hurting through the provision of housing solutions and support services, and to serve as a guiding partner in transforming, educating, and bringing the faith community into relationship with those served. 3 The Birth of HOPE: Message from Robin Martin Executive Director Hope South Florida 2 > 5 HOPE Initiatives Build Hope Build Housing Build Community 7 Budget Comparison and Upcoming Projects 9 A Special THANK YOU to Our Supporters 10 HOPE South Florida Leadership and Partners
t h e b i r t h o f H O P E M E S S A G E E X E C U T I V E D I R E C T O R R O B I N M A R T I N Reflecting on what was accomplished in 2010 to bring the Christian community together to rally around the issue of homelessness, leaves me humbled and amazed. Last year marked not only the birth of a collaborative effort amongst the churches in Fort Lauderdale, it truly marked the birth of HOPE in and for our community. For many years prior, there have always been efforts to serve and care for those who are homeless. Churches each provided tangible gifts and partnered with numerous ministries that served the homeless. And The Shepherd's Way and Faith in Action provided housing and support for families. But for the first time in our community churches rallied together to establish a greater vision, a vision of something different than what had been done. A vision of unity in effort. A vision that could inspire and bring HOPE to all. As I reflect on the birth of HOPE South Florida I am reminded that we have only just begun. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of homeless men, women and children in our community. Together, we are HOPE. 4 > C H U R C H N E T W O R K M E M B E R S Boca Community Church Calvary Chapel Ft. H O P E S O U T H F L O R I D A B U I L D H O P E The initial eight churches conducted a launch of the HOPE South Florida (HSF) initiative on August, 22, 2010 involving simultaneous media presentations, pulpit appeals and volunteer sign-ups. Since that time, HSF has sponsored scores of events and coordinated hundreds of hours of volunteer services to assist homeless families and individuals through the faith community. In addition HSF has been successful in securing several first-time awards from governmental sources to expand housing and services for the homeless. Overall, HOPE South Florida housed or served 9,841 families or clients in 2010. (a 215% increase of those housed or served in 2009) Building a place of hope for families in need In partnership with various other faith-based/community-based organizations, Hope Central provides a community one-stop center for families facing housing and economic crisis in their lives. Through partnerships HSF provides homeless services, housing, a food pantry, mass meals, budget counseling, daycare, afterschool care, and spiritual support. Community Food Pantry Budget Counseling Hope Central food pantry is a partnership between local Christian churches, Financial Freedom Christian Counseling and The Shepherd s Way to provide a coordinated food pantry for families in need. In 2010 we were recipients of the United Way s Project Lifeline and received close to 19,000 lbs of food. In 2010 9,236 men, women and children received food and budget counseling. 6 > > First Baptist of Ft. Lauderdale First Presbyterian of Ft. Lauderdale First Christian Church of Ft. Lauderdale Hol lywood Community Church > B U I L D H O P E HOPE South Florida is developing two one-stop multipurpose centers that will provide the necessary support and service to begin the process of recovery for those experiencing homelessness. We are expanding a family center that will provide a connection to housing, food, clothing, case management and a café style drop-in for individuals living on the streets. B U I L D H O U S I N G Housing is a critical factor in ending homelessness, and together we are creatively increasing the available housing for families and individuals. Churches are providing crisis housing within their facilities for families in need. HOPE South Florida is also turning foreclosed homes and apartments into longer term shelters for families. B U I L D C O M M U N I T Y The single common issue that those who are experiencing homelessness share is the lack of community. HOPE South Florida is working with churches and other organizations to engage the Christian community to walk alongside people as they receive housing and support services.

G I V I N G H O P E B O A R D O F D I R E C T O R S C H U R C H A F F I L I A T E S H O P E HOPE South Florida is a faith-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, operating since 1995, that has provided emergency shelter, housing assistance, and support services to thousands of homeless families and individuals throughout Broward County. HOPE South Florida takes financial stewardship very seriously. In 2010, only 7.2% of all donations went to administrative expenses. Words cannot express adequately the extent of our gratitudte for your generosity in meeting the basic needs of homeless families. Through financial gifts, in-kind donations, volunteer hours, and prayer, you make vibrant ministries through HOPE South Florida possible. Without your support HOPE South Florida would not be able to provide for the homeless families in need that is so prevelent especially now. In the coming year we have much to do. With God s love and inspiration we will continue to place homeless families in safe housing / shelters and help them through their transition to independence. We hope you will give in any way possible. This Christmas Holiday an easy way to get involved with HOPE South Florida is through The Little Christmas House Project. Or if your vision is greater we are involved in building and renovating properties for shelters for homeless families and individuals. t h a n k y o u HOPE South Florida would like to thank the many caring and inspired individual donors, corporate and foundation donors; as well as recognize many supporters who have donated through church partners and corporations. We appreciate your support and your prayer.
