OUR PROFILE SAA Global Education The Singapore Accountancy Academy (SAA) was established in 1985, with a vision to service and foster the needs of the accountancy industry. It is the training arm of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore (ICPAS). ICPAS is Singapore s largest and one of the most established professional bodies in Singapore, administering over 23,000 members. In February 2010, as part of the changes made to meet the requirements of the Private Education Regulation 2009, a new division was formed and corporatised, and will operate under the brand name of SAA Global Education (SAA-GE). It continues to be the Training Arm of ICPAS. SAA and now SAA-GE has over 25 years track record as a leading accountancy education provider, attracting and developing talent for the accountancy profession on an international level. There are currently more than 5,000 parttime and full time students studying at SAA-GE, with students from Singapore, Malaysia, China, Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia, the Philippines and other countries in Asia Pacific region. SAA-GE Programmes As the training arm of ICPAS, we ensure that all ICPAS members are kept up to date on technical issues via our Executive seminars. SAA-GE has a history of providing Customised In-house Training programs for government bodies and multinational organisation. SAA-GE has produced several hundred prize winners for the ACCA and CAT programmes in the Singapore and International categories. SAA-GE was the first to offer the ICPAS/ACCA Professional Joint Examination Scheme, and we are the only institution in Singapore to offer the Association of Taxation Technicians Singapore Specialist Certificate in Taxation. As the leading specialist in Accountancy qualifications in 2007 Singapore SAA-GE introduced tuition for the University of London International degree in Accounting and Finance, Banking & Finance, Business and Economics and Management. The range of University of London programmes increased in 2010 with the addition of Accounting with Law, the Bachelor of Laws, and the Diploma in the Common Law, and for 2011 we are offering the Diploma in Economics. We are also pleased to report that as the programme has grown so has the performance of our students with two of our students obtaining 1st class honours in 2010 and that a number of our graduating students have joined the major accounting firms. SAA-GE Facilities Main Campus SAA-GE, together with the secretariat division of ICPAS, is housed in CPA House, at Aljunied Road, occupying 29,900 square feet. SAA-GE has a total of 8 classrooms and 2 auditoriums suitably sized for 30 to 170 students. We also have 2 computer laboratories, a comprehensive library, a student recreational centre and lecturer s consultation rooms. City Campus @ Raffles Quay SAA-GE has a strategically located City Centre Campus, in the heart of Singapore s Central Business District. The 6 Raffles Quay Campus is easily accessible from Raffle Place MRT through a sheltered underground walkway. Sited on the 23rd floor with over 10,000 sq ft of floor space, it encompasses 3 well-equipped training rooms which can accommodate between 50 to 80 students. ABOUT THE university of london The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) The academic direction for the University of London International Programmes undergraduate degrees and diplomas in Economics, Management, Finance and Social Science is provided by the London School of Economics and Political Science. The LSE academics and administrative staff develop syllabuses, write subject guides, and set and mark the examination papers. The University of London International Programmes The University of London International Programmes initiated in 1858, is the world s oldest provider of degrees through distance and flexible learning. Today, it has almost 50,000 students worldwide taking the degree through a comprehensive network of exam centres that spans over 180 countries, including over 10,000 students in Singapore. Through the International Programmes the University of London can provide local access to their degrees. In addition students use the fact that they have completed units within the University of London degree programmes as a stepping stone to study undergraduate programmes in universities in the UK, Australia, the United States, Canada and New Zealand. The University of London is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities. Many of the constituent colleges are internationally recognised including London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) which is recognised as a world class university and consistently ranked within the top 5 UK Universities by the Times Good University Guide. Students who graduate with a University of London degree have many opportunities for postgraduate studies both within Singapore, including NUS and overseas. Value for money, the whole degree programme including University Registration, Examination, Continuing Registration and SAA-GE tuition fees for 3 years comes to less than S$25,000. 2

PROGRAMME DETAILS Degree Structure The BSc Degrees consist of a total of 12 units, this is reduced to 9 units for students entering through the Graduate Entry Route. Local Polytechnic students who meet the exemption criteria and have successfully completed the SAA Bridging programme will only need to complete 8 or 9 units depending on their choice of degree. More details on page (10) Degrees consist of Foundation and Further units, the number of Foundation units may vary up to a maximum of 5 units. All units are marked at the same level. There are some half units i.e 04a Statistics 1 Some Further units have prerequisties, these are units that must be first passed. The prerequisities are represented by the number in brackets that come after the unit title. i.e. 91 Financial Reporting (25). This means that unit 25 Principles of Accounting must be passed in order to sit the exam for Financial Reporting. Both Further and Foundation units can be taken in any order, providing students meet any prerequisites. However we recommend that students first take the Foundation units and then the Further units. Students typically take 4 units a year. Given the flexibility of the programme students do have the option of slowing down and taking less units if circumstances so require. Students have up to 8 years to complete the degree. SAA-GE provides classroom-based lectures and tutorials providing support and guidance to students, taking them through the unit material and ensuring that students are properly prepared for the examinations and understand the approach adopted by the University of London and LSE. Recognition The University of London Accounting & Finance degree is accredited by ICPAS, the National Accountancy Body of Singapore for entry into ICPAS Professional Examination as a pathway to attaining the CPA Singapore designation The University of London degrees are internationally recognised for entry into top Masters & PhD programmes GRADUATION RECOGNITION The Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree is awarded by University of London, UK. Upon successful completion, graduates will be conferred with a degree indicated that you were registered with the University of London and passed the approved examinations conducted by The London School of Economics and Political Science. Graduates are allowed to use the initials BSc (Hons) after their names. Assessment Each unit is assessed by means of one 3-hour or 3-hour fifteen minutes unseen written examination. Half units are assessed by means of one 2-hour unseen written examination. The examinations are held once a year in May/June. The minimum number of units a student can opt to sit in any one year is one half unit, while the maximum number of new units a student can sit is 4. Students can opt to sit 5 new units in the final year providing they have no resits (failed units) from the previous year. Online Library, which includes access to journals across a broad range of subjects. 3

DIPLOMA IN ECONOMICS The Diploma in Economics: An entry route to degree study If you do not have the traditional GCE A levels or their equivalent, the Diploma in Economics provides an alternative entry route to the University of London degrees in the fields of Economics, Management, Finance and the Social Sciences (EMFSS). One important point to note is that the Diploma in Economics can only be taken at an institution that has been given permission by The University of London to teach the programme. Features You take the same Foundation units as those offered to degree students. Successful completion of the four units gives direct entry to the 2nd year of the UOL degree Passing two full units (including a Maths or Stats unit) will enable students to continue on into the Degree programme Entry to the Diploma is by evaluation and interview SAA-GE offers a full-time programme Are you eligible for the Diploma? To be eligible for the Diploma you must: 18 years or older before 31 December in the year you first register with the University Meet SAA-GE minimum entry requirements Admitted after evaluation and interview by SAA-GE In order to help students gauge their suitability for the Diploma in Economics SAA-GE has set minimum entry requirements, these can be found at www.saa.org.sg/uol_diploma_in_economics. html. As a guide, students should have a good foundation in Mathematics and English. Diploma Classification Students may be awarded the Diploma in Economics with Distinction, Merit or Credit, only if they have taken no more than one resit (of a full or half unit). Students who have re-sat more than one unit (full or half) or who have re-sat one unit (full or half) on more than one occasion will not be awarded Distinction, Merit or Credit, but will still be awarded Pass if they have passed all four full units or the equivalent. To be awarded the Diploma in Economics or the Diploma in Social Sciences with Distinction, Merit or Credit, all four marks must be 40 or higher. In general, you will be awarded the diploma class if three marks are in that diploma class. Programme Structure Year 1 Diploma in Economics 02 Introduction to Economics 05a & Mathematics 1(1/2 unit) & 04a Statistics 1 (1/2 unit) 25 Principles of Accounting 05b & Mathematics 2(1/2 unit) & 04b Statistics 2 (1/2 unit) Progression You can progress from the Diploma in Economics to the 2nd year of the following degrees: B.Sc (Hons) Accounting & Finance B.Sc (Hons) Banking & Finance B.Sc (Hons) Business B.Sc (Hons) Economics & Management Access Route The Access Route is designed to provide an additional entry route for students who do not meet the general entry requirements. Students take 2 units: 02 Introduction to Economics 04a Statistics 1 & 05a Mathematics 1 Upon successful completion of these units students can transfer their registration to the degree of their choice, and have 10 additional units to complete the degree. 4

B.Sc (Hons) Accounting & Finance This degree gives you an understanding of accounting and finance that will be useful throughout your career. The Degree is recognised by ICPAS for entry into the ICPAS Professional Examination as a pathway to CPA Singapore (www.icpas.org. sg/pe.asp). In addition, ACCA will give exemption for certain ACCA modules. B.Sc (Hons) Banking & Finance This degree is designed for students who have or are considering a career in commercial/investment banking, finance, trading, risk management, consultancy, and other finance related industries. The central theme is the way financial intermediaries and institutions operate, the structure and functioning of financial markets, and the management of risk. Focus on the interpretation of tables and results and the appropriate way to approach statistical problems. Treatment is at an elementary mathematical level. Ideas of probability, inference and multivariate analysis are introduced. 05a Mathematics 1 (half-unit) Develops basic mathematical methods. Provides a theoretical framework to address issues in project appraisal and financing, the pricing of risk, securities valuation, market efficiency, capital structure, and mergers and acquisitions. Provides the tools required for further studies in financial intermediation and investments. 93 Auditing & Assurance (25) Introduce students principles of external auditing and other assurance services and provide an understanding of the nature of the function of auditing and other assurance services and the principles of the related processes. 97 Management Accounting (25) Aims are to familiarize students with contemporary management accounting ideas and practices and to enable them to use a range of key management accounting techniques. Emphasis is laid on the strategic potential of the management accounting function for organisations 107 Introduction to Business & Management Students will learn about the workings of business organisations, how they function, and how they interact with the environment. Also considers how these business organisations are managed, including the strategies used to guide them and the decisions involved in the role of the manager. 127 Organisation Theory: An Interdisciplinary Approach (02 or 21) Explores the ways in which organisations can be designed (by management or others) in order to achieve their objectives. This is an interdisciplinary course drawing centrally upon psychology, sociology, economics and, to a lesser extent, management theory. 128 Elements of the Law of Contract Examines the formation of contracts, content of the contract, vitiating factors, illegality and public policy, capacity to contract, with particular reference to capacity of minors, privity of contract, performance and breach, and remedies for breach of contract. 136 Information Systems and Organisations Identifies three models of information system design: data processing, decision making and transaction costs, exploring their organisational implications. Students from the 5 local Polytechnics who have studied Business Accounting or Banking Diplomas are eligible for exemption under the Automatic basis. This allows students to claim up to a maximum of 4 units exemption. The Bridging Economics covers a range of Micro and Macroeconomic topics, including Elasticity, Consumer Choice, IS-LM Model and Inflation. The Bridging Mathematics includes Differentiation, Integration, Matrix Algebra, and Series and Sequences. At the end of the course, candidates sit for a 3-hour Economics exam and a 2-hour Mathematics exam that is externally reviewed by LSE. Professional Attachment Scheme SAA-GE provides our Singaporean/PR students a chance to gain valuable work experience with our CPA registered firms from June to August. Applicants are selected based on their results and aptitude. SAA-GE Foundation Programme In order to help students prepare for the University of London programme SAA-GE offers a free Foundations programme. This enables students to better understand the requirements of the core UOL units and how best to manage their studies. 12

REFUND POLICY PERCENTAGE of the aggregate amount of the course fee paid If Student s written notice of withdrawal is received 100% ( Maximum Refund ) More than 60 days before the course commencement date 75% Between 30 to 60 days before the course commencement date 50% Less than 30 days to 1 day before the course commencement date 25% After, but no more than 7 days after the course commencement date 0% More than 7 days after the course commencement date Terms & Conditions 1. Application Fee is non-refundable and non-transferrable. 2. ICA Processing Fee is non-refundable and non-transferrable. 3. Refund administrative fee applies for every refund application. 4. Refund application must be made in writing and must be accompanied with valid reasons. Any decision relating to a refund will be made at the sole discretion of SAA-GE and that shall be final. 5. Processing time of refund application is seven (7) working days from the complete receipt of the supporting documents. Refund application received after 12pm is considered as submission on the next working day. 6. Original receipt must be presented for Refund Application. 7. Student is provided with a 7 working-days cooling-off period upon signing of PEI Student Contract.
