EIGHTH SEMESTER STS 4600 The Engineer, Ethics & Professional Resp. ECE 4908 or SYS 405 (10) (ECE #6) Electrical Engineering Projects or Systems Design II 2 nd term of capstone project ECE Lab 2 ECE #7 ECE Lab Elective 2 (5) 1.5 ECE Elective 7 (5) HSS # HSS Elective (2) 14 Units TOTAL = 129 UNITS 1 1. Science Elective I must be chosen from the following list. The associated lab is not required but is encouraged. BIOL 2010 - Introduction to Biology: Cell Biology & Genetics BIOL 2020 - Introduction to Biology: Organismal & Evolutionary Biology CHEM 1620 - Introductory Chemistry for Engineers ECE 2066 - Science of Information ENGR 2500 - Hands on Intro to Nanoscience MSE 2090 - Introduction to the Science and Engineering of Materials PHYS 2620 - Introductory Physics IV: Quantum Physics 2. HSS Electives are to be selected from the list of approved courses which has been prepared by the school. A printout of this list is available in the Undergraduate Dean s Office, Thornton A-122.. ECE 20 is offered both in the Fall and Spring semesters. One could take it in the rd semester. 4. A Technical Elective is defined as a course in engineering (may be ECE), mathematics, or science (intended for science majors) at the 000 level or above. Any course appearing on the approved list of HSS electives may not be used as a technical elective. 5. ECE Electives Ø ECE445, ECE4440 each count as one course and one lab if chosen as electives. Ø One of the seven ECE electives must be the Major Design Experience (MDE) course, currently offered as ECE 4907 - Electrical Engineering Projects. Ø MSE 6670: Electronic, Optical and Magnetic Properties of Material, PHYS 510: Optics and PHYS 520: Fundamentals of Photonics will be cross-listed as ECE courses. Before such cross-listing takes place, EE students may use these courses as ECE electives. Ø If you use a 4000-level ENGR course to fulfill your MDE requirement, and your project involves sufficient Electrical Engineering content, you may petition to use it as an ECE elective. 6. An Unrestricted Elective may be any graded course at the University except level-1 mathematics and any other courses that substantially duplicate courses offered for the degree. 7. ECE 0 is offered both in the Fall and Spring semesters. One could take it in the 5 th semester. 8. The TLP Learning Community total credits that can count as an unrestricted elective (UE #5). 9. To do the Engineering Business minor within the eight semesters, there is some flexibility the terms referred to here are just examples of how it could fit in your schedule. ECON 2010 will count as an HSS (2 nd or 6 th term). COMM 2010 will count as an Unrestricted elective (5 th term). STS 4110 will count as an Unrestricted elective (7 th term). For your three Engineering Business minor electives, consider taking a STS 2000/000 section that is an approved Engr Bus minor elective and two remaining HSS electives from the approved Engr Bus minor electives list. 10. Regardless of the course you sign up for, you will do a 2-term capstone project. You can sign up for ECE 4907 or SYS 405 for the 1 st term and ECE 4908 or SYS 4054 for the 2 nd term. If you want to the 1 st course to count as your MDE ECE elective, you need to petition the ECE department about the nature of your project it has to have sufficient ECE content to count as an ECE elective. The same is true to count the 2 nd term of capstone as an ECE elective you need to petition the ECE department to ensure sufficient ECE content. 1 totals to 129 units due to one tech elective, MAE 4710, being a 4 credit course; could apply extra credit to an unrestricted elective if a 2 credit unrestricted course was taken to round out unrestricted requirements)
