The mission of the Willsboro Central School District is to produce a healthy, responsible, productive citizen who values life-long learning and is capable of contributing to a global community. In concert with the community, the school as a learning and training center must provide instruction, which opens the minds to inquiry and reasoning while acquiring factual knowledge. We accomplish this by providing the resources of the whole community in an exciting, interactive environment conducive to learning. 2. The Willsboro Central School District will use technology to provide the best educational and management tools for our students, teachers, staff and administration. These tools will provide strength to our overall academic achievement. Educational technology will enhance the curriculum for already achieving students, while providing a multidimensional approach to support remediation in reading, math and writing skills. Educational technology will help provide each student with the success needed to become a lifelong learner with a positive self-image. The student will be prepared to accept the technological changes in the working world of the future. Educational technology will enhance teacher and management productivity by increasing the ability to communicate with parents, students, colleagues, the business community, and the world. 3. As Willsboro Central School progressed with technology we realize that a great deal of planning must take place. This planning must be done in such a way as to provide the best hardware and software packages possible for our school and community. To meet this end we will identify the role of technology and the changes that must take place to lead us down this road. This will include staff, teachers, community members and students. During the 2014-15 year there were several informal meeting to address technology concerns for the school year as well as looking into the future. September 11 - Met with school district members to discuss techonolgy plans for the upcoming year. We purchased new chromebooks and deployed those to our high school English department. February 9 - Met with Neric representative to discuss budgeting for next year's school budget. More chromebooks added to budget. March 13 - Met with representatives from SED regarding Fiberoptics grant for the community that would have a major impact on the students that attend our school where high speed internet is not available. June 10 - Met with Roxanne Pombrio the new Neric Assistant Director to discuss how Neric could provide additional services to our schoo. June 24 - Met with local cable provider and community member to discuss information regarding this grant as well as upgrades to our current delivery of internet to the school buildings. 4. The District recognizes the fundamental need to provide equitable access to technology for all students and staff in several areas this includes curriculum, via interactive online services, and virtual learning, environments and software available at school and at home. We want interactive learning material through online discussion groups, interactive conferences and tutorials. We will engage more people (students, staff and community members throug electronic mail, discussion groups, web blogs and other social networking tools appropriate to the District s mission. In addition, the District will promote the integration of technology as a digital resource into curricula and aims to increase the number of educators effectively using technology by providing digitally rich model lessons in core content areas that are aligned to digital resources. We will also provide technical guidance and training on content and tools necessary to implement the curriculum. 2. Absolutely, the district continues to keep students with disabilities in mind when making purchasing decisions regarding technology. Recently, we have added Ipads to our special education rooms as well as purchased used assistive reading technology for a student. The district always follows the needs of a student with disabilities and any recommendations as proscribed within the student's IEP. 3. If "", please provide detail., again we educate all our students and provide the tools necessary for their success. We continually keep all children in mind when making decisions. This issue is even more delineated by the district's CSE committee that is able to mandate specific assistive technology purchases specific to an individual child by on his/her IEP. Professional Development F. Professional Development 1. We will continue to in-service staff to increase their proficiency in the use of technology and its integration into the instructional program and curriculum. Each year, staff will be surveyed to determine their individual needs for in-service training. Based on the results of these surveys, a structured in-service plan will be formalized for each individual in compliance with the New York State Professional Development Guidelines. The required training will be provided by qualified computer/technology resource personnel with evaluation documents completed following the training sessions. Routinely throughout the school year, the technology committee will meet to review, to access our needs. We will be focus energy on Google resources such as Google Apps and Google Tools for educators and students. The method of delivery will continue to include a varied approach for our staff and students. This will inlcude staff members attending technology workshops in the immediate area, webinars as well as emails from the district promoting educational technology (apps and websites, etc.) as well as internal individual trainings from our in house technology technician via our contract with our regional Neric as well as outside consultants including Google professional trainers. 2. Instructional Technology Plan Implementation I. Instructional Technology Plan Implementation 1. Fall 2015 : Receive grant approval Winter 2015-16 - Bidding and Planning Expected outcome: The district will continue to plan for the implementation of this plan as well actually send out the RFP associated with the purchase of equipment and infrastructure improvements. Summer 2016 - Purchasing and infrastructure upgrades Expected outcome: After receiving and accepting the bid prices associated with the equipment, the district will begin the purchasing process of actually receiving the equipment. We also hope to complete the infrastructure improvements during the summer months when students and staff are not on site. Fall 2016 - Working with community and representatives regarding high speed to other areas in the community that service students. Expected outcome: This will be an ongoing discuss with our community and two towns that comprise our school district. It is expected in the Winter of 2015, the district will evaluate, via a teacher perception survey, the effectiveness of our current use of technology in the classroom.
