WINKLE COLLEGE OF PHARMACY AMERICAN COLLEGE OF CLNICAL PHARMACY STUDENT CHAPTER CONSTITUTION AND BYLAWS American College of Clinical Pharmacy Mission Statement The American College of Clinical Pharmacy s (ACCP) purpose is to advance human health by extending the frontiers of clinical pharmacy. Through strategic initiatives, partnerships, collaborations, and alliances, ACCP: 1. Provides leadership, professional development, advocacy, and resources that enable clinical pharmacists to achieve excellence in practice, research, and education. 2. Advances clinical pharmacy and pharmacotherapy through support and promotion of research, training and education. 3. Promotes innovative science, develops successful models of practice, and disseminates new knowledge to advance pharmacotherapy and patient care. Ohio College of Clinical Pharmacy Mission Statement to ACCP Student Chapters The Ohio College of Clinical Pharmacy (OCCP) is affiliated with Student College of Clinical Pharmacy (SCCP) chapters established within the state of Ohio and as such shall be responsible for providing necessary resources to facilitate the establishment and growth of SCCP chapters. Such resources shall include, but are not limited to, materials regarding bylaws, proposed organization structure, and contact information for established SCCP chapters. Established SCCP chapters shall provide the aforementioned resources to OCCP to help facilitate this process. OCCP members shall serve as mentors and exemplify the leadership role for student members. OCCP shall also provide personnel resources, within reason, if requests are made by an SCCP chapter for a topic discussion pertaining to a specialty that is unavailable through their local resources. I. Name This organization shall be known as the University of Cincinnati James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy American College of Clinical Pharmacy Student Chapter, hereinafter referred to as UC ACCP Student Chapter. Page 1 of 6
II. Purpose The UC ACCP Student Chapter shall adopt the purposes of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. In addition, UC ACCP Student Chapter shall have the following mission: 1. To acclimate students to the practice of clinical pharmacy by: a. Providing instruction and education about clinical careers, therapeutic topics, and opportunities within the field of pharmacy b. Promoting the advancement of clinical pharmacy by dedication to excellence in patient care, research, and education c. Equipping students with skills necessary to function within an interprofessional team and developing those skills 2. Advocating the necessities, advantages, and roles of clinical pharmacists within healthcare 3. Maintaining leadership and professional development to achieve students desired career goals 4. Encouraging participation in state and national organizations of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy as a student and following graduation III. Membership and Dues Membership in the UC ACCP Student Chapter shall be available to full time students enrolled in the University of Cincinnati James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy in good academic standing who submit an application, pay the required dues, and support the purposes of UC ACCP Student Chapter. In addition, all members are required to submit an application and pay the fee for membership of the Ohio College of Clinical Pharmacy (OCCP) and the American College of Pharmacy (ACCP). Eligibility for renewal of UC ACCP Student Chapter membership shall discontinue upon graduation or loss of academic standing at the University of Cincinnati James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy. IV. Officers The officers of UC ACCP Student Chapter shall be the President, President Elect, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, PY3 Community Service Coordinator, PY2 Community Service Coordinator, Fundraising Coordinator. These officers shall constitute the Executive Committee of the UC ACCP Student Chapter, and the authority for the governance and general operation of the UC ACCP Student Chapter shall be vested in this body. To hold office a student shall be a member in good standing of the UC ACCP Student Chapter and be in good academic standing at The James L. Winkle University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy. Duties 1. President. The President shall be the principal elected officer of UC ACCP Student Chapter, shall preside at all business meetings and appoint, in consultation with the Executive Committee, the various committees and their chairperson(s). The President shall represent the UC ACCP Student Chapter at such times and places deemed necessary by the UC ACCP Student Chapter. The president has the autonomy to appoint the various committees chair persons and PRN chairs with consultation of the executive committee. The President shall preside over the standing committees, facilitating communication between committee chairs and the executive committee. The President should also serve as the Student Liaison. The Student Liaison shall be responsible for communicating the activities of UC ACCP Student Chapter to the Ohio College of Clinical Pharmacy and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. The Student Liaison is strongly encouraged to attend the meetings of both the Ohio College of Clinical Pharmacy and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. 2. President Elect. The President- Elect shall assume the responsibilities of the President in his or her absence or incapacity, and may be assigned other duties and responsibilities as determined by the President. The President- Elect shall share responsibility with the President in presiding over the standing committees, facilitating communication between committee chairs and the executive committee. The President- Elect shall succeed to the office of the President upon completing the term as President- Elect. The President- Elect must be a student who is elected as a PY1, serve as a PY2, and succeed to President during their PY3 academic year. The President Elect is able to serve alongside the President as Student Liaison if he/she chooses to do so. The President- Elect will also serve as the Tribunal (Student Government) Representative, and shall express the concerns of the UC ACCP Student Chapter, and inform Tribunal members of upcoming UC ACCP Student Chapter activities. The Tribunal Representative shall vote on behalf of the UC ACCP Student Chapter and not for his or her personal gain. Failure to do so will result in immediate resignation of the position. 3. Vice President. The Vice President shall assume the responsibilities of the President and President Elect in his or her absence or incapacity, and may be assigned other duties as determined by the President and President Elect. The Vice President is to provide structure and support to the President and President Elect. The Vice President will preside over the different coordinators, and ensure they are completing assigned tasks in an appropriate manner. The Vice President must be a PY3 student when serving the term. 4. Secretary. The Secretary shall maintain accurate records of the UC ACCP Student Chapter membership and minutes of proceedings and serve as correspondent. Page 3 of 6
5. Treasurer. The Treasurer shall, in consultation with the Executive Committee, develop an annual budget, and maintain an accurate record of UC ACCP Student Chapter dues, receipts, other income, and expenditures. Signatures of the ACCP College of Pharmacy Faculty Liaison (Faculty Advisor) and the Treasurer or the President shall be required to negotiate the UC ACCP Student Chapter s checks. 6. Historian. The historian shall be responsible for documenting all events through the documentation form, pictures, or video. The historian is responsible for keeping all records of these events in a sequenced organized fashion. The historian is to keep the UC ACCP Student Chapter update current on the OCCP webpage. Lastly, the Historian shall be responsible for the formation and oversee all social events of the UC ACCP Student Chapter. 7. PY3 Community Service Coordinator. The Community Service Coordinator shall be responsible for the formation and oversee all community service of the UC ACCP Student Chapter. The PY3 Community Service Coordinator must be a PY3 student when serving the term. 8. PY2 Community Service Coordinator. The Community Service Coordinator shall be responsible for the formation and oversee all community service of the UC ACCP Student Chapter. The PY2 Community Service Coordinator must be a PY2 student when serving the term. 9. Fundraising Coordinator. The Fundraising Coordinator shall be responsible for the formation and oversee all fundraising of the UC ACCP Student Chapter. Election and Terms of Office Officers for President- Elect, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, PY3 Communtiy Serice Coordinator, PY2 Community Service Coordinator, Fundraising Coordinator, Social Event Coordinator, and Tribunal Representative shall be elected annually by secret ballot by a majority vote of the members in good standing present and voting at a regular meeting of the spring term of each academic year, and shall take office immediately for a term of one year. All officers must be in good academic standing with the University of Cincinnati James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy. A vacancy in any office, except for President (which will be filled by the President- Elect) shall be filled within two weeks by Executive Committee appointment. The appointed individual shall complete the designee's term of office. Page 4 of 6
V. Practice and Research Networks (PRNs) The UC ACCP Student Chapter will conduct local student PRNs. A UC ACCP Officer and a separate advisor specializing in that area will lead these individualized PRNs. Meetings will be held separately from general body meetings with topics related to their field of specialty. The student PRN must meet at least once a semester. 1. Ambulatory Care PRN. Provides introduction and focused topics within the field of Ambulatory Care. The Vice President and advisor who is an Ambulatory Care Specialist will lead the PRN. The chosen advisor and Vice President will choose the topics/speakers at the meetings, which will be held separately from the general body meetings at their leisure. VI. Meetings The President shall conduct regular Executive Committee, business meetings, and meetings of the general membership at least monthly, preferably twice a month, during the academic year or as deemed necessary. All meetings of the Executive Committee shall be open to the general membership of the UC ACCP Student Chapter. A general meeting of the UC ACCP Student Chapter can be called if three members of the UC ACCP Student Chapter submit to the President a request for such a meeting with a proposed agenda at least seven days before such a meeting is to be held. A quorum to conduct the business of either the Executive Committee or the general membership shall consist of a majority of the members of each group, respectively. VII. Faculty Advisor The members of the UC ACCP Student Chapter shall designate a member of the faculty of the University of Cincinnati James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy to serve on a yearly basis as an advisor to the UC ACCP Student Chapter. The faculty advisor shall be a licensed pharmacist. The ACCP College of Pharmacy Faculty Liaison shall serve as the faculty advisor to the UC ACCP Student Chapter. If a faculty liaison has not been identified by ACCP, members of the UC ACCP Student Chapter shall identify a member of the faculty of the school to serve in this capacity and report his/her name to ACCP. VIII. Amendments These documents may be proposed to be amended at any regular general membership meeting by a two- thirds (2/3) vote of the members present and voting. Two or more members shall present any proposed amendment to the President in writing at least two weeks prior to a regularly scheduled meeting. The President shall schedule the amendment as an item of new business at the next regularly Page 5 of 6
scheduled meeting. Once approved at that meeting by a two- thirds (2/3) vote of those present and voting, the amendment shall be adopted. IX. Dissolution If the UC ACCP Student Chapter should dissolve, following the settlement of all outstanding debts, any remaining funds in the treasury shall be transferred to the treasury of the Ohio College of Clinical Pharmacy. If there is no Ohio College of Clinical Pharmacy, such remaining funds shall be transferred to the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. The College of Pharmacy Faculty Liaison will help facilitate this process. XI. Fund Allocation The executive committee has the autonomy to make decisions about distribution of funds from the general account in amounts that total less that 25% of the account, or any amount less than $1000. Any funding above these totals will require a majority vote of the UC ACCP Student Chapter membership for allocation. Page 6 of 6
