Pilot Description 14 Pilot originally planned with 30 participants Providing a DICOM E-Mail Gateway, including project management, configuration and support. Providing the communication platform No fees during the pilot phase (until 31.12.2011) Routine operation with further participants starting January 2012

Pilot Targets 15 Usage for time independent communication (e.g. second opinion, research, teaching, mail replacement for providing DICOM objects) Establishment of a Public Key Infrastructure.

Pilot Current Status 16 Online 34 Gateways 11 DICOM Mail Clients

Routine Operation Targets 19 Extending the network for all providers in the public-health sector. Financially self supplying platform without the need for additional funding Fees for basic and advanced services Provision of the platform Emergency Teleradiology Resource management (modalities, human resources)

Upcoming Targets 20 Granted funding of Scientific Projects by TeBiCom Ruhr using the Teleradiology Network Ruhr Platform Teaching- and Research Archives Improvement of medical networking Stroke, Cardiology, Oncology, Traumatology Research Gender specific Workflow Quality Assurance

Pilot Résumé 21 High acceptance of the project with no animosities among the participants. Instant integration into the existing workflows (mail replacement, second opinion, replacement of existing VPN connections). Relatively work intensive pre-installation phase. Almost no need for support after the installation. Robust technical platform.

Summary 22 There is an obvious need for collaborative networking among participants of the publichealth sector even for competitors. Providing an extendible technical platform can be the missing initiator for fulfilling this need. For being successful a critical mass of initial participants is essential.
