These high school newspapers covered life in the schools as well as events in the communities. Quantity: 803 papers Location: Brooklyn Collection Morgue Repository: Call Number: BC 0242 Scope and Content Note The Brooklyn High Newspaper Collection consists of 803 publications from 50 Brooklyn high schools. news receives the most attention in the papers, but community events, as well as matters of national and international interest, are reported on as well. One example of this coverage is the writing done by students in essays, interviews, poems, and reporting on the assassination of John F. Kennedy. The bulk of the papers in the collection span the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s. There are exceptions, however; papers for Girls High appear from the late 1930s, while those of Bushwick High, the self-proclaimed Oldest High Newspaper in New York, appear from the mid-1970s. Of note in the Collection are two papers from Erasmus Hall High featuring articles and photographs of a young Bobby Fischer. Please be aware that the date range 1937-1975 does not represent continuous coverage but rather reflects the earliest date and the latest date covered.
