Biographical Sketch Gladys Kiniery was born in Footville, Wisconsin, one of eight children. She received her basic nursing education at Mercy Hospital in Janesville, Wisconsin, after which she was employed by the Children s Hospital of Cook County Hospital, the Chicago Lying In Hospital, and the Visiting Nurses Association. Kiniery completed her Bachelor s in Nursing in 1936 from Loyola University. In 1940 she received her Masters degree in Public Health from the University of Michigan. She became the second dean of Loyola s School of Nursing in During her tenure as dean she reorganized the school establishing a Department of Nursing and a Department of Public Health Nursing; oversaw many changes in the curriculum; and developed a postsecondary nursing education program in 1949 and then initiated a graduate nursing program in Dean Kiniery retired from Loyola in 1966, after which she worked for the Division of Nursing Education and Training for the U.S. Department of where she certified nursing schools. Gladys Kiniery passed away March 4, Scope and Content The Gladys Kiniery records span the years 1947 to 1966 and include reports, correspondence, surveys, program proposals, brochures, newspaper clippings, guidebooks, minutes and agenda, speeches, publications, and scrapbooks.
