Total funding amount: $30,078,163 Colorado $1,198,785 Advance a comprehensive statewide youth access policy; increase statewide awareness of the health implications of excess dietary sodium; reduce consumption of sugar sweetened beverages; and develop and implement model food policies for schools statewide. Educate leaders and decision makers about the benefits of increasing the price on other tobacco products such as cigars and smokeless tobacco to equal the price on cigarettes. Florida $1,977,060 Increase physical activity in all 592 Florida middle schools using the evidence based physical activity program, Sports, Play and Active Recreation for Kids (SPARK). Massachusetts $1,200,000 Increase restrictions on retail and outdoor advertising by 1) including cigars in outdoor advertising ban within 1000 ft of schools, parks, and playgrounds; 2) including all tobacco products in advertising restrictions; and 3) requiring a health message for every tobacco message in a retail store. Michigan $1,500,000 Reduce exposure to second hand smoke, including partnering with Native Americans. Minnesota $2,391,627 Implement a statewide initiative to increase access to foods meeting dietary guidelines and the new Institute of Medicine (IOM) 2009 recommendations for healthy school meals for use in school meal planning and purchasing across the state; and increase school nutrition professionals core competencies through the development of a sustainable, statewide system for ongoing skill based staff training for 100% of Minnesota s public school districts.
