Environmental Planning at EiABC, AAU The first PhD program in Environmental Planning in the country Program Started: Nov. 2010 Duration of study: 4 years Host: Chair of Ecosystem Planning & Management, and Chair of Environmental Planning and Landscape Design

Objective to educate future advisors, educators and decision makers that will lead, support and advance interdisciplinary training, research and consultancy in the field of environmental planning.

Program Focus Area 1. Urban Environmental Planning and Management 2. Planning for Natural Area Management 3. Planning for Working Landscape Management

Gradate Profile The graduates will develop the knowledge and skills that enable them to: Apply theoretical and methodological principles to strategic development, environmental plan and policy preparation Do interdisciplinary research to issues related to ecosystem management both in the built and natural environment Use scientific data and results as a basis for environmental planning and ecosystem evaluation when proposing and implementing development activities both in the built and natural environment

PhD Research PhD students are expected to demonstrate the ability to acquire depth of knowledge by performing doctoral research in a chosen area of Environmental Planning, leading to a PhD dissertation.

Dissertation Dissertation is a requirement for a Ph.D. degree in Environmental Planning at EiABC, AAU In the dissertation, the candidate is required to demonstrate: Knowledge of the literature relevant to the dissertation The ability to design an investigation, and to gather and analyze information The ability to present information in a manner consistent with publication in the relevant discipline Critical appraisal of own work relative to that of others A significant and original contribution to science
