Prairie View Nurses Alumni Association Houston, Texas MEMORANDUM TO: FROM: Prairie View A&M University College of Nursing Students Prairie View Nurses Alumni Association Scholarship Committee DATE: February 2, 2009 RE: SCHOLARSHIPS The Prairie View Nurses Alumni Association awards scholarships to nursing students each year. They are: Prairie View Nurses Alumni General Scholarship Barbara Masters/Ivie Jo Morris Scholarship Dr. Barbara Brown Napper Scholarship Dr. Mattye Bryant Glass Scholarship Prairie View Nursing Class of 1962 Scholarship Walterene Irving Reed Scholarship Prairie View Nursing Class of 1963 Scholarship Barbara Petitt Howard Scholarship The scholarships will be awarded at the Scholarship Luncheon which will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2009. Eligibility for the scholarships is based on academic achievement and/or financial need. The deadline for submitting the completed application to Ms. Sheila Harvin, Room 906 is Thursday, February 26, 2009. Late applications will not be accepted. All qualified applicants will be contacted and scheduled for a personal interview with the Scholarship Committee which will be held at the College of Nursing. Students who are selected are expected to be present at the luncheon.

PRAIRIE VIEW NURSES ALUMNI GENERAL SCHOLARSHIP 1. GPA of 2.5 or higher. 2. Classified in Fall as full-time Junior or Senior Nursing Student. 3. Membership in professional organizations (i.e., TNSA, Chi Eta Phi, Sigma Theta Tau, etc.) 4. Demonstrate leadership abilities (including participation in student organizations, academic and extra-curricular activities, citizenship and service to the school, and commitment to nursing). 5, Submit two (2) letters of recommendation (letters should come from a faculty member and a sponsor of one of the organizations) verifying active membership and participation. 6. Is active in civic and community organization, e.g., American Red Cross, church, sorority, health fairs, etc. 7. A personal interview with the scholarship committee is required to complete the application process. 8. Applicants will be notified by the scholarship committee chairperson within two (2) days after the interview of acceptance. *Must complete all prerequisite courses for Upper Division Clinical Studies by Spring 2009 Semester.
