TRI Product NewsFlash December 2015 Study Overview 2015
Dear Partners Year in, year out, we are screening all major scientific journals to ensure that our TRI Performance Concept still reflects the latest state of the science and to discover new trends and insights for our future product development. Most obvious in 2015 is the increasingly strong scientific evidence for narrower and shorter implants, even combined with immediate or early loading. The result is a more straightforward and less invasive treatment for the patient. TRI supports such less invasive treatment concepts with our 6mm short implants (new for 4.1mm this year) and our TRI-Narrow implant line. I wish you an interesting lecture, and please feel free to pass this scientific update also to your customers. Best regards Sandro Venanzoni, M. Sc. Technical Accuracy of Printed Surgical Templates for Guided Implant Surgery with the codiagnostixtm Software Conclusion: A high accuracy can be achieved using printed templates for guided implant surgery, by taking into account all sources of inaccuracies. Comment TRI : TRI+ supports guided surgery with codiagnostix, and we recommend this system to our customers due to the strong scientific evidence behind. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Clin Implant Dent Relat Res. 2015 Jan;17 Suppl 1:e267-74. doi: 10.1111/cid.12138. Radiographic Monitoring of Changes in Bone Height after Implant Placement in Combination with an Internal Sinus Lift without Graft Material Conclusion: A gain in apical bone height can be expected if implants are placed in combination with ISL without graft material. Variability is high, however. Comment TRI : We do not recommend sinus lift without bone grafting material. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Immediate Loading of Postextraction Implants in the Esthetic Area: Systematic Review of the Literature Conclusion: Though the conventional protocol still represents the gold standard, immediate restoration of implants placed in fresh extraction sites displayed an excellent implant prognosis. Such clinical approach can be successfully adopted in order to minimize the treatment time with a relevant impact on patient's satisfaction. Comment TRI : With TRI Bone-Adapt, we deliver a product that fulfils all prerequisites for immediate loading. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------J Clin Periodontol. 2015 Jan;42(1):72-80. doi: 10.1111/jcpe.12323. Part 1: demographics and patientreported outcomes at 1 year of loading Conclusions: Both treatment modalities can be considered suitable for implant therapy in the atrophied posterior maxilla. Short implants may be more favourable regarding short-term patient morbidity, treatment time and price. Comment TRI : TRI offers 6.5 mm implants. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------J Dent. 2015 Feb;43(2):149-170. doi: 10.1016/j.jdent.2014.09.002. Tilted versus axially placed dental implants: A meta-analysis Conclusions: It is suggested that the differences in angulation of dental implants might not affect the implant survival or the marginal bone loss. The reliability and validity of the data collected and the potential for biases and confounding factors are some of the shortcomings of the present study. Comment TRI : TRI supports tilted implant placement with the All-on-TRI solution. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Clin Oral Implants Res. 2015 Mar;26(3):342-58. doi: 10.1111/clr.12339. Epub 2014 Jan 20. Impact of platform switching on marginal peri-implant bone-level changes. A systematic review and metaanalysis Conclusions: The meta-analysis revealed a significantly less mean MBL change at implants with a PS compared to PM-implant-abutment configuration. Studies included herein showed an unclear as well as high risk of bias mostly, and relatively short follow-up periods. The qualitative analysis revealed a tendency favoring the PS technique to prevent or minimize peri-implant marginal bone loss compared with PM technique. Due to heterogeneity of the included studies, their results require cautious interpretation. Comment TRI : TRI -Bone adapt follows the platform switching philosophy. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All-ceramic restoration of zirconia two-piece implants a randomized controlled clinical trial Conclusions: After 24 months, success rates of the two-piece ceramic implants showed no significant difference compared to control two-piece titanium implants. The bonded zirconia implant abutment connection appears to be capable with clinical application over the observed period. However, further control measurements need to confirm the presented data. Comment TRI : TRI does not offer ceramic implants yet, however we are observing positive study results on ceramic implants like this one. Currently, we do not get any request for ceramic implants from our sales organizations. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Clin Oral Implants Res. 2015 Apr;26(4):471-7. doi: 10.1111/clr.12409. Early loading of 6-mm-short implants with a moderately rough surface supporting single crowns a prospective 5-year cohort study Conclusion: Six millimeter implants with a SLActive moderately rough surface supporting single crowns in the posterior region and loaded after 6 7 weeks maintained full function for at least 5 year with low marginal bone resorption. Comment TRI : We are also recommending early loading, but not immediate loading for our 6mm implants. TRI Bone Adapt and TRI SBA Surface fulfil all prerequisite for early loading of our short implants. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------J Prosthet Dent. 2015 Apr;113(4):295-303. doi: 10.1016/j.prosdent.2014.09.018. Peri-implant soft tissue colour around titanium and zirconia abutments: a prospective randomized controlled clinical study. Conclusions: Within their limits, the present data indicate that: (i) The peri-implant soft tissue around titanium and zirconia showed colour differences when compared to the soft tissue around natural teeth, and (ii) the peri-implant soft tissue around zirconia demonstrated a better colour match to the soft tissue at natural teeth than titanium Comment TRI : Interesting comparison to our study with University of Zurich where we could show that our pink neck is provides similar results to zirconium. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Eur J Oral Implantol. 2015 Summer;8(2):129-40. Do repeated changes of abutments have any influence on the stability of peri-implant tissues? Four-month post-loading preliminary results from a multicentre randomised controlled trial. Conclusions: Preliminary short-term data (4-month post-loading) showed that repeated abutment changes do not alter bone levels significantly. Immediate non-occlusal loading of dental implants are a viable alternative to conventional loading. Therefore clinicians can use the procedure they find more convenient for their specific patient. Comment TRI : Deprioritization of the development of a one-abutment-one-time solution due to negative study results and low requests from the markets. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Int J Prosthodont. 2015 May-Jun;28(3):239-42. doi: 10.11607/ijp.4038. Clinical evaluation of zirconia-based restorations on implants: a retrospective cohort study from the AIOP clinical research group. Conclusions: Zirconiabased implant-supported restorations showed encouraging clinical results over a period of up to 5 years, but more clinical data are needed before these restorations can be considered a viable treatment alternative. Mechanical failures were primarily observed in patients with parafunctions. Comment TRI : Based on the existing scientific evidence, we will not offer full zirconiabased abutments yet.
