Highlights U and S/T Interfaces IDSL Testing ISDN Testing External clock for IDSL over DLC Testing U interface eoc Commands U interface M4 Channel Access Telephone Function ISDN Call Functions BERT Measurements Automated Tests D-channel Packet SVC and PVC Tests Equipped with the most needed test capabilities the IDSL Module enables field technician to efficiently perform circuit turn-up and troubleshoot testing for IDSL and BRI ISDN circuits. Turn-up or troubleshoot IDSL circuit by running end-to-end BERT or single-ended BERT from the central office to the customer premises direction. Use external clock inputs to facilitate IDSL over DLC system testing to ensure valid BERT measurement. Test and monitor IDSL circuit status with the U interface eoc commands and M4 channel access capability provided by the IDSL Module. Turn-up ISDN circuits by making test calls and using the automated test capability Troubleshoot ISDN circuits by monitoring the D channel messages and call disconnect cause value. Verify proper circuit functioning of X.25 over D channel by making test calls and sending data packets. U and S/T Interfaces The IDSL Module allows IDSL and ISDN BRI testing by providing both U and S/T test interfaces. IDSL Testing IDSL circuit testing generally requires both LT and NT emulation modes when testing from the Central Office and from the Customer Premises directions. The dual mode U 2B1Q interface supports both LT and NT emulation modes for U interface testing supporting test requirements at either site. BER test on selected test channel allows transmission quality assessment of the IDSL circuit.

IDSL testing on the S/T interface is also supported through the availability of the S/T interface and the associated NT and TE emulation modes. ISDN Testing Considering also ISDN circuit turn-up and maintenance testing requirements, the ISDN BRI emulation modes provide Layer 2 and Layer 3 testing with the TE/NT1 and TE-S/T emulation respectively for the U and S/T interfaces. External Clock for IDSL Circuit over DLC Testing Transmission quality BERT performed on IDSL circuits carried over Digital Loop Carrier (DLC) systems mostly suffers from intermittent pattern sync loss owing to clock slip problem. The IDSL Module provides external reference clock inputs to enable the test set to synchronize to the network to eliminate clock slip between the source from the test set and the circuit under test ensuring valid BER test result.

U Interface eoc Commands Perform loop BER test from the central office or co-locate site towards the span with the repeater or NT looped-up after sending eoc loopback command. Verify also if the NT is connected to the circuit by checking the response of the eoc command. Acts as loop box in NT mode responding to eoc loopback commands from the LT. U Interface M4 Channel Access The M4 channel provides useful information to the field technician about the circuit continuity through to DSLAM. The IDSL Module offers control and monitor of the M4 channel bit status. By placing and receiving calls, the Dual T1 Module verifies service when installing new voice trunks or PBX equipment. Bi-directional monitoring and drop/insert testing troubleshoots signaling problems between the switch and the PBX. Features include: Dialing: DTMF, MF, DP E&M, Loop-start, Ground-start, FXO/FXS signaling Send/receive test tones Noise measurements: signal to noise, C-notch, C-message, 3K-flat Digits capture and analysis Bi-directional signaling analysis ESF Data Link Control Monitoring the ESF BPM-PRM data link is an excellent way to discover errors which are otherwise undetectable at the monitoring point. The user can also retrieve valuable performance reports from NIUs.

ISDN Primary Rate The Dual T1 Module has the power and features to troubleshoot PRI problems, whether the cause be physical layer errors, timing, switch translations, or other protocol issues. In addition to bi-directional trace monitoring and decoding, the Dual T1 Module can place and receive both voice and data calls in a TE or NT configuration. PRI Highlights TE/NT Emulation National ISDN, AT&T Custom, and Nortel DMS 23B+D, 47B+D, or 46B+2D testing BERT data calls: 56k, 64, Nx64k Backup D-channel test for NFAS circuits D-channel monitor with full decode Trace filtering and storage GR-303 The Dual T1 Module offers testing for all aspects of GR-303 systems: monitoring the TMC/CSC control channel, viewing robbed ABCD signaling and dialed digits, listening to voice channels, and thorough tests for the physical layer. The GR-303 option troubleshoots signaling problems between the switch and remote terminal: to determine call status, monitor for any dropped calls, detect any abnormal conditions, and identify when service was unavailable. IP Testing The IP module provides an efficient way to verify end to end provisioning from the customer ADSL modem to the far end ISP gateway and beyond. PING Test: Verifies provisioning and IP connectivity all the way to the customer's ISP. The IP module offers Service Level Agreement (SLA) verification between the ISP and the customer. This verification is critical for business customers with minimum bandwidth guarantees. Throughput Test: This application is designed to verify the available upstream and downstream bit rates between the ISP gateway and the customer premises. The SunSet user can generate a specific load, measure the quality of the transfer, and determine the bit rate limit separately in each direction, thus verifying the SLA separately for both upstream and downstream transmission. This asymmetric load test is superior to ATM cell loopback methods of other

vendors which can only verify connectivity but cannot verify full bandwidth asymmetric transmission in both upstream and downstream directions. Datacom Testing The Datacom module expands the SunSet xdsl's applications to testing WAN/data services. DTE/DCE emulation extends end-to-end testing of data networks and can be used to install and verify CSUs, routers, and other WAN equipment at the CPE. B-directional monitoring provides a greater level of troubleshooting for data networks. Applications include: DTE/DCE emulation Bi-directional monitoring with Y-adapter V.35, RS232, RS449, RS530, X.21 Data rates from 50 bps to 2.048 Mbps BERT testing with stress patterns Control lead status for CTS, RTS, DSR, DTR Loopback testing with RL & LL DTE Emulation DTE emulation provides end to end testing for data networks. This can be done in either a point to point configuration or the set can loopback a DCE device (RL & LL) for one-sided testing.

Bi-directional Monitoring With Y-adapters the SunSet xdsl can monitor the data sent by the DTE and DCE devices. Users may view control lead status (CTS, RTS, DSR, DTR) from both sides, as well as view the actual data bits sent. Other valuable monitor measurements include data loss and received frequency. VF-TIMS Testing VF-TIMS module offers as an additional application to the SunSet xdsl product. The VF-TIMS module provides complete Voice Frequency testing in the analog voice range. It supports a range from 50Hz to 20,000Hz, and has tests for received level and frequency, noise, signal to noise, impulse noise, and call setup (DTMF, DP, or MF Dialing). Applications include: Transmission/Receive Frequencies and Level measurements 3-Tone Slope and Frequency Sweep functions Noise and Signal to Noise ratio Measurement Impulse Noise measurement Call Placing for Analog circuit testing Transmission /Receive Frequencies and Level measurement One basic application is to transmit a frequency over a pair of wires. Typically another test set is needed to measure the frequency at the far end of the cable. This function of transmitting frequencies includes a number of ways this can be done: 1. Fixed Mode: This is a single fixed frequency being sent at a fixed level. 2. 3-Tone Slope Mode: This mode sent frequency 404, 1004, and 2804 Hz at 5 seconds interval with a fixed level. 3. Sweep Mode: This sweeps a certain range of frequencies with a user configurable start and stop frequencies, a step, a dwell time, and a fixed level. 4. Quiet Mode: This places a quiet termination on the circuit. Another basic application is to receive a frequency and perform a level measurement. This

strictly shows received frequency and level. Noise and Signal to Noise ratio Measurement, and Impulse Noise Measurement VF-TIMS module can perform Noise and Signal to Noise ratio measurement, and Impulse Noise measurement with different filters placed on receiver. These filters are C-message, 3kHz-Flat, and 15kHz-Flat. This test is typically done on one of the cable with a Transmit source on the other end of the pair, and this test can be done either 2-wire or 4-wire cable. Call Placing for Analog circuit testing VF-TIMS module allows you to place a call on a 2 wire analog POTS circuit with selected dial mode (DTMF, DP, or MF dialing). This will be done connected to a switch in a central office where digits are sent and you can talk and listen with the test on line.
