2014 Combined Grant Application Process and Instructions The 2014 combined grant application of the Atlanta Bar Foundation ( Foundation ) and Atlanta Bar Association Lawyer Referral and Information Service ( LRIS ) is attached. Interested organizations that meet the eligibility requirements set out in the applicable Appendix A or B may apply for grants from the Foundation and/or LRIS using a single application. If you wish to apply to both organizations for separate grants for different programs, please submit two separate applications and one set of supporting documents. All information and documents requested in these materials must be provided for an application to be considered. A review committee comprised of representatives of the Foundation, LRIS, and Atlanta Bar Association Board of Directors will review all grant applications and make recommendations to the appropriate boards for their consideration and approval. The Foundation board will make a final determination as to recipients of Foundation grants. Recipients of LRIS grants will be determined by the LRIS board, with final approval of the Atlanta bar board. Recipients of grants in 2014 will be notified by December 20, 2014. Evidence of tax exempt status, if any, including a copy of the IRS determination letter confirming this status and a copy of your most recent IRS Form 990. APPENDIX A Atlanta Bar Foundation Grant Conditions Agreement The Atlanta Bar Foundation ( Foundation ) is a Section 501(c) (3) organization and the charitable arm of the Atlanta Bar Association. The Foundation s mission is to support Atlantaarea pro bono legal service providers and Atlanta Bar Association and other pro bono and community service projects that assist youth, provide pro bono legal services, promote higher education through scholarships and promote public understanding of the law. All grants must be consistent with this mission. Grants will not be made in support of the following: Organizations whose primary function is to allocate funds to other charitable organizations or projects Religious, political or lobbying purposes Projects outside the Atlanta metropolitan area Loans Applicants should be aware that the Foundation will give priority in its grant making to charitable projects of the Atlanta Bar Association and its affiliated or related organizations. By signing this agreement as part of the application requirement to be considered for a grant award from the Foundation, the grantee agrees to comply with the following provisions: 1. Applicant affirms that it will restrict the use of Foundation awarded funds to activities that are charitable within in the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Applicant further agrees that all Foundation awarded funds will be used for and only for, the public, charitable purpose set forth in the grantee s application and as described in the grant award letter. Upon making application for a grant, the applicant understands that the Foundation may award greater or lesser amounts of money than requested by the applicant. Any grantee that fails to comply with the conditions of this agreement will be required to return all grant funds awarded for the current grant year. 2. The Foundation grant application deadline is October 31, 2014. All grant recipients will be notified by December 20, 2014. 3. For grantee s application in successive years, the grantee will be expected to provide information about the prior grant, as may be requested. Appendix A Page 1 of 2

4. A grantee that ceases to exist or operate, or does not carry out the purpose for which the grant was made shall immediately return all unused grant funds to the Foundation. 5. The grantee understands that a Foundation award of one grant does not obligate the Foundation to make any additional awards to the grantee in subsequent years. APPENDIX B Atlanta Bar Association Lawyer Referral & Information Service (LRIS) Grant Conditions Agreement By signing this agreement as part of the application requirement to be considered for a grant award from the Atlanta Bar Association Lawyer Referral & Information Service (LRIS), the grantee agrees to comply with the following provisions: 1. Applicant affirms that it will restrict the use of the Atlanta Bar Association s Lawyer Referral & Information Service (LRIS) awarded funds to law-related activities that are charitable within in the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Applicant further agrees that all received grant funds will be used for and only for, the public, charitable purpose set forth in the grantee s application and as delimited in the grant award letter. Upon making application for a grant, the applicant understands that the Atlanta Bar Association s LRIS may award greater or lesser amounts of money than requested by the applicant. Any grantee which fails to comply with the conditions of this agreement will be required to return all grant funds awarded for the current grant year. 2. The grant application deadline is October 31, 2014. All grants recipients will be notified by December 20, 2014. 3. For grantee s applying in successive years, the grantee shall furnish a report to the Atlanta Bar Association s LRIS, comparing their prior year s anticipated expenditures against actual expenditures. 4. The grantee agrees to provide Atlanta Bar Association s LRIS, upon request, with a detailed report to account for the use of grant funds and, if asked, to make available for inspection financial records pertaining to the grant award. 5. A grantee which ceases to exist or operate, or which abandons any program or fails to complete such a program funded by an Atlanta Bar Association LRIS grant award shall immediately return all unused grant funds to the Atlanta Bar Association s LRIS. 6. The grantee understands that the Atlanta Bar Association s LRIS award of one grant does not obligate the Atlanta Bar Association s LRIS to make any additional awards to the grantee in subsequent years. 7. The grantee agrees to acknowledge the Atlanta Bar Association s LRIS as a grantor in its written materials and internet websites. Grantee further agrees to furnish the Atlanta Bar Association s LRIS with copies of all such materials upon publication.
