Customer Scenario
C&D Technologies, Inc. Founded in 1906 by Frank Carlile and Leon Doughty Producer of lead-acid storage batteries for standby power applications Products are used in the following markets: Telecommunications (central office and wireless providers) Uninterruptible power systems
C&D Technologies, Inc Utility switchgear centers Cable television equipment Manufacturing facilities in the United States, Mexico and China Attica, Indiana Milwaukee, Wisconsin Reynosa, Mexico Shanghai, China
C&D Customer Order Transfer System C&D acquired the Reynosa manufacturing facility in 2005 from Matsushita (Panasonic) As a maquila, all finished goods must be first shipped to a US location under C&D s control Typically, this is a logistics partner contracted to act as the first destination
C&D Customer Order Transfer System The challenge was to create a system tightly integrated to the Infor XA (formerly MAPICS) ERP system to facilitate shipment actions by non-employee occasional users Only one developer at C&D had any experience with CA 2E The decision was made to develop a transfer system to account for inventory from time of shipment from Mexico up through final acceptance by a common carrier
C&D Customer Order Transfer System Inventory is aggregated on a manifest, listing the following data; Item being shipped Quantity being shipped Container counts and total weight Customer name and C&D order number This data represents 90+% of the required data for a shipment
C&D Customer Order Transfer System The only information required from the logistics partner is carrier identity and date of shipment Inventory is transferred to a virtual warehouse representing the transportation mode from Mexico to McAllen, Texas and is then transferred again into a warehouse defined in the Infor XA ERP system
C&D Customer Order Transfer System When the logistics partner adds carrier details and initiates shipment, ERP shipping records are generated and the shipment invoices that night CA 2E was a good fit because the Infor order processing module in Infor XA is also a 2E generated process consistent look and feel
C&D Customer Order Tracking System Some statistics: Approximately 75 2E generated programs 10 Execute User Program objects (RPGLE and CL) Integration to Infor XA: Customer Order Management (COM) Intersite Logistics (ISL) Integration to ACOM EZDocs 400 for plain paper printing functions: Manifest documents Bills of lading documents
C&D Customer Order Transfer System Developed solely by one individual Approximate development time 6-8 man-months over a period of 2 years Processes an average of 5-10 shipments a day Logistics partner users require no knowledge of the Infor XA ERP system and have no direct access to any ERP system screens or functions
