IHDP is pleased to release its 2011 Annual Report, featuring editorials by its newest Scientific Committee members, Professors Ruth Oniang'o and Dan Ariely, and highlighting some of the current challenges and opportunities of human dimensions research on global environmental change. Compiled in a shorter, more concise format, this 2011 report has been designed to offer its readers an overview of the programme and its projects, and provide a comprehensive update on IHDP's latest activities and progress. Download the report directly at the IHDP website. Special issue of the journal Earth System Dynamics on Land Use impacts still welcomes GLP contributions. The special issue Impacts of Land-Uses and Land-Cover Changes (LULCC) on the functioning of the Earth System is part of the IGBP synthesis activities on this topic. The special issue aims to provide an overview of Land use and land cover change as a central topic in global change research. It is a high priority to improve the fundamental understanding of LULCC interactions with human, bio-geochemical, and bio-geophysical dynamics, and of LULCC impacts on the regional and planetary climate system, as well as on the functioning of our socio-economic system. This special issue aims to synthesize existing research, new findings, and to provide a roadmap for future research. Deadline for submissions: November 1st, 2012. More information here, or

On III Latinamerican Congress of Anthropology (ALA), 5-9 de November 2012, Santiago de Chile and Temuco, Chile. Organized by Universidad de Chile, Universidad Católica de Temuco, Universidad Academia de Humanismo Cristiano, Universidad Arcis, Universidad Alberto Hurtado y Universidad Austral de Chile. This symposium suggests the opportunity to review critical and creatively different approaches about practices and representations of ethnicity, culture, biodiversity, conservation and protected areas in Latinamerica. And to review several types of conflicts related with the ideas of conservation, management and sustainability, in which some people, land uses and properties, are considered as "threats" among to "natures" and an intervention object.
