JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Teaches and evaluates in accordance with applicable standards & philosophies of the Canadian Yachting Association and Alberta Sailing Association. Actively, enthusiastically and appropriately participates in lessons Uses a variety of techniques to motivate students and make lessons fun Modifies instructional approach depending on the level / age / ability of students, the size of the class, and the location Instructor spends the majority/appropriate amount of time of each class on the water actively teaching based on the requirements of the CYA Has good general sailing knowledge and can answer questions beyond the specific standard Keeps logbook with daily observations and participates in discussions about student progress. Consistently applies skills and knowledge with proficiency to complete required job duties and tasks (Focus is on instructional skills and administrative ability.) Overall for Job Skills & Knowledge Uses correct terminology Can demonstrate sailing skills to the level being taught Able to recognize and analyze groups and individuals abilities Prepares and uses long and short term lesson plans (keeps them available on site) Ensures effective use of class time Gives clear and precise instructions to students Gives positive and motivating feedback Adheres to specific practices of GSS (ie. Modification of CYA standards, Pirates Day, Mc-D Day, Games) Has knowledge of and can apply relevant policies and standard operating procedures to complete required tasks (e.g. Maintenance, spring/fall program process, daily operations, radio use, boat patrol, etc.) Enthusiastically carries out teaching in accordance with standards, guidelines and GSS specific procedures
