Course Title Student Services Classroom Management Courses Teachscape: Online Classroom Management 7 Credit Hours Audience: Teachers with 0-3 yrs experience, Teachers in need of assistance, struggling teachers, Para Professionals, Administrators An online course designed to guide the participant through skills and strategies associated with research-based applications. Participants will learn about building an effective classroom management system. Participants will progress through five modules, relating to opening day, rules, and consequences, room arrangement, and culminating in the development of a research-based implementation plan. Building Better Relationships: Necessary Nine 7 Audience: Teachers with 0-3 yrs experience, Teachers in need of assistance, struggling teachers, Para Professionals, Administrators This course is designed to provide participants with nine foundational components of classroom management and relationship building strategies. Each of the nine components is built from the platform of quality instruction. The foundational components taught are environment, attitude, with-it-ness, organization, rules, procedures, transitions, collaboration and redirection of behaviors. Building Better Relationships: Intermediate 14 Audience: Teachers with 3-5 yrs experience, Para Professionals, Administrators A course is designed to enhance the skills and strategies of teachers in classroom, in the areas of understanding relationships, proactive classroom strategies, positive student support, and problem solving for low level classroom behavior. Research and best practices that have been collected from Boys Town, Capturing Kids Hearts, Eric Jenson, Randy Sprick, Harry Wong and Fred Jones. PBIS Level 1 Overview/Review 7/14 Audience: Campus-based PBIS Leadership Team members Designed to inform/review the over-arching philosophy for the school wide system, the rationale of active supervision, key components of classroom management, data-based decision making, the implementation/reinforcement of the school matrix/motto, along with exchanging ideas and tools from other campuses. PBIS Level 2 Overview/Review 7/14 Audience: Campus-based PBIS Leadership Team members pg. 1
Designed to inform/review members of campus team on individual student research-based behavior systems to assist in reshaping student behavior. Campus teams will learn how to match behavior interventions with the student need, and focus upon systems which support the behavioral change. The Four Relationships 2 The Four Relationships are based around the work of Eric Jenson, providing teachers the tools and strategies to assist students in building relationships in four key areas of academics and behavior. Participants will learn strategies to build relationships in the area of student to teacher, student to student, student to curriculum and student to self. Classroom Management 101 2 The course provides a how to guide to the basics of how to manage a classroom, such as how to prepare for the first day of school, how to teach what you expect, how to identify what procedures need to be taught and when. Positive Praise 5:1 2 This course is designed to assist the classroom teacher/paraprofessional increase the use of positive praise within the classroom setting in order to increase student performance and accountability in reference to behavior and academics. Examining Adult Behaviors 2 Providing teachers with tools for interacting and communicating with students, colleagues, and parents, centering on the quality components of communication, which include, listening, body language, voice tone, facial expression, along with understanding the message. Why Do They Do That? 2 Understanding the goals of student behavior will help turn the reactive practices into proactive strategies to decrease misbehaviors in the classroom. This course will offer specific strategies for dealing with difficult behaviors. Getting What You Want 2 This course is designed to assist educators understand and build techniques and strategies to increase student participation and involvement in the classroom. Educators will focus on three main areas of management/instruction identifying, clarifying and emphasizing (procedures, directions, and instruction). Giving Correction Effectively 2 pg. 2
This course will teach participants to give effective corrective feedback while defusing argumentative, disrespectful comments from students. Defusing Student Aggression 2 This course is designed to teach participants nine strategies to diffuse student aggression before it escalates. Participants will learn strategies and vocabulary to assist in de-escalating students when they are anxious, frustrated or upset. Keep em Thinking on Their Toes: Part I 2 This interactive course assists the classroom teacher find ways to involve students in the learning process by utilizing brain based learning techniques. Keep em Thinking on Their Toes: Part II 2 This course is designed to explore brain based activities to keep students actively involved in the classroom. Educators will focus on integrating movement into lessons, discover ways to use games in instruction, and to decrease discipline issues. Motivating Reluctant Learners 2 This course examines factors that impact student motivation, such as attitude and perceived ability. Participants will consider the various types of motivation; strategies and interventions designed to increase both are provided. Getting 110% Effort 2 A course designed to assist in building understanding of student behavior, and to strengthen management techniques which will increase student participation and involvement during instruction. Fred Jones: Tools for Teaching Video Series 8 A video series course presented by Dr. Fred Jones, a clinical psychologist is designed to guide participants through various strategies/techniques in creating independent learners in the classroom, providing strategies for setting limits to reduce disruptions, producing responsible behavior, and turning problem behavior around. Succeeding with Difficult Noncompliant Students 2 Explores the necessities for how to help difficult students succeed in the classroom. These include: The basics of providing a warm caring environment, strategies to meet the basic needs of your student/s, strategies for preventing pg. 3
discipline problems, intervention strategies for dealing with misbehavior, develop an understanding of conflict and how to resolve it. CHAMPs Video Series 7 In this video series, Dr. Randy Sprick shares his strategies for increasing student learning and participation through motivating instruction, a variety of motivational systems, assisting educators understand why misbehaviors occur and correction procedures to address the misbehavior. Dr. Sprick has spent several years in the field of education and provides research-based applications. Mission impossible: Making Teamwork Work 2 This interactive course uses a rubric/organizer as a model to manage teamwork. Educators will explore work in teams to produce projects that explore the functions of behavior. The Do s and Don ts of Contracting 2 Participants will learn the basics of developing behavior contracts with their students. This course will address with which students to use contracts, how to determine if it is time to start a contract, what type of contract is best for each student, how long to use the contract and finally, how to begin fading the contract. Social Skills 101 2 Participants will learn easy ways to incorporate social skills instruction into their daily academic lessons. In addition, participants will learn ways to reinforce students for using proper social skills in the classroom, hallways, large group, recess and cafeteria. How May I Serve You? Quality Customer Service 2 Participants will learn the importance of providing quality customer service when interacting with students, coworkers, parents, administrators and community members. Bullying Awareness Module 1 (Physical) Audience: Teachers, Administrators, Para Professionals 20 minutes This course is designed to build awareness and provide strategies for educators to address the issue of physical bullying. Review of the Student Code of Conduct definition of bullying, and prevention strategies to guide educators in providing support for students. Bullying Awareness Module 2 (Verbal) Audience: Teachers, Administrators, Para Professionals 20 minutes pg. 4
